360bhp and under 1/4 mile

360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 08:50

I know 1/4 mile means f all in the real world but even still it seems to be a large discussion within the group of cruisers i hang around with.

My current spec of my car is longlife 2.5" exhaust with a silenced decat, k&n large kone, official evo 7-9 fmic with barbz short pipework and a gtech 1 chipand manual bleed valve and baileys dv.
Judging from what i have read and seen i beleive my car should be capable of a time within 13s weather its high or not is besides the point.
A few people who was in the conversation was saying they dont think my car is on performance par with a mountune mp350 focus rs which only run a 13.9 apparently.
isit capable for a coupe my spec to run within 13s or should i say isit rare? .

Also if people with a hybrid or gt28rs or rsr could please leave here a valid time you have run a 1/4 mile in and links to any videos and please if your signature doesnt say already write what turbo you have.

Last question according to torque stats a few 360bho and slightly under are able to complete a 1/4mile in 12's with a stage 3 turbo isit possible and could anyone supply me with proof.

I FULLY UNDERSTAND IT IS A POINTLESS THREAD BUT...
It is all pub talk and banter and i need you people with more knowledge and experience to help me with some ammunition and towards were to take my coupe smile
Thankyou all for reading and please help me with some positive replies or vids etc

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 09:16

You should be just within the 13's with your mods if your car is running correctly and you can launch it well. Boostmecoupeup went on about running a 13.9s with just a GTEC 1. He's got a few videos on youtube under the same name.

Santa Pod is the closest drag strip to you, why don't you propose a RWYB day later in the year to throw the gauntlet down? It's a cheap day out, bar the fuel cost.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 09:24

SIMMA managed a 13.95 too with a gtec 250bhp coupe, In my experience on seeing coupes run the 1/4, its only a select few that can actually achieve this though, requires immaculate launching, and a very healthy coupe,

Im sure you would have a go yourself and find yourself getting 14.4's etc.. then you will see how hard it is, over 300bhp its a different story.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 09:31

I think I've read somewhere before that once upon a time when Nigel had circa 300 bhp he ran in the 13's.

The coop is very quick once its going, but its all about getting the perfect launch.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 09:44

I could get 14.4 from my old clio williams lol

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 09:54

Well get to the pod Bossy - try it, I had a 250bhp coupe, I managed a 14.4 with a decent launch, which strip did you use? There is big difference in them, very slippy at the pod, And one year it was soooo grippy from glue cars were getting very quick times, Tonga on here with claimed 300ish bhp did a 12.4?? work that one out.

Nigel with 300bhp did an honest 13.6 - brill too

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 10:02

Santapod its not out of the ordinary either look up clio hybrid at pod with cams alone they all run consistent within 13'stocks run 14.5-14.9.
Is there any proof of a 350bhp ish coupe in 12 territory ?
I have drover other coupes one std a hell of alot slower than mine then another same spec gtech 1 but with a smic and mine is faster both owners agreed.
Even a mates e46 m3 we exchanged cars and come to agreement as i DONT RACE!

If im honest i dont boot my coupe from standstill so i couldnt care what my personal does as we coupe owners truly know its about im gear realistic driving smile .
But i do need some ammo for pub talk please

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 10:05

To put it into context, when I went to York Raceway, I couldn't launch the car for shit and ended up with my fastest time as being 13.4 @ 111mph, but with a 60ft time of 2.5 and this is with 435bhp.

If I could drop the 60ft by 0.3 to 2.2, my final 1/4 mile time should be 12.8

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 10:06

I think Nigels 400bhp made 12's as you need a 12 sec car to qualify for TOTB,

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 10:13

How do torquestats get there 1/4 mile times to what they do ?
A few user like hovedan and under have 0-100 rangine from 9.6-9.9 and 1/4miles in 12s to 13dead sick
then others will have everything but ?

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 10:31

I've never done a 1/4 mile, and never will do. All about the twisties for me.

Talked about this last night in the pub with Torquestats creator smile Torquestats calculates these stats, and as people say it's all about the launch, so these times will no doubt factor in the perfect launch.

*Edit, just looked at my spec, comes in at 12.82 seconds. Go me driving

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 10:47

I managed a best of 13.376 @ 102 when I was running 300bhp

Video

I also managed three sub-13 second runs in one day when I was at 400bhp

Video (Note - the smoke was the clutch - I tried a new launch method - didn't try it again rolleyes ) - I bettered this time later in the day with a 12.38 @ 117

What was the new launch method Nigel? Starting in 2nd gear?

LOL - normally, I just dump the clutch and moderate the wheelspin with the throttle. I thought I'd try using the clutch to control the wheelspin, but by the time I was at full boost, the clutch didn't have enough clamping force to stop it slipping. During that run, I had to lift off the throttle to get the clutch to bite

Thats impressive nigel.
Ashame your not local to the london/essex cruise scene
you would open the ignorant peoples eyes towards coupes around here
Some of the silly comments i have had said to me and underestimation its unreal.
People spend thousands nearing 10 plus and want to get emotional and compariss against a cheap car with minimal spending lol
obviously that is not applied to everyone here im talking myself and possibly others in my ball park

Ive been offered a proposition ;
If i can run anything starting 13 so 13.99seconds or under at pod £500 if i win or pay if i loose
what do you reckon ?

Easy.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 13/01/2012 20:05

Is the bet that your car can't do a 13.99 or better, or that YOU can't do it.

If it's the former, I'd be happy to come along and "assist" (for a share of the winnings, of course....)

