Castle Combe 2nd july OPL - 21/05/2012 22:31

Have just booked this with trackdays.co.uk it's an open pit lane which castle combe themselfs don't offer so you only get this from outside companys, Hove dan is also in on this is anyone else coming should be a great day and only £159

Re: Castle Combe 2nd july OPL - 21/05/2012 22:38

£159 is a great price for Combe, which is usually around the £200 mark.

Unfortunately we missed the birthday special on the 9th July at £135 (fully booked).

But, this is still a great price, and every chance it won't be as busy as the birthday special date too.

I'll have an empty car so will be happy to give passenger rides to anyone who shows their face. Combe is my domain so it'll be a quick day smile

Driving:
1. Senny Dave (in the Senator)
2. Hovedan

Passenger rides?

It's a bargain price and with the offer of a life time from Dan I think you now have to come even if you don't have a trailer.

Having only been on track in the wet before, and not in my own car, what sort of tyre wear should I expect? Trying to think of the total potential cost of the day!

Did you manage to get the senny out after lunch at all Dave/Leighton?

Re: Castle Combe 2nd july OPL - 02/07/2012 22:34

Well done to those few hardy souls who popped along to a sodden Castle Combe today, to Senny Dave, Flea, Jon13 and Robfow.

Unfortunately, the rain proved the nemesis of the Senator, that is one fair weather track car!

Hope everyone enjoyed the passenger rides in my 20vt, despite having my Yokohama A048 tyres (not reknown for wet weather ability), I kept it on the black stuff, almost lost it going up Avon Rise at around 100mph, but hung on and all captured on glorious video!

The old girl was one of the quickest things out on track, and didn't miss a beat. Although today's excursions have come at the cost of a suspected rear wheel bearing failure. Small fry.

Videos to follow on youtube - currently uploading...

Re: Castle Combe 2nd july OPL - 03/07/2012 09:25

Vids as promised (uploaded first time overnight on the tube, shocker!)

Session with Senny Dave as passenger. Lots of (other) cars spinning as we cruised on past most!

Hairy moment up Avon rise at 26'40!

Vid 1

And a session with Flea as passenger, less in the moments instances but that's obviously due to my mastering of the conditions by then. Interesting comparison with a golf 1.8 turbo conversion near the end, with him getting far better traction out of the corners, but with me reeling him in on the straights and under breaking. Testament to the carbotechs performance in these conditions. Although this does little to promote the Yokohama AO48's wet performance, scrabbling a plenty trying to put the power down out of corners.

Vid 2

Wet conditions made for a testing, but still hugely entertaining day for me. Very different from the dry stellar top speed days. The coupe again performing very well smile

Re: Castle Combe 2nd july OPL - 03/07/2012 21:24

Thanks Dave, enjoy sunny Bahrain safe in the knowledge that you haven't missed much track time. The vids were taken in the afternoon sessions, when the track "dried out" a little. In the morning, the only way you'd have gone quick in the Westie would have been after turning it upside down and putting an outboard on the back!

Cheers Ross, these days are what you make of them. Still a very challenging day in these conditions, which definitely improve your driving skills. As for the hairy moment, well my Sphincter ani externus has yet to relax biglaugh

You had no chance Dave, in a car on track with me, long gone are the days I used to cringe at the guff I say whilst driving!

26'45 on vid 1, where we cheated death, or at least a 100mph spin into the barriers. I laughed so crazily I sounded like Mayzon laugh
