What tyres?

It's about time to replace my front tyres as they are getting quite low, so I have been looking about at what to get.

Normally I would go for another set of Toyo, but I think I've got the T1-R and not the newer T1-S. Camskill doesn't do the Toyo's any more and other places online seem to charge more.

So, I've been having a look about and it looks like it will be either Yokohama PA01 Parada Spec 2 or the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta but didn't know if anyone has tried either and what their thoughts were on this?

Ill be honest, I haven't tried either but 2 of my mates had the yoko parada and both of them said they were awful in the wet. One was on a r33 skyline and the other on astra vxr.
Only ever hear great news about the Vreds, very popular on the M3 forum too.

Google tyre reviews that should help and give you plenty of reviews and scores etc.

I've heard the same with the parades but I've been on a set and they were ok in the wet, not the best but still not the worst and in the dry I found they were better than the avon zz3's and a set of F1's

Looks like the Vreds will be the one to go for and also £3 cheaper than the Yoko's

I have eagle f1s assymetric 2 on the front and Pirelli p6000 on the back.

Since fitting the eagles I have had the rear end step out several times on round abouts. The front will just not loose grip. Under heavy braking the rear also tries to lock up but the front just digs in and feels like its going to tear the road up with it!

P6000 are known as ditch finders mate and feel like there made of plastic

Yes I have read that. Been on the car since I bought it. May put them on the front to speed up the wear so I can invest in some more f1s

I run the TOYO T1 S on my van (VW T4) and have never even had them squeal. Those that know me will remember how I drive to.

On topic- continental sport contacts are the best tyre I've had on the coupe.

Yoko parada are the best looking tyre but they are suspect in the wet, great in the dry and they are a good price, I'm going for them on my coupe, t1r's didn't impress me at all.

Agree on the conti. Best tyre I ever had generally really. Conti sport contact 5.

Although next in the spring ill be going Michelin pilot super sport all round, meant to be the best road tyre out at the moment!

I have recently changed from Toyo T1R's on the front to Michelin Pilot Sport 3's, and the difference is night and day. Big improvement in grip, and also the ride became nicer, and not soo crashy.

Although I probably would have gone for the Vredesteins if they had them in my size.

I've got a set of the new F1's on my Saab - still very grippy in the wet as they always used to be, but the sidewalls are VERY soft - I've got them all with 2.5bar in them otherwise they feel very squidgy. Not sure I would put them on a proper performance car, but they are perfect for quiet cruising on the motorway in the pouring rain.

I was running 235.45.17 Michelin Pilot Sport's on my mr2 sw20 and wow talk about fantastic grip in the wet and dry. These would be my first choice for tyres followed by conti sport contact.

Not sure what load rating you need on the coupe's but I had Kumho V70A on my Saab and they were incredible! They were 90 load rating though and my Saab needed 94 minimum so they didn't last long until both sidewalls punctured.....still! They gave fantastic grip, just leagues ahead of anything I've tried before! Mine were k21 compound which is soft. These below are k60 (medium)

I replaced these with Rainsport 3, again give superb grip in the dry but wet grip is something else! Tyre wall feels soft though but they give tons & tons of grip

Also had Toyo R1R before but prefer the RS3 as R1R's can be a bit scary in the wet...

Yes the side walls are very soft. Was quite shocked when they arrived.

With 2 bar in the them the car used to wobble a bit when you closed the door!

Vred's have been ordered, should turn up tomorrow and will try and get them fitted this weekend. Will see how it fairs up over the next couple of (wet!) months.

I've seen 'Michelin pilot super sports' mentioned on the forum a few times. Are these the same as 'Pilot Sport 3's like in this link??

Thanks for that, my googling skills were severely lacking the other evening! Looks like Pilot Super Sports are hard to come by in the size I need. So I think I'll stick to what I know, either Toyo Proxies T1Rs or Falken 452s.

I used 452's on my RX8 which were great, but the 453's that replaced them were better, especially in the wet.

I had 2 Toyo T1Rs fitted to the front at the weekend and as usual they are brilliant. This is the 2nd coupe i've had them fitted too and also had them on my old MK2 MX5 with no issues at all.

They are a huge improvement over my old tyres too, which were embarrasingly low (Goodyear Eagle F1s). No tramlining or vagueness in feel and the ride is MUCH smoother. So overall i don't think there is much between most of these tyres on the road, condition is probably more important that anything!

To be fair to the Goodyears, any new tyres should feel a lot better than the nearly-bald pair they're replacing . I replaced Bridgestone SO2s with Goodyear Eagle F1s and felt exactly the same re. tramlining and ride quality. So agreed, condition counts for a lot.

I'm on random tyres that are bit worn in need replacing soon with the frankly faultless toyo proxes. However it is very nice to feel her move around a bit more in the corners.

I didn't mean to slag off the Goodyear's as they are an awesome tyre, I meant it to read that even the best tyres are useless when worn past a certain point!

Also, I ordered online and had the tyres fitted by Halfords Autocentres. Came in at £158ish for 2 x 215/45/17s! that's cheaper than getting them from Camskill.co.uk and getting my local fitter to fit them!

I concur, stand up OK on the track without being too track focused to the detriment of normal road driving

So, after 2 sessions at Spa last week, I can give a little feedback on the Vred's. First off, it was Vred's on the front and used Toyo T1-R's on the rear. Tyre pressures dropped to 28psi on the front (from 39) and 24psi on the rear (from 32). I was running front camber of -1 with a straight ahead toe.

The front's didn't really squeal at all even after 20 - 25 minutes of abuse, if anything, the rears were causing me the issues, probably due to having less tread. Upon returning to parking up, the rear tyres had a lot of melted rubber whereas the fronts very fine, not one bit of melted rubber, just some light scuffing on the shoulder of the tyre and plenty of tread left.

Realise I'm late to the party here, and what the heck do I know, but...

I've owned loads of cars over the years, BMWs, Saabs, Fords, the odd (dare I say it) Vauxhall, as well as a Mazda MX5, and I've always driven between 15 and 25K miles a year. I (naively) thought it was best to stick to what tyres the manufacturers placed on the cars when they left the factory but I soon learnt.

To date my favourites have got be Goodyears in whatever guise. The best have always been Goodyear Eagle F1s but in the 'V' pattern. They've always stuck like s**t even in the pouring rain, have given the right amount of feel, and haven't tramlined either, be it front or rear wheel drive. My only gripe has been that they gave too much grip on the MX5. They've always lasted longer than most. Would love to try them on a coupe but I can't find any 'V' patterned Eagles for sale that would fit the standard wheel (for when I buy a set to replace my non standard alloys).

And one last point, I don't know about other parts of the UK but I've noticed the Police cars in Yorkshire are shod with Goodyears (whether it be on their BMWs or Vauxhalls) and considering the punishment the vehicles go through they must be worth fitting. Of course, the Police don't use Fiat coupes, so as I said above, what the heck do I know...

Yoko ad08 best ever summer tyre had on my coupe and great trackdays...but not great in wet...Evo mag had them as best dry handling and have to say corner speeds easily up ten mph plus, but not great in the wet so not a winter all rounder that's for sure, but 225's fit nicely on standard wheels and look great!;-), obviously noise rating higher than some others but good wear and one of the best improvements to coupe's handling and great recommendation by john who services my car!
I normally go over to winter tyres, cheapest on old set of wheels does the job for winter apart from useless bolts snapping off of course!;-)
