Because this is on the AGM we have to give priority too Coupes and club members first.

And this time everyone attending will have to do there bit too help out with the timing, start line flag etc.

Thanks mate but don't worry....I'm already looking at sticky track tyres and a pit crew just in case it's dry.

However a bit of light rain like last Sunday would be welcome. thumb

There are loyal froum users that HAVE been members, and lots from the old forum, Nit just me that would think that stinks - With a max 25 capacity, we would all have to buy coupes again,,, Hmmm,,,. surely its fun pitting against Non coops too??

As a club, priority has to be given to those who are current paid up members for club organised events such as this, regardless as to histories.

What car they bring, for me, doesn't matter. Most will be coops.

In order for the club to continue it needs membership subs, which in turn support the forum. So I'm sorry Chrissy my old mate, but I have to disagree with you by saying priority must be given to those who are current paid up members.

Just join up again, I can feel Proccy coming along to spell out the benefits of club membership biglaugh

One of these benefits, of course, must simply be priority at club organised events such as this and Spa.

I will be a member one day, and another Coop owner..

Health and safety for you! No in all seriousness all circuits have their capacities, and the low capacity at Curborough is just relative to its size.

Now if we were to arrange another big participation at Donington or the like, the capacity would be more than sufficient to cover all the track day heros here!

Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 - 06/06/2012 19:23

Paul,i know its the AGM but i like to attend these events on the basis that i will spend alot of time on the track.
With 20+ people it will mean a 40 minute wait in between a 1 minute run.
So on that basis someone else can take my place,i will come and watch.

Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 - 06/06/2012 20:15

I am going to suggest some improvements ....

Everyone that's driving has a stint on timing duty
Everyone that's driving has a stint on start-line duty
Everyone that's driving helps pack away at the end of the day

I think we could devise some kind of batch-scheduling, so that everyone gets some rapid-repeat tracktime, while everyone else can spectate - this way it removes the need to have to jump on the back of the queue as soon as you finish a run. We could even have "heats and finals", but this would favour the faster cars, which isn't really the aim of the day - it's just about having fun - maybe we could have "classes" based on known bhp - this would give all drivers a chance.

Just some thoughts, but I believe we should learn from the previous events - take the positives forward and learn from the (few) negatives

I am quite happy to help with timing etc. I assumed that eveyone was happy with the ammount of time on track I certainly was.
Everyone was not joining the queue straight away after their run, most were taking a break after a couple of goes

It won't be a 40 min wait it should only be about 27 minutes at the most. So should be able get at least 6 laps in the morning and 6 in the afternoon, and that's with helping out.

Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 - 06/06/2012 21:43

From my experience, I'd suggest you arrange some 'groups' of a half dozen cars so that people get a few runs in a row; period waiting or helping with timing etc, and then another session later in the day.

Particularly if it's wet, a couple of runs in quick succession helps get a bit of temperature into tyres and brakes.

Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 - 06/06/2012 21:54

Sorry for sticking my oar in, but I thought this is not a general track day, it is an entertainment adding to the AGM weekend. If you aren't coming to the AGM, you don't get on the track.... and if you aren't a FCCUK member you aren't coming to the AGM.

£28 for a few adrenaline- and terror-filled laps of the track is bloody good value as far as I am concerned... damned sight better than EuroDisney or Alton Towers!

Please feel free to disagree; I'm sure a lot will, but these are just my feelings,

I'm always aware these are FCCUK organised events and am grateful to be allowed to attend. If it becomes a members only event I will understand, as long as I know now I won't outstay my welcome. It looks like this one will be well subscribed smile

Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 - 06/06/2012 23:51

Hate to soud rude but if it's a members only event, this should of been out in the members area, once it's reached the max and if there's places available then open upto the forum.

But rules should be in place, like Nigel said..

Each person should do timing/flag ect

Only fair!

If there's a place for me, result!
I a member wants my place, it's open for you!
smile

These events are a result for FCCUK members & forum users.
There so much fun.

I will re-do my membership so I can come to the AGM... I ain't missing that for all the lard in proctard's stomach!!

