Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 14/07/2010 01:54

lost me in parts but.....

realistically you want a black LE, so do the black LE, even if you manage to make jamies green one your ideal 500bhp monster you will always be wishing it was a black LE!

And you being you that will probably mean buying a black LE and paying to have all the suspension and engine swapped between them.

Totally understand the wheeling and dealing thing though, thats how I'm funding mine in a sense.

bought a job lot of bits from someone who had sold their coop for £150, fitted some bits I wanted and sold my old bits for about a £100, BUT I still have front and rear calipers from the original purchase to refurbish then I can sell mine on for probably about £150, so small profit which covered the small loss I made on changing my interior etc etc

to be honest It's something I'd love to learn, a friend of a friend years ago done fire poi, only seen him a couple of times but totally memerised.

that and the fact my GF would love it! shes a performer and loves alternative type stuff.

Not got any spares that would be of any use to you though, but I do make a great cup of tea while other folk are working! lol

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 14/07/2010 13:22

mate, you sound confusied.com

what car do you want?? The black LE.

you want big power.... your getting a forged engine built.

you have loads of seriously good mods on Jamies old car. Lucky.

what i would do is Pick the coupe you want, (The black LE) Put the FMIC SIP WIDGET and other stuff onto the black LE and wait for the forged engine.

then the stuff your left with sell and re-coupe your money.
swap the parts you need to swap and stop confusing it!!

sorry to say this but it looks like you dont want to spend a penny in this which is cool, im italian i know how to be tight.

but you will have to spend a bit the recover the money in the mountin of parts you have.

i would go for the set up Jamie's old car has, it works well, it worked for him, it handel the power out put fine, just go with it!

then tweak it later in life when you have the bigger issue sorted.

also, to save some money, why not justr try the swapping of parts on your own?

shocks and springs an that stuff is a matter of 5/6 bolts.

there are enough how to guides for you to do this!

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 15/07/2010 00:01

right was all set to go at it saturday put the
pro alloy on
switch suspension
widgets
stereo
fit uprated arb
even put a hybrid on my le
i would have just run it like that untill the forged was ready
then i get the mail from the buyer of jamies car to tell me..its not happening..thats the second one!and an interested paryt has done the same
unfortunately i will have to use that car and sell the le if i dont secure a buyer by the time the engine has been started on so thats where i am at ...
not happy

I do enjoy reading, but this is like looking at War and Peace!

Would it hurt to put in some paragraphs? And less 'story.' This isn't GCSE English you don't need to add filler. Just keep to the bare facts! smile

Come on Rob keep at it mate, sod what anyone says. This is a forum for Fiat Coupe enthusiasts not english teachers. There are loads of people genuinely interested in reading about what you're doing, don't shut us out!

Anyone who finds Robs (or anyone elses) posts hard to read - don't read them. It's your choice, nobody's forcing you to read it so if you don't like it, don't read it. Ffs leave the lad alone and let him say what he's got to say. I for one will be waiting for your next post Rob. smile

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 23/07/2010 12:34

as above, keep posting please Rob.

500 horses seem an unattainable dream for most due to the cost involved, if you manage to do it on a shoestring without compromising the quality of the work it gives the rest of us something to aim for.

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 23/07/2010 14:55

thanks guys i apreciate that ..i just get tired of defending my writing skills (or lack of)
i did try to explain in one link that i have scarring on my brain from an accident in which i suffered two indented skull fractures which left me without the use of one side of my body for a little time and with more lasting effects on memory and other cognative functions and skills

although the brain re routes to some degree, finding new neural pathways, i will still have issues for the rest of my life ..i have gone from having poor speach and broken thinking(gaps in thought processes which would leave me floundering ) to as near normal as i will get now
when i am tired particularly (and i do most of the project posts sat in bed in the early hours) i do not function as well mentally..
it takes me a fair bit more time and effort to write with proper grammer normally, never mind when tired and trying to recap before (and without) falling asleep!

i spend more time than i have to spare on the forum anyway so definately do not have time the next day to go over and punctuate and to be honest i dont have the inclination either..

i started the project as although it is an nigh on impossible task , i think it possible and when i mentioned it in threads a lot said it could not be done..
so i thought the will it wont it factor worth writing it for as well as the myriad wheelings and dealings that i will have to enter into to achieve my objectives.

