Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 08/09/2012 21:56

Another victim of camp.

By all accounts they walked away which was the main thing.

To me it looks like they were stil travelling at 100mph, maybe brakes had gone off as brake lights were on from the moment they came into shot?

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 08/09/2012 21:59

Thought it was you at first Dan, glad it isn't. And also glad they walked away.

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 08/09/2012 22:06

Wasn't there today, heard from others that were about it.

Testament to tyre walls they walked away. A spectacular off and escape nonetheless shocked

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 08/09/2012 22:36

shocked Do we know who it was? Surely it must be due to cooked brakes or a stuck throttle? No-one could get it that wrong ooo

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 08/09/2012 22:44

That was a big off moment, good to know they walked away.

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 07:24

That's a massive crash ... you rarely see anything like that on a track day. Something mechanical must have failed, surely?

I really hope that they are ok, as everyone is reporting.

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 10:45

Another corner and that would be fatal.

Big crash for a track day, do we know who they are yet?

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 11:22

The driver was Jason Holder, passenger Kristian Kelly. After the dust had settled they gave an interview to Forge motorsports saying they're both ok but the car is totalled.

Jon how did you get your coupe through the exhaust sound test, it's LOUD?

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 11:36

Wow, that's a massive crash indeed! I bet you his brakes were cooked. I feel sorry for them frown

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 16:27

So was it his first lap of that session as well ? If it was surely the brakes were not cooked !!

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 16:37

Yes first lap, didn't technically complete a full lap frown The brakes were working for the first few corners so either catastrophic failure or just an error leading into camp corner.

On a positive note, Jon's car performed very well for his first track outing. I had to significantly detune the car for the day due to a slipping clutch and no way to reduce boost after 5k due to boost creep! Once she is allowed full power it will make for an even more exciting time smile

Jason holder as in Zimpara????

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 18:22

If it's the first lap my guess would be either inexperience at Combe (strange track position when the car comes into view) or possibly very old brake fluid which boiled. First time my blue Coupe went out on track the fluid boiled at the end of the first lap, thankfully at an airfield so plenty of run off. Oh, and the car had full Fiat main dealer service history to that point too, but clearly hadn't had a brake fluid change in years.
I now change mine yearly, in fact changed the Caterhams today.
Relieved to hear they are ok.

Re: Forge Motorsport Action Day at Castle Combe 8.9.12 - 09/09/2012 20:36

All I could find was a comment from kristian kelly saying how good the day was and hoping those involved in the big off were ok and he replied saying they are both ok and thanked the safety safe..Ive also left a comment.

Oooft thats a big shunt. Atleast he managed to turn it slighty before hitting the barrier - that would have eased the impact a little.

Glad they are ok.

I know John, that's what makes it all the more gutting - lots of people put a lot of hard work into that car to get it roadworthy and something like reliable! Thanks again for all your help getting it Spa!

Yea, i bought it from KTM and it was Jamie3's before that!
