Perfect Touch Dyno day

Posted By: Nigel

Perfect Touch Dyno day - 12/11/2006 00:28

Right - I've finally got my car sorted at Perfect Touch - time to thank the guys there by sorting out a dyno day.

We need to get 25 cars together - more can be accomodated.

They will do power run(s), with wideband fuelling check, AND det cans AND they will offer advice and guidance for any car that needs it. NOTE - they have now mapped quite a few Coupes and without exception, have found detonation. They have allowed the owner to hear the noise from the det cans to prove the point. It would appear that some other tuners are mapping too close to the limit and not using det cans. If you value you engine, a few quid on an event like this could save you BIG bucks.

I have now had four visits to Perfect Touch and I can honestly say that they deliver the best service I have ever had from a tuning house. They are truly passionate about what they do, and it shows with their attitude towards customers.

Cost will be £35 per car, which given their normal hourly rate is an absolute bargain.

No date yet set - we can do a Saturday OR a Sunday

There will need to be a "payment in advance" system set up as I do not want last minute drop-outs spoiling it and driving up the cost for the rest.

Please register your FIRM interest on this thread please

Thanks

I'm definately interested, but where are Perfect Touch located?

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 12/11/2006 03:14

they are located in hoddesdon, Herts.

ill be having a remap their soon nigel, so whilst ill attend the dyno day i wont need the power run.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 12/11/2006 04:39

I'm interested depending on the cost - would be nice to check the car's still spot on after they mapped it on a nice cold day! (car's been feeling rather quick these last few weeks!

Does it have to be just coops - might know another couple of people that will chip in.

Its 373miles for me one way! Need to check whether i want to or not. Probably looking at £150 on fuel.

Count me in Nigel. Quite a few months since mine was mapped @ PTS so worth doing for safety's sake as you say

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 13/11/2006 20:29

can they do fuelling checks at the same time or is this just a power run.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 13/11/2006 20:41

yes. lazy git you obviously didnt read the original post.

the clue was here "They will do power run(s), with wideband fuelling check, AND det cans AND they will offer advice and guidance for any car that needs it."

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 13/11/2006 20:48

hehe, well ok then. You'd have to be Sherlock Holmes to catch that kind of subtle hint.

Then i'm very interested, date dependent (unless thats mentioned already).

If its the second week of december then yup! otherwise i'll need to confirm.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 15/11/2006 05:51

I'm quite interested in coming along to this as it's only down the road from where i live. My only question is is it worth me going as i'm running a standard coupe except for a Supersprint exhaust. Would there be any point and would i see any change in the way the Coupe is running etc?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 15/11/2006 17:24

Is this only open to coupe's or can i bring the punto that has a coupe lump in?

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 20/11/2006 03:51

I'm very interested in coming to this and would prefer a Sunday in January, but is 25 cars not a bit optimistic?

Latest RR day i went to it took 20 minutes each car on average maybe more, thats not including fuelling!

Say 30 minutes each car on average, times that by 25, works out over 12 hours!

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 21/11/2006 14:05

I'll come along, it'll take a couple of hours to get there but well worth it for that discount!! Don't mind if it's Sat or Sun or Dec or Jan, only time I can't do it is Sunday 14th Jan.

That's a huge discount, will the price go up much if you don't get 25 cars?!

that's the point i was making, it's not the actual runs that take the time. it's organising everybody to get their cars ready and getting the cars on and off the rollers!

Any more news as to the possible dates?!
Posted By: Nigel

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 30/11/2006 21:48

I hadn't checked this thread for a while

List so far is:

DennisK
Suba
Elder81
Yellafella
Truffle
Sean_C
DrFrag
Strike4A
Meado
TheBeast
Sugerbear
Ben20vt
PaulR20vt
Paul_20vt
Longusta
Eldinho
Mark_K

Plus me = 17

We need a few more (20+ preferably)

I'm going to make a decision and say that its going to be a Saturday in January. It lets everyone get over the Xmas spend and gives something to look forward to in the New Year.

Subject to confirmation with Perfect Touch, I'm going to go for 13th or 20th.

