Should have done the other thread first I suppose, but its up now, with the first stage of what I have been doing. Very labour intensive, getting all these pictures on, Ill have to do it in stages?

I am not sure I should call my thread a restoration after looking at your pics.. Maybe more an intensive clean thread!

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 30/03/2013 21:05

Looking at the pics, it reminds me of a car that's been burnt completely to the ground. Did you need to strip it down quite as much as that?

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 30/03/2013 21:38

I wanted a total colour change, and the place I took the bodyshell to, always media blast the shells before spraying them, as they have no idea of what has gone-on in the past, with damage etc.So that's what they done and it did show-up prevoius damage to the shell.

Surely this needs to be featured in one of the Italian Car or Classic magazines??

Amazing stuff! This is going to be a brand new coupe lick

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 10/04/2013 12:23

The Stilo Abarth turbo project, I was a bit naive when I first took this one on! Didn't think it would have been such hard work to do. Reversed it all back to standard and still driving it, but have still got all the components to have another go one day!!

Just found your ‘restoration’ thread. Wow! What can I say? This will genuinely be better than a brand new car straight from the factory. I just wish I had the knowledge, workshop facilities, tools, time, money and patience to undertake such a project! Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming. laugh

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 27/04/2013 17:57

WoW! totally awesome. I really think you should put either all black Fiat style recaro's(original option) or have a set of recaro's re-trimmed in either tan or red.

I see you have a plus side skirts being prepped are you going to do a Duffy and have them fitted with stainless fixing points along the sills?

I'm off to have a look at your Stilo thread now =)...can anyone link me to it please?

Great work!

Where did you find all new parts? For example I can't find a new expansion tank tongue
Posted By: Dax

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 06/06/2013 09:49

I just looked the part numbers up on eper, went to my local Fiat dealership, and ordered them. Not all the parts I wanted were still available, but got most of what I wanted, plus they gave me a 20% discount. I also just kept searching the Internet with part numbers, you would be surprised at what you can find other than on eBay!

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 30/06/2013 21:01

Hi

It is new, and bought from my local Fiat dealership, product code as follows:

46464811 - LINING » Availability - Product orderable » GBPPrice including taxes 105.14 GBP

Price may have changed, plus I'm assuming its still available from Fiat's? I bought mine over a year or so ago!

I will spray both this sound deadening, the under bonnet and boot one with 'Scotchgard' clear soft fabric protector, although be it, don't think I will be taking it out in the rain and or do enough miles for it to become grimy, like all the ones i've seen, when trying to get a good secondhand one.

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 09/07/2013 08:37

Won't post any pictures at the moment, as it does not look much different from the last ones. However, have been working away still on the wiring etc. to the engine bay and have finally sorted it all out, with all the clips etc. just got to sort out one final brake pipe clip on the near side inner wing, and get a few brake pipes prepared and re-coated in black plastic, as all the new brake pipes I aquired are in black and not grey as was fitted originally.

laugh Duffy was just fluffing around the edges.

I haven`t seen the fuel line protection before, I wondered if it was for a specific market.
Back in the day I found your project a great source of inspiration, glad to see it again. thumb

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 16/08/2018 18:50

I don’t know if the fuel line protection was for a specific market, i think It was just an item that I saw on eper, that I ordered!. I must admit, it has been a long time since I posted anything on this vehicle, like most complete restorations, unless you have a bucket load of money, and all the time in the world, they seem to come to a sudden stop. Plus with loads of other stuff going on, which takes priority, get forgotten about. However. Now that I’ve moved to West Sussex, have built a huge garage, just need to get the vehicle down from London, and I can know just plod along finishing it off, I hope😬

Hi Chris

Wow! I thought I was doing a pretty Thorough resto on mine, but not compared to this. I'll start a project thread very soon and the car will be at the NEC in November (God willing).

I see you're now in West Sussex. Not so far from me in the Isle of Wight then. I do hope you'll call in on me if you're ever over. PM me, or see you at the NEC perhaps?

Cheers

Andrew

God, its been a very long time since starting this project, but finally got the car down to it new home, and now have time to finish it off. However, as its been so long, and I cannot find the pictures I took of when I was stripping it, and now got to go through all the parts to see in what order I need to replace them! Still have a lot more time on my hands now, so going to get it finished.

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 01/12/2019 23:12

I remember following this high-quality resto a while back, but had forgotten you'd chosen white!

The rear bumper has holes along the top - are you fitting parking sensors?
Posted By: Dax

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 06/12/2019 22:27

The rear bumper does indeed have holes for parking sensors, but getting them filled in, as I've got one that just has a metal strip that runs along the inside of the bumper, so not visible.

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 06/12/2019 22:33

You're lucky to have one of these strips, I thought I'd bought pretty well the last one a few years ago! Mind you it was OE...

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 06/12/2019 23:26

Couldn’t find anywhere that done the OE version, so got this one:

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 07/12/2019 08:08

When my mate and I fitted the OE one we made the mistake of feeding the connecting cables directly through the rear panel - when Joe at FCSS had the bumper off subsequently he sensibly cut them and fitted connectors for ease of access in future

Re: Dax's Year 2K 20VT6 Restoration Descussion Thread - 17/12/2019 10:08

Could someone inform me as to how you remove the cylinder lock barrel out of the glove compartment latch. I can see two pins either side that move, but tried moving them, but can’t get the barrel out. Also, if anyone could send me some pictures of how all the wiring sits under the fuse board, how its clipped and how its run, as I’ve lost all my detailed pictures of when i stripped the vehicle, and with the passage of time, am struggling to see how it all goes.

Cheers in advance
