5 or 6 speed?

5 or 6 speed? - 30/08/2012 23:26

I currently have a non turbo Coupe, and to be honest It's got plenty of poke and ability to stick to the tar rivers.
But someone made a Turbo! so I need one, I can't believe how little they are selling for on fleabay? but I never seem to have the money at the time, so I'm going to have to stop looking until I've sold some stuff to fund my desires.
My question is - should I buy the 5 speed or the 6? I'm assuming the final gear is 1:1? on both. so does it warrant the extra dosh for an extra gear?

The six speeders have all the extra goodies too like push button start and silver dials lick

the gearing between the 2 boxes is virtually the same, the 6th speed has a slightly shorter final drive meaning gears 1 to 5 are slightly lower, 5th for instance on the 5 speed box is 25.2mph per 1000rpm while on the 6 speed box it's about 24.5mph per 1000rpm, 6th gear is about 27.5mph per 1000rpm so it's slightly more relaxed at motorway speeds

having the 6 speed box does make the car more desireable though so if you can find one with that box then go for it

if you want the exact ratio's for each i can dig them up for you, just let me know

Obviously only Plus', 6's and LE's came with the 6 sp box....

Thanks for that, Can't afford the plus or the LE just yet.
I must admit when a plus sells for two grand and a std 20vt sells for £800 (general Ebay) I can't really see the benefit other than provenance? I know there are differences but I can buy them for much less else where.
I can't get my head around the red seats fitted to the LE they look too much even in the red car.
But that's just my opinion.