Dave, no offense intended to your goodly self... I appreciate the support (and entertainment) provided by you and other car owners to us poor Coupsters thumb , mainly in showing us how to drive! I just thought that this particular event was an adjunct to the AGM, and almost an incentive for members to attend and input to the meeting.

At the sort of price that Paul seems to extract from Curborough I would have thought we could do this every three months or so (would be fun in the snow shocked ),

I'd be up for a couple a year.

Also, I'd suggest we try to get a good few numbers to Donny, and Castle Combe once a year. The few days we've all done at Donny over the last couple of years have always been entertaining/eventful*

*or painful cry

Combe on the 2nd July still has availability. Dave?!?

I would like to attend. Club member and Coupe owner, and also my wifes birthday.

Not been on here for ages as been so busy. Wouldn't like to take the place of somebody who turns up for trackdays as I haven't made one yet. My car has been poorly with different problems. Finishing her off in the next couple of days. Would I be able to attend and someone take the wife around? If they did they would need earplugs wobble I could help with timing, flag waving and pranks hehe

Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 - 29/07/2012 09:56

A suggestion for changing the format of how the day is run....

The problems:

1) Drivers that want to run are sitting in the queue for up to 45 minutes to get a run

2) The day is also supposed to be a social event, but there's not much socialising, because lots of people are parked in the queue

3) Some drivers didn't volunteer for flag or timing duties

The solution:

All drivers are placed into groups of (say) five cars - with 25 cars, there will be Groups A, B, C, D, E.

Group A goes to the grid and each car is allowed two (or maybe three) runs each.

Group E does the timing and flag duties.

Groups B, C and D get to hang around, chat and look at engine bays and the like, knowing that they aren't missing out.

After each of Group A has done their runs, Group B gets down to the startline and does their runs

Group A takes over the startline and timing duties.

I reckon each group would take about 20 minutes to complete two runs each - or 30 minutes for three runs.

This means that we would get through all five groups at least twice during the day. If there's time at the end, we could then open it up for a free-for-all.

The obvious downside is that it would be impossible for people to do 15+ runs as has happened in the past. I've never wanted to do this, but several people have made the best of the day and got lots of track time.

There are several plus points:

1) People would be doing their second (and maybe third) runs with hot tyres
2) Startline and timing duties would be fairly shared out (at last!)
3) People would be able to socialise between their scheduled group runs - at the moment, if you want to chat, you're missing your place in the queue

I'm more than happy to do the thinking and organising behind this, along with producing timing sheets and "duty" rotas

However, if people are happy with the "open" format of previous events, we can stay with it.

Your thoughts please.....

(could a Mod add a poll please?)

Hahaha, that's a good one! I am not afraid of pushing the limits Proccy and if it involves pulling trees to find out where those limits are then I'm game:P At the end of the day, after that fun spin, I managed to pull my best lap time. Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 * Payments Required - 09/09/2012 19:36

Right - a question for all the drivers

I'm putting together a fairly loose set of rules for the day, which will involve breaking the drivers up into groups - each group will have two runs (taking about 20 minutes) and then the next group will take over.

We have two ways of forming the groups - numbers out of a hat (which will mix up the abilities and power) or a 'grading' system, which will pitch (roughly) equivalent drivers or cars together

Mods - can we have a poll please? Random or Graded

Final tweaks before Curborough completed today - FMIC from KJ, drilled box, Koni rear adjustable (set to max hard tongue ) and Bilstein B6 front shock absorbers with AVO springs. Hopefully, the later will help me stay on the track driving

Re: Curborough 14th September 2012 * Payments Required - 09/09/2012 21:44

CURBOROUGH AGENDA - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Mods - feel free to make this into a Sticky, or start a new thread.

Earlier in this thread, people voted overwhelmingly for more structure to the day's proceedings, so here's my proposal for the day's driving / marshalling duties - I am more than happy to make changes - all suggestions very welcome.

I'm estimating that each run is around two minutes (two laps takes about 1m 25s in the wet, plus the time to get from the finish line down to the start line)

There will be five groups, each having five drivers.