Remember, PT will require deposits from everyone - this is not like some other dyno days where you can just turn up. Also, its not like other days where you can SAY you're going to turn up and then not bother 'cos you got bladdered the night before

A lot of work goes into organising this, and the price is dependent on a certain number of people attending. If a few drop out, the price WILL go up for the ones that bothered to attend, and I don't suppose they will be too happy.

Any more takers?

In the light of Nigel's Unichip being found to be wired incorrectly, as identified by PT, perhaps they could have a quick look at the wiring of those others of us who had a Unichip installed by PTS *just in case* for an extra few quid, around the power runs?

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 21/12/2006 17:41

OK - the date for this is being put back a bit, due to the FCCUK Xmas/New year bash and PT's diary being a bit busy

Now looking at either 27 or 28 January

Does this affect any of the list?

Posted By: Nigel

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 08/01/2007 03:02

BUMP!

ten is NOT enough - I'll have to cancel if we can't absolutely guarantee a minimum of fifteen cars.

its either that or the price will have to rise, which I don't want to do.

So c'mon - all you owners with a handful of mods - G-tec, exhaust, filter etc - you SURELY want to know everything's running OK and of course, there's the bragging rights when the power is PROVEN to be good

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 08/01/2007 06:23

So what is the cost currently? is that confirmed as £35?

I will check what i have on around that time and get back to you.. sorry i havent done sooner.

Seems pointless me doing it as i have another engine and turbo in the pipeline but would nice to get a figure on the current set up just to know.

Also are dirty jap cars allowee as i have a friend with a 200sx that might be interested?
Posted By: Nigel

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 08/01/2007 13:32

£35 is the current figure - may rise if we can't get 15 or more

As we're struggling, I'm happy to extend this to "invited cars" like 200SXs - the Coupe forum and 200SX forum have always got on particularly well

Does anyone have any contact details? Haven't seen Kev around for ages

I want to go to this so much
Posted By: Nigel

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 08/01/2007 18:12

eldinho - PT have sugested that I consider moving it to Sunday. I'm not keen, on the basis that many people will have made arrangements. However, it MIGHT just allow a few more to attend, so here goes with two simple questions:

1) If I move to Sunday, who out of the list of definites would have to drop out?

2) If I move to Sunday, who else would (definitely) be able to make it?

As I've said, I'm disinclined to muck around the people that have committed, but let's see what happens.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 09/01/2007 04:39

if this ends up being on the sunday, looks like there will be a few 16vt's there

you aren't going to embarrass me are you , what mods have you got truffle and pfoe???
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 09/01/2007 06:02

by then i SHOULD have my 3" full exhaust system with Decat, and the Pro Alloy FMIC and Straight Induction all installed.

At the moment i'm undecided as to whether or not i should get the 3 bar FPR installed BEFORE the RR day, or see the results and possibly install it AFTER.

My worries are that i'll be cronically underfueled with my new mods without the FPR and the trip to the RR will affectely be a waste. Or that i put it in and then go for the RR and find i'm over fuelling and didnt need to put it in anyway.

What do people think?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 09/01/2007 16:16

i'm guessing you've got the evochip aswell then!

also its better to be fuelling rich than lean!

your power should be quite close to mine! last rr i went on i got 230bhp/267lbs, but my downpipe flexi was blowing so lost a bit of power.since then i've had my downpipe upgraded and my turbo upgraded to a T3 Super 60.

I'm getting a FMIC and SIP soon but don't think it will be done in time for this!

anyway, i don't even know i'm going yet as it might still be on the saturday!

Cheers for the Pm,.. have been very very busy these last few weeks.

Unfortuantely I can't do the 27/28th, away that whole weekend, could have done the weekend before, but with my clutch slipping above 1.1 bar, it would have made a very interesting power graph!!

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 10/01/2007 16:02

Joe - what's up - you're losing the plot - 28th is AGES away - plenty of time for a new clutch.

And since when did you let prior engagements get in the way of a power run?