However, I would say that your spec isn't massively better than standard (power-wise) - it won't be a walk in the park and a sub-14 is going to be purely down to getting it off the line cleanly. I'd recommend around 20psi and a decent burnout to get some heat into the fronts
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 14/01/2012 08:10

If you really want a good chance of winning, buy some R888's for the front. Think they are £150 a pop.

So if you win your £200 quid up, but they will probably want a re-match of some description if they have lost £500 to you, so be a good investment.

Either that or speak to Barbz about making sure its got the power to get you there even if the launch isn't 100% neat.

As Nigel says (and he's had enough practise over the years wink ) drop tyre pressures to 20psi (I had mine at this when I got my 13.35) and it'll be much easier to get off the line.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 14/01/2012 09:09

I forgot...

Be prepared to break the car.

A full throttle launch on a sticky surface is unbelievably hard on the transmission. You could quite easily end up going home courtesy of the AA

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 14/01/2012 10:09

At the next meet if you have a standard one i will let you drive mine.
there is actually a big difference weather there is suppose to be or not.
And yes i fully understand the damage it can do to my transmission.
Im pretty good at launching and im like a human dsg box getting through the gears smile .
I will let you lot know if i take up the challenge tonight smile

.. and I'll follow with a dustpan and brush to pick up the gearbox/diff/clutch parts. Good luck - just hope the car is a toy and not your daily driver.

Boringly negative, but Coupes are stylish quick cheap Grand Tourers, not drag artists rolleyes

It would appear they dont wish to carry out the £500 bet anymore confused
Its okay though because they will get something to shut them up soon.
Certain people on here will know what im talking about wink

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 15/01/2012 15:41

Just enjoy the coupe as it is, It ends in tears pretty much everytime a coupe is tuned alot over 300bhp, There are exceptions naturally,

You seem to be on a crusade to get a million bhp and better your mates cars,

Generally the Coupes are not supposed to be driven by people that sit in pubs talking and betting on races,

They are a touring coupe - with power!
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 15/01/2012 17:46

Never that.
the thought of going forged isnt even a option i dont plan on getting to that sort of power!
I will be happy with 350 and as for betting it was bought up of there own back!

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 07/02/2012 22:29

Iv'e seen a 20v coupe run consistant low 11 second runs at santa pod. It was about 5-6 years ago, I don't know much about it only that the tuner was the same guy that tuned my cars at the time and the car got broken up shortly after.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 08/02/2012 08:07

There's only been 2 UK coupes that have done 11 seconds run's

Flea / FC Performance

and

Marvic / Torque Italia

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 08/02/2012 10:54

Are you thinking of Markus? I don't think he ever did 11 second but was regularly doing 12 second runs.
Posted By: Nigel

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 08/02/2012 20:24

No UK Coupes have done low 11s - Begbie's right, only Mavric and Flea have broken into the 11s, both with 11.94 and both on drag tyres

More likely to crack the car than the barrier! IMO a pointless exercise; unless you have a Coupe to waste just build a dragster...

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 10/02/2012 22:25

I'd agree Tim, I've done my time trying to net .'s of a second up santa pod, and it's hard to do in normal car. You just hit a wall whereby the next step is spaceframe it and/or do something crazy with a V8 and a rear axle :-)

Boring Richard.

Back on the subject, the car I saw all those years ago wasn't the grey one in begbie's vid, I saw it in the for sale section last year and I know that low 11's coupe was broken up a long time ago.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 11/02/2012 09:03

I've also finished with Santa Pod - my last run cost me a gearbox, even though I was on street tyres - too much grip + too much power = bits of diff casing all over the startline

My aim now is to continue my quest to gradually improve the dynamics to make a car that can easily be used everyday AND embarrass super cars when the mood takes me

my ex coupe with GT28RS and flea map have arround 320bhp and 12,7sec with hankook RS2 tyres and without interior.
i don t have a video with that time but i have one with stock clutch slipping and full interior at KOE Hungary 2009 run 13,37.
i try to find the ticket with 12,7sec and the 60ft if i remember correctly it is 2,18sec

What was your terminal time?

My stock teg ran a 14.3 @ 102.5 @ crail

Its now running 250bhp I would expect 13.6 @105-106 now with the help of semi slicks as the the 60ft time is key for quicker runs

Absolutely not - when I was running 300bhp, I did a 13.37 @ 102 - clearly the gain for that run was in the launch, not in the top speed

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 01/05/2012 12:38

As Nigel said. It was all in the launch.
I had race logic traction control with "launch control", but could actually get a better time ( 13.6) with out it on.

You were almost a second quicker than my car with me doing a 14.3 @ 102.5 out of interest what was you 60ft time?
Posted By: Nigel

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 01/05/2012 14:31

I don't recall the 60ft for that particular occasion, but I'd guess it was in the 2.2 - 2.4 second range. I've probably still got the ticket somewhere, I'll see if I can find it
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 01/05/2012 14:46

I ran a 2.4 to 60ft on my run so you must of been well below that as my trap is the same but you ran a second quicker?

I think crails times are always slower than the pod.

I an now running semi slicks with 250bhp aiming for a mid 13 hopefuly ?

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 01/05/2012 17:36

I think I had 2.1 60ft.
I will look for ticket tonight. I know I kept it some where because I was so chuffed with my time.

Re: 360bhp and under 1/4 mile - 02/05/2012 08:46

I *think* I was 2.2 60ft, with 109mph @ 13.35 at crail, was my best.
