Also as a random question, am I allowed to bring my little boy as a passenger? (it would also keep me under control.

Some of us stayed here back in February Marco:
http://www.premierinn.com/en/checkHotel/EASPTI/east-midlands-airportOnly a few miles from the track.
If you're planning on stopping over on the Saturday night, then I've just had a look and if you book now, you'll get the room for £29.
Don't leave it until last minute, as these room prices will go up as the time gets closer and will cost you about £70.

it is the case where i go agm.. and possibly not to the track day.. or i go track day and definalty not to the AGM!!
if i didnt need to tax the car + service planned ect then this would be an easy choice for me.. i would have booked!!

Firstly.... I pay for hair removal... It's different... Plus if I didn't shave it off and sell to a person on the forum.... Not naming ANY one who have a blue plus and is call Proccy... I would be really skint!!
Thanks for the offer JBT, but I know you have a new born and I would rather pay £30 then put you out... Plus... I'm scared of what you may do to me in my sleep...
*shudder*

You can give the £30 to Jbt's baby, for the loan of the cot and bottle for the night
I'm sure if you need a comforter, Jbt will give you something to suck on too, although may cost a couple of quid extra

T.... If that was any one else That would of posted that I would of been worried...
But as I know what you plan to do to Mario with that bottle of tyre shine and a rubber ring at the AGM... I'm not surprised any more
Great... Now I'm getting "interesting" texts from JBT about how he can give a 5 star service and Proccy can vouch for him!! Lol

it isn't as far as i'm concerned - i did it last time and he knew what he was on about, but you just go back to your own preferred stye. i'd suggest having a couple of laps with jbt or hovedan to check their lines through corners etc, then just build your speed up slowly. try not to indicate round corners, only when you're pulling over to let people overtake or to enter the pits.....

Me too. All too often there isn't much on track fast enough to have fun with. Most drivers with fast cars don't really use them to their full potential. That's not a problem for some of our Coop track drivers... They use them past their potential

Anybody booked a garage? I'll cough up to share with a couple of people?
I've got one booked already (my Westy literally fills up with water if it rains ... so it needs to be inside
) ... anyone is welcome to share

I thought I got a free pit space for Iife with your old car Dave?
As this is a cheap focused events day, i expect there will be freebie garages available on the day. More often than not there is with focused events days
And you'll only get two to a garage, four if you get garages next to each other.
Plan for the morning for you early birds (and lazy Italians staying there) should be to roll as many coops into as many separate garages as there are empty when we all arrive.
Just like germans, on beaches with towels. Claim our territory

Of course, Dan ... you're welcome to share my garage space
As you say, you can only really get 2 to a garage though .... so we do need some to be booked, or some early arrivers to nab any empty ones!

Re: Donington Full GP, Sunday 13th Nov, £105 - 27/10/2011 22:02
Looking forward to it! A couple of questions:
1) How much tyre wear should I expect? Is it worth buying some cheap tyres to chew up for the day? I've got 6mm tread left on the fronts so I guess I shouldn't be worried about driving home after...?
2) Can you easily disable the ABS on a Coop? I don't like the idea of it going off in every braking zone!
Posted By: Anonymous
Re: Donington Full GP, Sunday 13th Nov, £105 - 27/10/2011 22:18
The ABS isnt intrusive in any way around the track.So dont touch it.
As for tyre wear,if the tracking and suspension is mechanically sound then the wear should be evenly distributed.
On average youll spend around 2 hours of track time on the day driving so the wear isnt too bad.
I have ran toyo t1r's on 4 trackdays running near 500bhp and there still on if that gives you any indication.
Extreme wear will occur mainly from body roll.

If the queues for passenger rides are as bad as in Feb then we best charge a fiver to reduce queue times.
Or get one of those number machines.
My mate Lloyd will have to charge for rides in his Corvette as its a 7.0 litre and does 2 miles per gallon.

Make sure you do Dan, they are a good bunch of lads and will welcome you with open arms, except proccy, as you'll reach his stomach first
Turn up, park up next to the Coupes, you'll be talked about at first, as they'll be wondering who you are
Make sure you go and introduce yourself to them, so they know who you are and so that you're not wandering about all scared and feeling alone and that they hate you - that all comes after you've met them
Take a helmet (a proper one that you buy from a shop, not Marco) with you, if you want passenger rides and enjoy the day
Wish I could be there
I have no worries about chasing down the Corvette.

Brum, its £10 per person for passenger rides, but proccy will let you ride hit for free... if you can manage to climb on to him first
come down, it will be a great laugh!!

