Nice system mate. I like the slashcut exit pipe.

did you use special paint for the rocker cover? Heat resistant motip or something?
Posted By: kj16v

Re: kj16v Home-build 16VT hybrid turbo comments - 26/07/2009 17:03

Cheers. The red rocker cover is Hammerite spray paint, and the spark plug cover is ordinary spray paint and lacquer.

I read the thread and am mightily impressed by your DIY, welding, tuning, turbo building handiwork and low cost solutions thumb

How did you go about mapping it yourself?
Ive studied electronics in college and have been doing my own car and electrics repairs for a while but have never learned much to do with engine mapping or chip tuning so I'm looking for any good info sources and what gear would I need or how would I go about learning this?

Tech Edge 2J1 wideband lambda controller
Moates Ostrich
Batronix Programmer
Home made "det-cans" to listen for pinking (very important!)

Software:
TunerPro RT mapping program
WinLog datalogging program

If you wanna know more, gimme a shout and I'll PM you smile

Hi kj16v,
Well done on the work you've performed on your 16vt, you've created a really interesting project thread.

Where did you get your FMIC pipework and hoses from please?

Cheers,
Julian.

Re: kj16v Home-build 16VT hybrid turbo comments - 01/09/2009 21:17

Thanx. Much appreciated!

The hoses are Gates rubber hoses from Car Builder Solutions ( www.nfauto.co.uk ).

But later on I found I could have bought silicone hoses for the same price from this company: http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Auto-Performance-Silicone-Hoses

The tubing for the pipework came from work for free! But usually I get aluminium tube from ebay.

One question:
Quote:
Fill engine with pure water, and 10W/40 semi synthetic.

I read that as you filled the whole engine (oilways etc..) with water? Or is it just my brain not working at this time?

Just your brain not working. Switch it off then on again!

Fill the oil reservoir with oil, and the coolant reservoir with water!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

The IVECO itself should work well but the orientation of the hose inlets makes it difficult to fit ( they point slightly backwards) - Well, actually I found it to be quite convenient on one side but needed modddifying on the other - which led to the end-tank breaking!

The Universal Intercoolers one I have now is almost the same size and is all-metal, with the hose inlets in a more convenient place.

Hi mate, good to hear from you. It's running V. V. strong. perhaps too strong...

for the clutch!

I've done more "tinkering", which I'll add when I have some time spare.

How's the Alfa?

Re: kj16v Home-build 16VT hybrid turbo comments - 11/02/2010 19:56

The Alfa is going well ta.
I still have some problems with it not going into 1st gear when stationary on occasion, but other than that she goes and sounds great.
I have sorted most of the other issues the car came to me with though except for the airbag light.

How many BHP have you got now do you reckon?