This particular post is not something i should ever have had to write really and it will be the last time i explain or defend my posts.. i did mention it in one other thread due to once again having people become negative over my writing skills

i do see why not many people bother with posting projects though if it leads to them getting the type of posts i do.
it seems that peoples grammer becomes more important than the issue at hand and lets be honest a lot of people that are practically skilled are not always that good with words and writing ,others just didn't get as good an education or upbringing as most of us lucky sports coupe owners!
to these people it would be upsetting and embarassing to be publically pulled up for a lack of writing ability ..i know i find it annoying and condescending..this is not a test or a school of written english.. if someone is communicating thier issue or contributing thier opinion or practical advice.. as long as they can get thier point across then that should be respected rather than pulled apart or corrected..if it's hard to read then you have a choice whether to continue or not..the contributer may not have the abilities to communicate his point in written form and making them feel slightly foolish or inadequate will just lead to them not using the forum..
it's not the be all and end all so for $£%$^s sake stop pulling people up on thier written skills or lack thereof and if it bothers you or you feel the need to help everybody understand the post punctuate it yourself and repost doing us all a service rather than just moaning.
the great thing about the forum and the reason i still post so much in the knowledge i will likely be pulled again in some way is that people have actually come forward and offered me send them the posts and they will make them more ledgible and repost for me and thank you guys for that

i will recap and continue for you guys

sorry if it seemed a little childish just to remove myself from the project but i felt if it took up time and was just becoming a problem then it was more trouble than it was worth

well with the project at the moment it stands like this
niff is supposed to be coming tomorrow to change over some of the mods from the green to the le... wednesday morning i take the le to jbt where he removes the engine..thursday i go down with the green car on a trailer and bring back the le minus engine...john removes the old engine and fits the le motor to the green puts on a hybrid and gets it up and running whereupon the new owner gets it...
my finances are then
i started with £3500 i got £200 from leon when i traded turbos £30 for the sub yesterday from mabr £3730 minus the le £1500 and the bits i bought with it including 22ml arb and turbo £300 leaves £1930
if it all goes well £800 to jbt for all fitting and removals and £400 for clutch ,gaskets, belts , tensioners and oils etc which will leave £730
add £730 to the £2500 i get for the green and i am back up to £3230 minus the £1400 i paid for jamies in the first place

which leaves me £1830 and just remembered £100 for the cat back pinnin prestatyn has had making £1930
2 x sets of wheels (one new 17" turbo dynamics ultralight spoked in black) a superspool turbo which everytime i sell the buyer backs out..2 strut braces an aquamist and a load more spares to sell

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 23/07/2010 15:06

great news mate!

sounds like you have some stuff to sell on which makes me happy lol

so when are you buying the forged stuff?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 23/07/2010 16:10

i already own the pistons and rods from the group buy but i had them the red water hoses from another group buy and that was it other than the £3500 that was what i started with in my first post..now i own 2 cars loads of spares and money left so its not going too badly...

but and ther is a big but

i have been offered 2100 for the le and although i have only paid 1500 i did tax it for 6 months its still a near £500 profit which woulld allow me much more scope..
as it stands i have the 2 cars and if i do the above i end up with 1930 and the le with supporting mods but i still need to buy a lot of stuff over 700 in belts gaskets tensioners, thermo, waterpump, shells etc then theres the machine shop, the engine builders money the turbo, head mapping..
so i have to pull one hell of a lot in from those spares!

if i sell the le on the other hand i have the £730 that i have left and the 2100 for the car so thats 2830 and a load of spares which is a lot more doable plus i have an extra turbo to sell that was going on jamies car so although i would have loved to keep the le it looks like its going to have to go what a fccuk up i really really like that car..again though it needs paint to make it right and to do it properly £1500 worth at some point in the future so
i have to make an agonising descision quickly as i will have to change johns booking

thanks guys its all good.. kj is cool i understand why he said it,on its own its nothing, he was just the last in a long line over the last few months/threads.. i read his stuff and he has inspired me to do a lot of the bits myself..most don't know i have "issues" shall we say laugh now they do so lets hope they give me a break

back to the car
well niff isn't here doing the swaps
which means a total rethink or a surrender to the green car being "the one"

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 24/07/2010 13:04

What's wrong with the LE to make it only worth 2100 Rob? If Jamies is as tidy as you said I'd be tempted to go with that if I were you.