Phoned them but no way they are up for any haggling which is a shame, and reluctant to pay £165 for such a busy day. I will still come along as a passenger if that's ok and see if they are any more willing for a deal in cash on the day as a driver.

Is there any chance of just turning up in the coupe to watch? would be good to finally meet some of you folks
(Dont quote me on that)
sounds great i just hope my coupe doesn't let me down again before then

In case anyone is going that wants to record their track time, I have some mini dv cameras I will bring if there is interest.
(copied from Marcos camera solution thread)
But fear not, as I have about half a dozen mini dv cameras (same as Reuben used at Spa). Simply plug in a smartphone memory card and cable tie it to your bumper, and you'll get a ground level view, with accompanying engine noise.
They are an excellent trackday recording solution.
I'll do them for £10 each. All charged and ready to record.
Let me know if interested and I'll bring some?

I'll see you all tomorrow
I will be bringing my video camera and Lid and hoping to have some passenger laps. I've always wanted a ride in a lotus7 based car too
My next sports car will be either a caterham or lotus elise.
I will see all of the M42 lot tomorrow at 7 - I have to drop something off at Joe's on the way though.

Firstly i thought it was a great track day because for once my car survived it and performed pretty well on low boost.....
Secondly it was great to see the usual suspects there and to meet a few newbies, welcome folks!!!
Thirdly and more importantly everyone got off the track unhurt - although there were a few casualties along the way, most notably Mario, but nothing terminal. Hopefully all will be back on the road soon
And lastly to JBT for an epic few laps in the monster that is his car .............1.58 secs for a lap at Donington isn't too shabby

fantastic day had by nearly all.
Shame about your car Mario,looked very well prior to the damage.
Had some epic races and managed to hold off Lloyd's corvette for 5 laps until my clutch pedal stuck to the floor.
Highlight was when Barbz was in the passenger seat and i lost the back end at 130 followed by some scruffy tank slapping corrections.
Luckily it came back,and Barbz now knows not to ever enter a car with me again.As does Proccy,Tim42 and Porkys Mrs.
Great way to end a year of top track action with the car for me.
Great cars,great company and hopefully see you all soon.

I've got a few videos of my runs today. Will get them up tomorrow.
About as good a day as you could hope for November. Was VERY greasy first up, my lap times were around 2.08 then, and by the afternoon we had bright sunlight and a dry track, so I was able to don my slicks and lap times came down to sub 2 mins, best a 1.58 in my final run.
I don't recall being overtaken by another coop, bar Marco on my last lap when my brakes failed completely at the end of the start/finish straight at around 125, and I was limping back to the pits later that lap. Hairy!
Shame about the casualties, hope Mario gets fixed easily

Re: Donington Full GP, Sunday 13th Nov, £105 - 14/11/2011 10:44
Bit of a weird day for me being there with the Caterham but not actually driving it.
First passenger ride of the day was with Marco. I hadn't realised before I sat in the car that this was only his second ever trackday! We had a few late (very) braking moments on a still slippery track into the chicane and Melbourne hairpin, but we survived. Marco was certainly not lacking in bravery, especially when being chased by Hovedan, no lack of power from your car either. I wish I'd either kept quiet or did some proper coaching as I forgot that the sun visor camera was recording every word
. It would be good to go out again on track if you're willing mate. I had offered to be a passenger with Mario and give a few tips, no chance of that in the end of course.
Next up was a passenger ride with Hovedan. Very quick and consistant lapping, especially impressive was the braking, even after 6 or 7 hard laps. Yes, we had a fair bit of vibration, but the strength of the braking plus grip from the cheapie tyres did surprise me.
Just before lunch on a dry track Dave took me out in the Westie. First time out in a Westfield for me, and it felt pretty different and quite open with having no roll cage in front of me. We had a good chat before hand where we agreed that getting used to rear wheel drive after a lifetime of front wheel drive took some getting used to, especially after that little accident on the road. We had a good steady run with only one little drama braking for the chicane where we nearly went into the litter, instead we went over the kerb/grass and thankfully avoided hitting the low sump
. Sat up higher in the Westfield the airflow tried to suck my helmet off (oo-er!). The engine did sound good and it certainly had some straightline power.
We stopped for lunch and Dave kindly offered me a drive, it would have been rude to have said no. Dave wasn't sure if he wanted to be a passenger though, haha. A couple of warm up laps to explore the braking and cornering and then foot down. Very interesting handling characteristics with major lift off oversteer into corners, that was neutralised by applying throttle and/or opposite lock. As a result quite a few corners were navigated sideways! After checking Dave was ok with a thumbs up (you can't hear a thing) I pressed on and we passed plenty of cars and didn't get passed ourselves. Sadly only one Coupe out at the time as I'd have liked to have seen how it compared to one of the big power Coupes. Each lap I was pushing it a bit more and enjoyed trying to slide around the hairpin until going in to quickly and that lift off oversteer just stepped the back end out too far for a dab of oppo to catch it. A little half spin so time to cool down and come in before I do some damage!
I'll leave further comments to Dave, but I enjoyed it and with better tyres and a bit of suspension tweeking it will give more confidence, quicker lap times and less chance of future spins.
I left early to 'enjoy' the 4 1/2 hour drive back to Dorset in the light. Next trackday I will be back in the Caterham and happy to give passenger rides, especially to JBT so he can remember who I am and which car i drive. Cheers, good to see so many Coupes out on track, probably as many as I've ever seen.

