Just out of interest I stripped your old engine and the rings all collapsed. Heavy scoring to all cylinders too. The rings were stuck solid in 2 of the pistons.
That was the reason for the crankcase compression and the smoking on lift off.
Be pleased to know the crank and shells were fine although number 5 main looks like it has spun or about too.

Porkcious, sounds like you are going to get a well sorted machine. Barbz is of the opinion that your car will have given up smoking . Spent a day with him recently and got the low-down on your new lump.
