Rwd coupe

Anyone know if this has been done yet,i only own a coupe for its looks, but how nice would it be if it was rear drive and fun to drive as well as to look at.
Yes i know about 4wd options that can be done and am thinking that over, but how hard would rear drive be

You're going to have to turn the engine 90 degree's for a start, then you will have to change the rear subframe to be able to house / mount a rear diff, maybe extend the exhaust tunnel out to put a propshaft down it as well as the exhaust, all nice easy jobs then

If your Coupe isn't fun to drive, you're driving it wrong

Whilst I accept that RWD is definitely better than FWD, a well set up FWD chassis can be just as entertaining (assuming you don't want to go drifting )

My FWD handling time at TOTB would have put me in the top ten of the RWD class

In answer to your question "how hard would RWD be?" - extremely hard, extremely expensive and as far as I'm concerned, extremely pointless. Spend some money on the handling or go and buy a good looking RWD car. You could probably buy a decent 350Z for less money than it would cost you to convert a Coupe. Alternatively, if you still want the Italian style, get a Maserati 3200GT - available for less than £15k now.

Could you not just do a 4wd conversion and not bother with the front driveshafts?

All good points, its just i am old school, i grew up drifting MK2 escorts and 2.8 capris, and since i sold my alfa 75 i have been realy missing rear drive.

Well - there is one guy here in Sweden who mixes his old Coupe with a heavily tuned Mazda Cosmo wankel and a BMW rear suspension.
But it wont look "Fiat-factory"...

as i seen he had first bmw 4,4 v8 with supercharger, but then switched for the wankel twinturbo engine (i suppose because of lack of space with all the pipework )

IS THERE A 4WD 20VT PROJECT HERE ON THE FORUM? i think that it shouldnt be expensive.. cheaper that stage2 all together. just a bit of cutting in the front and back and swap a Lancia Dedra integrale.

i was doing it to my punto 20vt, lol its a fair bit of work not just abit of cutting here and there

at the end of the day mate, i have all the drawings, messurements and step by step guide etc to do it... if the puntos to mental front wheel drive i will be putting her 4 wheel drive, then will see who`ll be laff

Utilising the 4wd running hear would be the best way and various places do transfer box locking kits.
Maybe the Alfa 33 running gear would offer an advantage.

I will always stand by the fact Rwd or 4wd isn't needed.
The design if the forward slung cast iron block makes the coupe very agile.

I have to agree with JBT - other than in a drifting competition, or a race around a tight track in the wet, my Coupe would hold its own against anything of similar power and weight. I've often out-cornered supposedly superior machinery, including an M3 in the pouring rain.

I agree that the standard Coupe is an understeery thing, but with some sensible mods, it can be made to corner spectacularly well, without turning into a teeth-rattling track monster.

The 14th Sept would be nice.

In all honesty you'd have to love the coupe shape A LOT to go though all that.
Add to that a lot of spare time and/or a lot of spare cash.

And at that point an old mx5 or elise can start looking quite beautiful.
