Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 05/04/2011 15:33
just had another look at this... the iphone does not make it easy!!
this is going to be fun when finished!!
so is it a straight bolt in job then?
where are you planning to fit the SMIC?
looking at the front end of the GTV, you could get shot of the A/C and stick a FMIC in there...
your only up the road from me, im in bedford!
next time your working on it give me a shout and i will see if i can pop up to see how your getting and give a hand if i can!
also, what other goodies you getting for it?

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 05/04/2011 18:34
Luckily my gtv came without ac which in my books is a god send, I was going to see about getting it into it's original location but I'd have to relocate my sidelights as they're integrated into the fogs.
Help would be great as I'm struggling to move the engine as I've not got a hoist
I do have a block n tackle which I can use to get it in though.
I'm unsure which fmic to go for as the nose of te gtv is quite slim.
As for goodies, walbro fuel pump, bigger injectors and a new turbo which I'd keep limited to 300bhp till I can afford to forge the motor. But these upgrades will be later within the year as just getting this engine in is costing over a grand by itself. Been told by many that it's pointless and stupid

Been told by many that it's pointless and stupid
They wont say that when it's running!!!
as for FMIC... May be a slim FMIC for the front when you whip the bumper off, see what space you have then work from there!
Yer, happy to help, drop me a pm!

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 05/04/2011 19:55
Just had a look, not much space at all, the bumper is almost against the front crossmember

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 06/04/2011 13:04
Nice project! that little side mount doesn't really look up to the job though, I'd be careful in the summer or your inlet temps are going to be sky high.

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 06/04/2011 16:55
Didn't think it was little tbh, but I dunno what's the optimum size though, the core thickness is about 95mm, I'll have to check height and width mind.
The depth behind my front crossmember is only 54mm and in front I can fit 70mm, but because of the arrow shaped front anything over 300mm wide would show on the top of the bumper even when bonnets closed.
A chap on ao is south Africa cut his front crossmember off and replaced with a tubular steel one placed further forward which gave great depth for a good size intercooler, but I'm not going to go that far.

OK measured the intercooler core is, W300xH200xD96 measured in millimeters
Too small??

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 08/04/2011 19:47
I've been going over the wiring diagrams of both my GTV and the 16VT engine looms, seems that the GTV motronic ECU controls my fuel pump were as the 16VT doesn't.
So, I think I'll have to wire my fuel pump into the master service relay so it kicks in when I turn the key.
Suggestions?

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 08/04/2011 21:38
No, the 16vt ECU controls the fuel pump: it speaks in a somewhat convoluted way to a double relay up in the top right of the diagram, 35, which is fed with a permanent live. The right hand side is turned on whenever the ignition is live and powers the injector live side (the ECU grounds the injectors) and sundry other bits and bobs.
That live enables the coil on the other half; when the associated terminal is grounded by the ECU on pin 28, the second half of the relay closes and livens the fuel pump and the lambda sensor. The return from the fuel pump is *not* to an earth in the boot (as the 20vt) but via the inertia switch by the driver's knee.

Gonna have to stare at the diagram again and spot it LOL

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 08/04/2011 22:47
Just realised I missed out a gray connector near the main connector on the loom, going to test it with my multimeter to see the pinout
Posted By: Anonymous
Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 08/04/2011 23:00
OK fuel pump and injector warning light outputs on this connector. Means I've got all the pinouts accounted for and how to initiate the fuel pump
SORTED.
OK, now I should be able to splice this into my loom now
Almost got the GTVs engine loom out, but it kinda goes under the carpet, need to find the connectors to split it away in the cockpit

Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 09/04/2011 07:13
Ah yes, the well-hidden little grey connector from the instrument loom... there's a three-pin connector upstream from that - in the engine bay on the firewall - that picks up the injector warning light and is also used for diagnostic tool connection.

Have you got the oil cooler bracket? If you have, no need for fabrication, just undo the drivers side engine mount, slip the bracket over the top of the mount and re-fit the mount
Posted By: Anonymous
Re: GTV Q2 Discussion Thread... - 18/04/2011 19:03
Doesn't fit, not deep enough to reach the engine mount about 20mm deeper would then work.

I like these, watched a Top Gear youtube vid on the car. Clarkson slated it really, still, we all don't need to go hell for leather around a track everyday do we!
Jesus, wish they would do some write ups about everyday driving instead of always seeing which is the fastest around a ****ing track!

Sorry Begbie, that weekend I could have died twice!
Sam was there to see my steering column come off my steering rack and no I've never worked on that part of the car, but it looked like it was bodged on in the past.
