22mm or 24 mm ARB ? - 08/09/2008 20:39

Hi guys looking to buy a rear arb from balance motorsport

http://www.balancemotorsport.co.uk/products.asp?recnumber=59235

i know a load of you bought these from the group buy

couple of questions some of you went for the 22mm bar some went for a 24mm,not sure which one to get.

one or 2 of you said the rear can be twitchy with the 24mm,has anyone had both 22mm and a 24mm fitted?

my current handling mods are koni ssk kit, strut brace.

any advice on which size bar appreciated.

Speaking from my testing of bars on Peugeot 205s I'd go for the smaller of the two bars. The last thing you want is a car that will lift off oversteer at any opportunity by going too stiff at the rear.

just go 24mm. i run a 23mm bar at the moment and still get tons of understeer at the limit.

anyway a bit of lift-off oversteer is a good thing. \:\)

22mm is plenty. With decent suspension the car is solid as a rock at the back on the 22mm.

If you are getting understeer then it's not because the bar is not thick enough - you need to look at how the front end is setup, ie. caster and camber etc.

ok guys thanks for the advice - 22mm it is

has anyone changed this off axle stands or is it a job you really need the height to get at comfortably ?

You have to drop the petrol tank and the brackets can be an absolute bast*rd to get undone - its possible with a great deal of swearing. I think its a job for a specialist personally.

Much easier on a lift to be honest, you need to drop the fuel tank to get the bar in so doing it on stands might be a little tight for access ?

-1.5 deg camber, 1mm toe out. that's a fairly aggressive front config, i think. caster's not adjustable afaik.

I did it on axle stands fine and although I was fairly happy with what I was doing its wasn't my favourite job. Dropping the front subframe was worse for the front ARB.

If you do it yourself make sure you inplug the power cables from you fuel pump/fuel gauge when you drop the tank though, otherwise they will pull the cables out \:\( \:D

correct - unless you change the top mount.

To adjust the camber you either have to slot the dampers or use a camber bolt.

You only need to undo the one bolt at the front of the tank and lower it a little bit, it doesn't need to come out completely.
