16VT on MAHA LPS3000 - 17/03/2013 22:46

Hello Coupe owners,

Saturday I have put my 16VT on a MAHA LPS3000.
I'm pretty happy with the result. But a little low on hp.

Specs off the car:
I have a rebuild forged engine
T34 50trim stage 2 .63 A/R turbine
500cc injectors
stage 3 map (all from dink running 1.2bar on the road) but 1.1bar on the dyno
2.75 inch downpipe
2.25 inch cat back
FMIC

And supporting mods. So this is my result and is it any good??
260bhp from 5000rpm to 6000rpm and 200+ whp from 4700rpm. Max torqua 382NM at 3660rpm.
He did the dynorun in 5th gear?! Look on the print maximum rpm: 6055rpm / 228.7km/h.

Hi. 260 bhp / 281 lbsft (382Nm) at 1.1 is spot on with those mods. Be happy! You should be able to make just under 300 bhp @ 1.4 bar.

If you're still planning on buying performance cams and giving me a visit sometime in the future then we can make some proper power laugh
In the meantime, the power/torque you're making is right so don't fret!

Good to see it's all running smooth and you've finally got it on the dyno!!
The result...... I'd have expected a little more if I'm honest, although your BB turbo is spinning up really early creating good early torque which is what you were after!!

For a comparison I went on maha dyno around 5 years ago, spec was same as now ALTHOUGH car was completely un mapped with 630 injectors In place and running a tiny T3 super 60.48 at 1.3 bar.... Result was 265bhp & 255 ft lb

Then had car mapped, not knowing. I'd already done massive damage to engine, it then made 305 bhp & 286 ft lb..... Obviously I'd fried the engine just chucking 630 injectors in the mix... Knob... Knew foook all about engines back then though!

Your turbo is not even breaking sweat at 1.1 bar, at 1.4 you SHOULD be making at the very least 320 in my opinion, and about 380-390 with around 1.7 bar.

Your cams, or cam timing maybe holding power back a little? But at 1.1 bar with that turbo and a freshly rebuilt engine I thought you'd have been nudging 300 bhp?!

Shouldn't dyno run been done in 4th??

Dyno can be run in any gear. The operator can choose the gear to suit the dyno.

Result is good for the boost and RPM used however there is a lot more potential there. The engine and turbo should be good for higher RPM and a lot more more power. The torque is falling off after 5000 rpm which is costing you a lot of top end power. The exhaust is a little on the small side, maybe causing a problem. Some cam work maybe needed to get better torque over 5000 rpm.

^^Yep, as above.^^

One of the things I'm always banging on about with 16VTs is the importance of cams and cam timing. Stock 16VT cams are great for torque but lousy for making power. RPM at peak power is far too low; around 5k.
At 1.1 bar, 260 bhp is spot on. As long as you have stock cams and stock cam timing you won't make significantly more power, no matter what other changes you make.

Thanks all for your knowledge!

I know I need new cams. But because the rebuild has cost me that much money there is not enough left for new cams! So that is on top off the list! That's why I stil drive with low boost between 1.1-1.2bar. To not wreck those old cams even though they stil look fine!

Also I reed that a MAHA dyno makes 10% less power then a Dastek or Dyno dynamics?! If that is tru then I have reached my goals off 280bhp and 420NM. Thats more how it feels on the road too. On the road power never tails off above 5000 or so.

Now i am confused because fist I wanted medium cams. But now I see this result I think maybe max fast road is better for my. And I have seen the spec off Cat Cams road and they have exactly the spec I want. So there is a good chance I will go for Cat Cams because not very much people use them and the spec looks good for what I want!

Beste regards

When the cams are in I can turn the boost up to 1.5bar with boostcontroller. This dink stage3 chip is programmed untill 1.5bar. But to be sure everything is good (already have wideband) and make the most out off the set up, I want a live map for 1.5bar.

So got to make the trip too the UK wink

Re: 16VT on MAHA LPS3000 - 18/03/2013 14:18

Cams completely change the nature of the engine; ignition timing, fuel requirements, etc. The Dink chip wouldn't work at all well. So don't wind the boost up - I'll do that when the time comes! I look forward to it!

Thank you again.

If I stay off boost can i drive it to the UK with new cams? This is only chip I have for this set up so...

Yes, Peak torque and above is where you are going to do damage. So keep below 4500 rpm and you are unlikely to do damage.

Re: 16VT on MAHA LPS3000 - 19/03/2013 17:45

I am going to install a HDI boostcontroller and turn the boost up to 1.4bar for track days. And in the mean time save money for new cams...

Fuelling and afr is fine now and this chip is programmed up to 1.5bar so should be fine above 1.1or 1.2bar!

Then I could or should make close too 300bhp and 300lbs ft...
After raising boost, one last dynorun to see what sort off improvement that will give power/torqua wise etc. etc.

Re: 16VT on MAHA LPS3000 - 27/05/2013 14:58

I found the issue why I was down on power. Had 2 boost leaks. Thats why it never reached 1.2bar. Thought it was actuator first smile

After i fixed one off the leaks, there was so much pressure in there that one hose kept blowing off if boost was above 1bar. Didn't do that before. Now its all fixed car has more power. Think it has 300bhp with 1.2bar.

At some time I will get it on the dyno to see improvement and real/final result on paper. One run with 1.2bar another one with 1.4 for track use.

kind regards
Michael
