Tyre size to wheel size question

Tyre size to wheel size question - 08/02/2008 17:53

Anyone know if you can get 205(x35x17) AND 225(x35x17) tyres to fit 17x7.5" wheels? I think 225's will definitely fit.

Tinternet searches hint at it but just refuse to play ball and confirm.

A tyre can be made to fit. Alaina runs 165/50 on 7" wide wheels. It doesnt help handling but looks good

I reckon they would both fit.

Why do you want to go 35 profile?

with a v.low profile, they may just fit but look crap or even be dangerous 205*2.54==6.35inches to fit on 7.5inch rims? I'd have thought no...

For 17x7.5 I would say 205x40 or 215x40. 225 will fit but the wall will be crushed causing the tyre to bulge.

Coupe 17": 215/40-17 (a tad small) or 235/40-17 (a tad big).

I didn't think they would fit.

It's for the Mister 2.

It currently has 15x6 with 185x50x15 tyres and 15x6.5 with 205x50x15 tyres. As you can guess, those size wheels look sh!t.

I'm sure buying two different sizes of wheels is going to cost far more than the same size all round, but I want to keep the same ratios between front and rear so I don't bugger the handling (which is well sweet). OZ Ultra Leggeras only come 17x7.5 no 17x7's I think. \:\( Also low 35 profile so I get a similar tyre circumference and don't lose out on acceleration.

215/40R17, 215/35R17, 225/35R17 are all available. 235 anything is too wide for a 7.5" rim unless it is 45 profile strictly speaking. 195/45R17 is also sometimes used on 7.5" rims although that isn't ideal

"OZ Ultra Leggeras" 7 or 7.5 or 8 x 17
I'm looking at the very same wheels and the guy at the shop said 205x40 or 215x45

They are doing a deal on these wheels with Toyo tyres here:
http://www.potn.co.uk/p1019152.htm or Halfords do them for £829

I really want the Super Leggeras III but 18" won't fit on my car.

Where did you get that info from John?

If I got some 17x7.5 and the 'recommended' tyre was a 205x40, then do you reckon I should be able to get 195x35 and 215x35 tyres to fit? I need to keep that 20mm width ratio between front and rear I reckon, but just without a mixed wheel size that will cost a bomb (and certainly not Halfrauds then!).

A profile of 40mm is too big unless I go down to 16".

just know what tyres you can and can't get. 195/35 is not a normal tyre size - 195/40R17 is the smallest normal size. By normal I mean that more than one manufacturer makes. I think you should find out what radius people normally fit because your car will drive like crap on too thin walled tyres. Not only that but generally the cost of tyres goes up a LOT with lower profile. I'm sure on an MR2 you can fit bigger than that. It will be the height ratio that is more important than the width ratio on a RWD car.

Really, ah well, how do you know I'm not thinking of future wheels? \:P

tbh, it's just the 'tuning' section and it's pretty general but whatever. Someone might want to know about this for a Coop.
