Coops Coupe ( Restoration thread ) - 06/03/2013 17:44
This is going to be a picture heavy thread to see if I can save a £350.00 20 Valve turbo on a 98 plate. I purchased it undecided as to what I was going to do with it, but I am going to try and save it. Just to make it clear I am no mechanic and while I appreciate the work, and envy the cars of these perfect restorations I have neither the skill, time or money to accomplish these amazing results. I am going to try and end up with a mechanically sound coupe that looks nice and makes me happy. Cheers for looking and for any information and help provided.

Got the shock apart,
Surprisingly the shock top mount was in ok condition, corrosion on the plate but the rubbers and bearings were fine. Cleaned and greased and a bit of future rust prevention
and all should be ok........

The hub was an incredible git.
The C clip was fused in.. 3 broken C-clip pliers, 1 knackered screw driver, 1 x knackered wrist, and 1 x acetylene torch later it eventually gave. By this point I had hammered all the bearing inner out and only had the middle race lip to give purchase to push the outer out. Had to drill the abs sensor screw out.
Also a couple of pics of lightly polished brake pistons.

Did a little more today,
I was trying to work out how I was going to fix the bumper and oil cooler mount in situ, but realised it would be easier if i took it off.. Don't think it's going to be back on the road this summer..
Can anybody help me with some pics of how the oil cooler should be mounted as mine only had the top two rubber grommets left which gave it a lot of movement and it was smashing into it's mount.
Cheers

Actually put something back together.
The corrosion on the calipers was pretty bad.
A little bit worse and I think that would have been it for them..
New seals and runners and a little paint and