Shame you can't make it - I'm sure there will be other days

Maybe our next encounter will be on track - I'll turn my boost down a bit to give you a chance

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 11/01/2007 19:39

Its currently heading for cancellation

I need 15 runners.

Let's assume that Suba will be OK with Sunday and that we change from Saturday - that will get eldinho in and make it up to 12 Coupes

I could do with us all stimulating some more interest - do we know any other local Coupe owners that can be "persuaded" that they need to see what their car is doing

I'll also call Suba tonight and get him to make a post. He was away skiing last I heard from him.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 12/01/2007 14:07

OK - as a teaser for all the possible runners - I will provide FREE OF CHARGE a diagnostic code reader session for each car before it goes on the rollers.

This will check everything on the ECU - air and water temps, AFR, sensor readings and MOST importantly, throttle butterfly angle. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you're getting as close to the max of 84 degrees as possible?

Many cars have found a large chunk of horsepower simply by correct adjustment of the throttle cable. The worst I've seen was about 65 degrees - the owner reported that the car felt completely different afterwards - probably about 30bhp "found" and of course, totally free!

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 13/01/2007 15:05

I prefer the Saturday - what sort of time were you thinking on Sunday?
Posted By: Nigel

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 13/01/2007 18:18

OK - I'm going to have to make a decision - I'm changing to Sunday. It looks like most, if not all of the original attendees can make it on that day, plus one or two that couldn't do Saturday

Time will be most of the day.

I expect things will get going at 9:30 - 10:00, with cars on every 20 - 30 minutes max

I need to establish a running order - I'll be there from first thing - I'll devise a spreadsheet to record all the data.

We'll also have to establish some parking / vehicle moving system - Perfect Touch's workshop is long and thin, with the dyno cell at the very back - one car will need to be ready, warmed up outside the workshop to drive onto the rollers as soon as the previous car comes out. there's certainly not enough room on their carpark for all the cars.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 13/01/2007 19:08

Glad to hear that this now looks like going ahead \:\)

I will aim to get there for around 10am and probably stick around until about 3pm, so would prefer a slot between 10.30am and 1.30pm, if possible.

Nigel - I should have all the bits for my ACR by then, so could possibly help out with the code reading, if you like. It would be useful for me anyway, as I would like to understand how to use it properly, and this looks like an ideal opportunity \:D !

Kevin - you're on the list

elder81 - Perfect Touch must be paid before the event - I'll be posting payment details in the next day or two

I need to get the 15 minimum in order to secure the event (so I'd much prefer if you could confirm earlier, rather than later. However, once 15 have paid up, you should be able to tag on at short notice.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 18/01/2007 20:28

PAYMENT DETAILS

Slight change to the original published cost - I'm hopeful that this won't make a difference. The original cost of £35 per car was based on 25 cars. It looks pretty certain we're not going to get 25 cars - 15 or so looks to be the figure.

I've just spent a few minutes doing a deal with Claudio to keep the cost to £40 per car.

I hope that the extra fiver isn't going to make a difference to anyone - I can't believe it will, so as far as I'm concerned, we're going ahead. Now fully confirmed as Sunday 28th January starting at about 9:30am.

The only concession I've had to make to secure the rate of £40 per car is that to save Claudio a bit of time and effort, I will be collecting the money in advance.

There will be no paying on the day - all payments MUST be in advance. If you fail to turn up, you lose your £40. If you can't turn up, you can always "sell" your place to another owner.

I can't be bothered to PM everyone with payment details, so I'll post here. Maybe some Nigerian scammer will try and send me a cheque for £5,000 and get me to give the excess to his "agent", but I can handle them.

Please make your £40 payment using online transfer to:

Mr N P Ogram - Forum Account
Nat West A/C No 32150172
Sort code 53-70-15

Please make it OBVIOUS who its from - state your forum name.

THEN - please PM me to confirm you've made payment so I can cross people off the list.

I'll be knocking a spreadsheet together to record all the runs and collate the results into some kind of a graph

Historically, with other FCCUK events, the point where money is requested is where it all goes pear-shaped and previously "confirmed" attendees drop like flies.

