In 2019 as we approached madeira we were advised that conditions were blustery and that we may need to divert to Porto Santo. The BA guys went in, it was a very odd angle, but they planted it on the first attempt.

In the olden days before social media and sensational news reporting and daft names, we had WEATHER.
In the weather, we wrapped up, set off a bit earlier, drove sensibly and still went to work.

We did this destination perhaps a year earlier, and I had heard they only used the best pilots.

I made the mistake then of watching many landing attempts on YouTube....

Yes this. In Scotland we have a saying, no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing.