Group A will be ready and waiting on the startline at 9:00am. Each driver in Group A will have two runs, taking a total of 20 minutes. This means that there will be a maximum of eight minutes between each run.

During Group A's driving, the drivers from Group D will be performing timekeeping and startline duties.

At approximately 9:15, the five drivers from Group B will be called to the startline area, ready to start their session as soon as Group A have completed their two runs each. At the same time, Group E will take over the marshalling duties from Group D.

So - the driving rota will look like this:-

..and the marshalling rota will look like this:-

All being well, we should have 20 - 30 minutes at the end of the day for a "free-for-all"

A BIG CAVEAT - getting each group through four times will mean that people have to be ready to drive at their allocated time AND take over marshalling duties at their allocated time.

A SECOND BIG CAVEAT - if it's dry, we may get through more quickly - if so, we have some choices:-

1) Start doing three runs per group session
2) Try to do a fifth rota
3) Have a longer free-for-all at the end

I know this might come across as a bit too structured, but it will mean four things:

1) there will be no queues (other than the maximum of four cars waiting to run in each group)

2) Everyone gets a roughly equal time driving (in the past, people that have spent hours in the timing hut or at the startline have only had three or four runs)

3) Everyone does their fair share of startline / timkeeping duty

4) Each group will have a 20 minute "rest" between driving and marshalling, followed by a 40 minute gap between marshalling and their next driving session - this will mean that people can muck around, take photos, chat, take passenger rides or just be generally sociable, without fear of not being in the queue and thus missing valuable driving time.

Some other rules / suggestions

1) Get to Curborough on time (8:30-ish). You will have to sign on, walk the track (if you haven't been there before) and listen to a brief driver-briefing - to make this work, we need people not to hold up proceedings

2) Get together with the other members of your group to decide who will go down to the startline and who will go to the timing hut. There are only two people required for marshalling duties from each group, so the other three will be able to hang around or go for passenger rides.

3) For your first time at either the startline or timing hut, arrive a few minutes early, so you can pick up how things are done (there will be a walkie-talkie link between the startline and timing hut - timing is completely manual and involves the startline shouting "3-2-1-GO!" down the walkie-talkie, and the timing person starting and stopping a stopwatch, followed by recording the time on a timing sheet)

4) At the end of the day, there is a fair amount of packing away to be done - previously, this has taken a handful of people half an hour - it will only take ten minutes if everyone chips in - PorkyPaul will direct people.

5) If you want to let someone else drive your car, you will have to give up one of your allocated drives from one of the sessions - entirely up to you.

6) If you want to drive someone else's car, you're welcome (with their permission, naturally), but you will be taking one of their allocated slots, so you may wish to reciprocate by offering one of your allocated slots to them.

7) Given the above, I don't see why we shouldn't allow drivers to swap places with other drivers, but the default for each group is the five drivers in that group. If you swap with someone, it would be nice if you could let the startline know, so that the timing hut can record the right person / car. Don't forget, the timing hut will be expecting to know which five drivers they will be timing.

As I said above, I'm very happy to tweak things and depending on how the day goes, I may even make small changes during the day (for example, if only 20 drivers turn up, we may change to three runs per session)

Oh - one final VERY important rule - its supposed to be a bit of fun - don't take things TOO seriously, and have a great day's driving smile

See the poll a few posts above this - its either names out of a hat, or a graded system based on bhp and/or ability

I understand that but what I meant was which group a driver will be allocated to - A,B,C etc? wink

Pull the names from a hat Nigel, simples.

Looking forward to your suggestion, should hopefully make the day more enjoyable for all, equal time on track, sharing the burden of marshalling duties, and most importantly, time to chat smile

Names in a hat those arriving late can fill up the later groups...

Slight sidenote...maybe a bit too late as well, but are there any avid photographers going at all?
Only reason I ask is because I now own several great pics of mine in action at combe the weekend just gone.I thought maybe others would like some pictures for posterity....

Great idea re the administration. I would say random is better as times will be updated during random points during the day rather than times getting quicker in waves, if that makes sense crazy
