Suspension upgrade & refresh - suggestions welcome - 07/05/2009 13:53
I am looking to overhaul my suspension and add a few upgrades so anyone got some suggestions over and above whats below?
I currently have;
Eibach springs & Bilstien shocks (done 45k+)
Sparco strut brace
everything else standard
So up front I am looking at;
Replace wishbones and add polybushes (got the polybushes)
Replace top mount & bearings
Replace track rod ends
Replace drop links
Replace pinch bolts
Replace front ARB bushes
Camber bolts (possibly fit these at a later date)
and at the back;
Whiteline 22mm ARB
Rear radius arm bearings? dunno if its needed
Solid bushes if I can get hold of a set
Any comments/suggestions?

Sounds reasonable to me and you have every base covered. The rear arm bearings are probably worth doing, as it will be a fit once and forget for another 100,000 miles or so. If you did get solid bushes at the back, i'd fit them at the same time as the whiteline rear anti roll bar and arm bearings, by dropping the subframe off, it makes life a whole much easier!

A lower brace is only really going to be any use if the rest of your suspension is uprated.
There's so much give in the standard kit that you wouldn't feel any difference.

I fitted the OMP Alfa 155 lower brace and did notice a more solid front, even more than with the upper brace I think.
Now it's off for modding cause it was so low.

The package writing stated 155 but I suppose it's been lying round for a while.. It's the same for 156.

do you get alot of grounding out over speed bumps and stuff with the 156 lower brace as thats what has put me off getting one.

Depends how low your coupe is, mine had the bar pulled off and a wishbone bolt stripped on a farm track quality road. My fault for trying to drive down it and the girlfriends fault for her parents living at the end of the road.

Haha.. I'd say it's all your girlfriends fault then!
Yes it's very low as std, I cut it ca 10mm but then the downpipe touched it on throttle. Now it's moving 40mm forward once I get hold of a welder.

Quick thread resurrection here rather than starting a spazzy new one.
I reckon the speed bumps round Edinburgh are taking their toll on my suspension, and I'd like to do a refresh.
From the incomplete service history I do have, there's a new spring in there and some dampers, but it was some time ago so I reckon a full refresh is in order.
If anyone would like to furnish me with figures as to how much I'm looking at it would be much appreciated, and is it much more wedge to get some Koni springs/dampers slapped on than a standard set up?
Not keen on anything uber hard like a bilstein/eibach combo as the speed bumps and craters on the roads round here will knock my teeth out.
I'm a total nugget when it comes to wielding spanners, so realistic pro prices please gents.
Ta.

I live in the wilds as well (well near knockhil) eibach/bilstein combo is ok (most of the time). I have a coupe friendly garage in falkland if you get stuck.#

Re: Suspension upgrade & refresh - suggestions welcome - 01/07/2009 21:03
I think the suspension was approximately £380 (parts only) althought I fitted front and rear roll bars, wishbones, droplinks and strut tops etc at the same time (they were extra), Fitting I think wasn't too bad. I think Alan charges £30+vat per hour and doesn't muck around with getting on with the job, If you know what I mean. You could give me a call tomorrow if you want 07947523716

I think the konis are harder then the billys,so billys with std springs would be your best bet!