Re: Donington Full GP, Sunday 13th Nov, £105 - 14/11/2011 14:02
A great day out on track, and great to see everyone. Sorry I didn't catch up with more people, but once the track started to dry at about 10:30 I was pretty much permanently out on the track (at least it felt like that!) until closing time
In total, the car did heading towards 200 miles on track! And my neck is certainly aching this morning ... which is a first from a track day for me!
I managed to give quite a few passenger rides ... I think at least 7 or 8 different people as passengers and at least 3 different drivers had a go
But there were still some folks I missed (not least Marco and Mr Tickle) ... so sorry if I promised you a ride and didn't deliver. There will definitely be a next time though
I'm still very much in learning mode with the car, and certainly when pushing on ... hence the very slow start, slowly building through the day. Things definitely improved, particularly after the intervention from Dave ....
We stopped for lunch and Dave kindly offered me a drive, it would have been rude to have said no. Dave wasn't sure if he wanted to be a passenger though, haha. A couple of warm up laps to explore the braking and cornering and then foot down. A little half spin so time to cool down and come in before I do some damage!
This was the highlight of the day for me .... taking Dave out as a passenger, and him giving me plenty of tips on where I can improve ... and then to be taken round in my own car with him showing me how hard it can actually be pushed! A great laugh spending almost every corner in some form of sideways slide
The laps with Dave showed just what great car control he has ... sliding all four wheels at upwards of 100mph with it all under control with throttle and opposite lock! They also clearly showed me how much more capable the car is than me ... a good thing, though, that there is plenty for me to learn and improve. I'll get there one day!
The comedy moment of the day occurred coming down the straight heading towards the chicane ... Dave driving 110mph+ ... the gearknob came off ... which he busily tried to demonstrate to me by waving it around in front of my face ... as I was busily trying to indicate that he might want to concentrate on the impending chicane
Probably the last track until March for me now! A great way to end the year

Classic kit-car stuff Dave, that's great
Sounds like a really good day guys, nice work, and hope the damaged coupes get sorted quickly and easily. That damage to Mario's car doesn't look all that bad - gutting, but looks like it could've been far worse. What happened? Loose wheel bolts, or did they shear?
Posted By: MarioCirillo
Re: Donington Full GP, Sunday 13th Nov, £105 - 14/11/2011 15:19
Hey guys, damage is just superficial thankfully.
I will need a new rear bumper and some work on the rear quater which will involve straightening it out and re welding the seam in the inner cubby hole in the boot. There is no chassis damage or issues with the suspension.
What happend....
We have removed all the wheel bolts and have laid them out on the floor. the rear passenger wheel that came off had two shorter bolts as did the loose front passenger wheel.
I have never changed the wheel bolts on my car. They are the ones that came with the car when i brought it. Ive done track days before ie spa. So all i can imagine thats happend is before these smaller bolts were spread around the car, this time when the track wheels were put on they got mixed up and all ended up on one side. That combined with the stress of being on the track would have worked them loose leading to the wheel coming off.
Im pretty gutted I can believe how unlucky ive been
But hey, its just exterior damage, the car is still sound so I will be getting it fixed and back on the road in no time.
I have the track Bug now but LE41 will not be seeing another track bar spa. Its time for me and some amigos to purchase a track coupe

Great news Mario!!
A track coop is definitely the way to do it. Seriously, the amount of gravel on the track yesterday nearly took Dave_T's head off, let alone what it does for a1 resprayed cars!!

That is unlucky, but good that the damage wasn't more extensive, and the fix is straightforward.
Weird that you'd have 4 shorter bolts - presume these are getting replaced with "full length" ones too!

Glad you are ok Mario. Get them new bolts in mate. Allways good practice to keep an eye on the boltsat track days. Reuben and Dan had issues at Spa this year but thankfully kept pulling them up tight.
Looks like you all had a great day and i'm pleased the weather was good as it makes it so much more fun and social.

