Captcha Rant- I’m not an effing Robot!

Just filled out a UK Mail/DHL form and had to do that bloody Captcha thing loads of times - page after page - and repeated because the form didn’t work properly.

Surely there’s an easier way to confirm I’m not a robot! Loads of sites seem to use Captcha. Worse is how Americanised it is: “crosswalks”? WTF and buses that don’t look like buses etc

Curious thing about captcha - it's being used to train AIs to recognise things.

Originally, you will recall, it asked you to spell a word visible in a photo - a road sign or house number or something - and that was being used to train optical character recognition systems. The profit from that was used to fund an online language teaching program.

It’s as if antibiotics are being used to develop better bacteria...