If more than one or two drop out, there will be only two options available to me:

1) Cancel
2) increase the cost per car

I don't want to do either.

Finally - I'll be putting together a basic running order soon - watch this space.

Time to throw this open to our other forum friends - if anyone from the usual suspect clubs (200SX, GTV, Scooby, EVO etc) would like to tag along, please let me know ASAP.

Remember that different chassis configurations (RWD, 4WD) will prbably have to tag onto the end of the Coupes to save mucking around with the rollers between runs

We're now on the minimum of 15 - any more drop-outs means this will either cost more, or it will be cancelled. Not chuffed with the prospect of either event, to be honest. If just three more people drop out, the cost would rise to £50 per car, which is on the edge of becoming unrealistic.

I'm not running (don't need to) - I'm already spending £50 on fuel just to organise this - I don't want to be forced to spend another £40 to make up the numbers.

I'll contact Perfect Touch today to see if they will go ahead with eleven runners (maybe ten if Truffle can't make it)

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 25/01/2007 18:29

I've spoken with Claudio and told him that we're looking at ten or eleven runners

I've told him that I've already collected money from people and that increasing to more than £40 really isn't an option

He's crunching a few numbers as I type and will be back to me ASAP

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 26/01/2007 15:06

Right - last chance!!!

This will NOT be going ahead with the current number of runners.

Looking back over this thread, there are two people that CONFIRMED attendance and have not been in touch since.

There are also seven other people that expressed interest and have not followed it up with a confirmation either way.

Normally, Perfect Touch ask for an up-front, non-refundable deposit from the organiser (me). However, going by the very good reception Perfect Touch have been getting, Claudio allowed me to pay on the day. Claudio has comitted resource to this - he and Rob have made family arrangements to work for the day and of course it costs a good few quid to open up the workshop, run the dyno cell etc.

I have to let Claudio know by 1:00pm today whether we have the numbers - so here's the ultimatum:

Unless we get three more in the next three hours, this event is cancelled.

On the assmuption that its taken a month to get ten runners, I'm not too hopeful, but you never know.

If its cancelled, I'll get in touch with everyone to arrange refunds.

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 26/01/2007 17:24

well i'm a deffo no for this, RE my other thread (another unlucky coupe...) i still have no rear windscreen and cant get above 40mph without 'consequences' so no motorway driving for me.

Ive had to cancel a vist to see my parents as well \:\(

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 26/01/2007 17:37

Paul - thanks for the offer - its much appreciated.

However, the bottom line for this event was that PT needed £600 to warrant opening their workshop, firing up the dyno cell and associated gubbins and employing two or more staff to handle the activity.

With ten runners, we're looking at £60 each, which is simply not acceptable.

25 minutes left - this isn't going to happen \:\(

Re: Perfect Touch Dyno day - 26/01/2007 18:26

Thanks for the offers chaps, but I've had to make a decision.

This is now cancelled \:\( \:\( \:\( \:\(

There are two things I need to do:

1) I MUST make sure that everyone knows not to turn up on Sunday, so could all people that have paid, please PM me to say they have seen that its been cancelled - I'd hate for someone to travel all the way to Perfect Touch only to find it deserted.

2) Refunds - I have a bank statement with 10 entries of £40 on it and other than "P SAMMS", I don't know which belongs to which. I know two of you have paid over the counter at a bank branch (all I have is 24-41-00 and 60-20-36 - I assume you'll each be able to tell me who these were) Please PM me with your bank details (account number, sort code and account name) and I'll transfer the money back over the weekend. Lets see - £400 in my account over a period of six days at 1% per annum - wohooo! I've made 6.5p interest

I'm gutted - I always knew there would be a few unavoidable drop-outs, but from a very promising start, we ended up with less than half the original number of "V. interested"

Thanks to everyone who confirmed early and paid up. Sorry it couldn't happen.

Thanks to Nigel for all his efforts in trying to sort this, and also to Rob and Claudio for rearranging their weekend around us (hope they manage to enjoy a Coupe free Sunday ;\) ). Let's hope they will be as accommodating if we try to arrange another day with them later in the year!