I won't have any vids up until Wednesday eve because of the ridiculously long upload time, as it looks like I'll have to let it run overnight. Was it that slow for you Marco?!?
So until then, we'll have to
chuckle at enjoy Marcos offerings

A little bit, could of done with some straight line power and a bit more power low down...
But I was running her around 1bar to be on The safe side
I do think a track car is the way forward after seeing Marios car...

track car = no worry about ditching it in the wall and just spend money on tuning (including safety). all out ragging around the track with out thinking will it get me to work in the morning etc

I forgot about that bit
Cheers for the compliments Dave, will spend a bit more time coaching next time and you can take my car out for a
spin drive
Worth you buying an autocom intercom at some stage, to make talking possible when in the car.

Mario,track car =
Initial costs to buy £500-£800
Preparation £500
Safety bits £500
tax and test or trailer hire
Etc etc etc
I will always track my coupe,despite being on its second frontal paintjob due to chips.
No point just staring at something,it must be used or wheres the fun.
you were just unlucky pal that someones lack of concentration bent the car.

Re: Donington Full GP, Sunday 13th Nov, £105 - 16/11/2011 11:01
I guess your right... however it wasnt down to the bolts not being tight... 4 of the bolts were wrong
No idea where they came from as ive never changed the bolts on the coupe so its just fluke that they all ended up on that side of the car.
It would still be nice to have a track car though... but i see your point

On the scooby and focus ST forum theres talk of a coupe with pink wheels flying around Donny.
Pink wheels distinguish it,as my mate heard about it all the way from Mallory park.
Not bad for some Italian motors that are 12 years old.
Turns out a that Red ST was the focus owners club owner from what i have been told.
Running well over 400 horses.
As for the scoobies the blue one was also well over 400.

Just a little video of the line up going out onto the track.
Clicky many thanks Hovedan, Ecrab and Dave_T for the passenger rides.
realistically, I will probably never buy another coupe (having owned three) even though I have had a great time driving them over the last 5 years.
I am however planning on buying a track based caterham though on a trailer

It took almost 24 hours to upload, but here's 4 videos of the day;
Session 1, early in the morning, greasy track, with Fishy Dave as passenger;
Donny Session 1 Session 2, just before lunch, track drying out. This is the session with Chrissy mate in the supercharged DC2;
Donny Session 2 Session 3, just after lunch, first time out on my near slick Pirelli P Zero Competition Dry tyres;
Donny Session 3 And session 4, later on in the afternoon, with Mr Tickle as passenger;
Donny Session 4 Phew, this uploading lark is hard work

I reckon I need to review the way I upload from my new digital SD camcorder.
At the moment, it downloads to my pc in VLC media format (.mts). Then I converted it to mpeg2 format using the software with the camcorder.
Got to be a better way, but what? Any ideas?!?

Right, now I've cracked the uploads. Some 5 days later
So to repeat my earlier post, with properly working links and vids with sound
It took almost 24 hours to upload, but here's 4 videos of the day;
Session 1, early in the morning, greasy track, with Fishy Dave as passenger;
Donny Session 1 Session 2, just before lunch, track drying out. I was running around 320bhp in this session with Chrissy's mate in the supercharged DC2;
Donny Session 2 Session 3, just after lunch, first time out on my near slick Pirelli P Zero Competition Dry tyres. Having a dice with the insane sounding 400 brake 16vt and later Crazylegs 20vt;
Donny Session 3 And session 4, later on in the afternoon, with Mr Tickle as passenger;
Donny Session 4 Uploads; done!

and hopefully it will go a bit better now we've sorted out the odd hiccup or two, we only finnished it the day before
apparently there was too much overlap on the cams which meant very little vaccuum for the brake servo so you had to stand on them as hard as you could to make them work.
it didn't do much for the power output either
in your vid a customer was driving, we are doing some engine work for a 750bhp monster he is building and have just finished the head, we asked him to come along just for some fun but he kept having to back off to avoid being black flagged for noise

Hi Hovendan,
Yes sorry about that, I've looked at the video, the car came up on boost even though I was only half throttling it and then I was only using around 6000rpm's max, power was like a switch that day, and then trying to keep the revs down for the noise control didn't leave much rev room to work with. Maybe I can came and have another play with you chaps when one of my Toad cars are finished, do a bit of testing at the same time maybe.
FWD is not my thing I'm afraid so sorry to everyone if I got in the way, Toad will be a much more controlled drive.
Regards
The Customer
P.s I was only driving for a little less than half the time that day.