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 24/07/2010 20:16

the le is great i love the straight blacks it has ripples in a door and a couple dings on the front edge of the bonnet but i was given a door and bonnet with it the engine and interior are fine in fact interior is mint its got coilovers front eibachs rear hids, bravo topmounts, ebv supersprint, arb discs pagid pads ,new wishbones etc etc it just looks low black and mean..even the micheal jackson interior works with the straight blacks..i just love it ..john had it up on the ramps for a look and its solid rust free everywhere..thats why i dont want to part they dont come round that often at that money..its still cheap at 2100

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 20/08/2010 23:15

well chaps a lot has happened in the last few weeks..the main one being cheech is now the owner of the black le ...i sold in the end

i used some of the kitty to buy a car from pistonheads

someone mentioned it on a thread so i took a look..not the most common car around but the stilo arbarth from pistonheads is now sat outside my house

i paid 500 for it and collected yesterday,
to my suprise it was a really tidy full service history car and the owner had bought a brand new ecu recently which was included in the price
i put an add on ebay last night and by the morning i had sold the wings and front bumper for £175 and the doorcard for £35 i expect this to be lucrative as the engine has already been sold , though the final price has yet to be agreed, it will exceed the cost of the car

i bought the car as when i looked on ebay there were none at all being broken

whilst at the garage it was stored at, a chap from an engine and gearbox place who was a friend of the owners turned up got chatting with me and said he had a 20v engine with less than 1k on it which had been removed under warrentee years ago and they bought it in a job lot of engines and boxes from the fiat main dealer

again being in the right place at the right time means my build and whole situation takes a step in an unforseen direction though untill i have agreed terms with the guy thats building it i'll keep it to myself in case it doesn't happen..
as you can see i am likely to add more to my kitty with the breaking of the arbarth so thanks whoever it was put the link up..its the first time i have bought a car specifically to break and i can see its worthwhile if you find the right car

this in turn gave me the idea to sell the le..it was always going to cost me 1500 to have it painted properly and if using the engine in the green car (jamie3s old one) i was going to have to cough up for a clutch and cambelt as well as the engine swaps... so knowing i had more cash to play with and having routed out a black le and a silver one at right money the new motor goes in one of these

i bought eldinhos turbo and exhaust amongst other things then decided to sell them again days later as i would only be chasing everyone elses set up and coming in as an also ran ..so its time for a little more radical an aproach

new car,new aproach and the funds are hopefully going to increase if the stilo bits continues to sell so i can do it right..all will be revealed

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 20/08/2010 23:36

was it the red one i posted up in other cars?

Could of got more for the door card pal. There like rocking horse shot.
over £230 new!

Nice car though,my perfect 20vt conversion.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 21/08/2010 01:14

yes it was so thanks
i haven't yet sold the card only got the 35 offer now i know that i will ask for more ..i agreed 175 on the wings and bumper turns out they are more than 500 new so could have gone more there as well but am a little more aware now
Posted By: coupedummy

Re: project 500 horses on wing and a prayer - 21/08/2010 01:25

£50-£60 would be a good deal for them for the door card. Only un-ripped one i found was £75 plus postage, until i got mine for £25 but he really didnt know what he had.I snapped his arm off as i was searching for six months.

Stilo bits go for loads,do you have the wheels available pal?

Pm me some pics if so.

p.s navigation system should be worth a fair whack.£200+

p.p.s if panoramic roof works £300+ many seize up.
Our stilo has one of the very few that still works

Pm me if you like and i can help price up some spares
