What a difference your address makes (Insurance)

Still wondering which car will be my next I thought I would do a little experiment. I did a couple of "Go Compare" quotes for an S4 avant which is still very much on my list.

The only difference in the quotes was the address.

Address 1 - My house in Maidenhead (Berkshire)

£885.35

Address 2 - My parents house in Bourne End (Buckinghamshire)

£328.52

By moving 5 miles up the road (Parents to my place) I have become £556.83 more of a risk.

Clearly i have not become more of a risk, just the area I live in is I guess.

Very frustrating and nothing I can do I know, but that is a big difference.

Aye, postcode lottery makes a difference in many ways.

Job title can also make a fair difference as well - although Pete tells me Police isn't the one way ticket to cheap insurance I always thought it was!

Definitely - moving from Culloden to Culbokie nearly halved my premium.

Did make me wonder if the insurers had records that stretched a long way back as far as local violence and deaths were concerned wink

I moved 2 years ago. Not even a 1/4 mile between houses. I didn't even hire a van, anything that wouldn't fit in the coupe ( beds, wardrobe, sofa etc) just got carried down the road and round the corner. Yet my insurance went up nearly 30% ,
"It's a higher risk area" I was told.
Took me half hour of arguing but I got them to waive the rise in the end.
That convinced me, they just suck a number out their thumb .

When I relocated from Merseyside to Ayrshire 7 years ago, I had at the time a Alfa 166 V6 Super Lusso, my insurance was circa £1400 and had been recently renewed, when relocated got a £1100 credit back onto the debit card as paid annually.

Yup I moved recently around 10 minutes from my previous address, £200 more expensive, not impressed at all. But hey.
