1/4m times / Crail last Sun - 06/03/2007 02:43

Took my car up to Crail yesterday for the 1st time in 6 months and 1st time in its current state of tune.

To those that don't know Crail is located just outside of St Andrews right on the coast. Its a WWI airbase and a protected site (which means no upgrading allowed). Think Elvington with a lot less grip lol.

It had been raining all night, but was dry and VERY cold in the morning. This meant the track wasn't wet, but wasn't dry. In other words FCCUKing greasy. I was spinning Toyo R888s in 1st and 2nd!

Launching was a nitemare and i was beginning to get the car set up right when some muppet decided to cover the start line in water. \:\/

As I didn't expect to run quick times and was up to experiment I ran all day with a passenger and full interior.

So times make interesting reading...

(60ft)(1/8m TV)(1/8m)(1/4m TV)(ET)
2.924 81.20 10.233 107.4 14.872
2.780 80.80 10.164 107.9 14.773
2.983 78.50 10.328 105.6 14.894
2.736 79.80 10.157 108.4 14.679
2.580 81.20 9.505 110.3 13.974
2.862 86.50 9.819 107.4 14.311

The 1st runs were at peak 1.6 bar. For the last 2 I had upped it 0.1, but could only run full boost in 3rd + 4th. The 2nd last run I had turned the duty right down in 1st which helped the wheel spin, but for the last run I had the same settings, but a wet start line.

Now compare to a bog standard coupe running at crail on a DRY track:

2.292 97.0 14.408
2.519 97.6 15.070

A standard coupe should do a standing 1/4 in aprox 14.4.

Now compare the 60ft times and how they impact on the ETs. Scary ain't it! Goes to show how lucky everyone down south is to have a nice grippy surface to launch off...

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say that in the current state of tune my car will be running 12s at Crail once I can get the launch sorted. (Thats down to me setting the car up right and then actually driving it right lol).

Who knows whats possible if I turned the boost right up and added traction / launch control + stripped her right out ;\)

Those 60ft times are worse than a non-turbo car - have you thought of just running base boost in 1st and 2nd to overcome it?
I had similar problems at York as it was wet, but managed a 2s 60ft with base boost in the end with Yoko A048Rs on. Think I did a 13.3 in the end as I ran base boost in all gears \:D

Fergie I think you ran the 13s q/m against me in my C2 GT. I now I had problems with launch tyres spinning. That coupe is fast once u got traction the coupe pulled away from me like my car vs a 1.1 lol thats why i want a coupe again.

Hi m8, Yeah blue one?

Think I've got about 3.5 times the power of the GT lmao. I'm Cambuslang if you'd like to see the car sometime

Hopefully next time up I'll be running 12s / low 13s if I get the launch better and they don't soak the start line

Well my Gt runs about 135bhp with mods but it is lethargic after 60mhp. you should get in 12s with the terminal speed of 110mph if launch is better. I used to have a green 16vturbo in eastkilb. I remember speaking to u at strathy , The night my 16vt went bang did u stop to help? Im going to get a 20vt in about 2 months want a good 1 though so if you could help me see 1 as u will probably know more on the 20vt than me ure help would be much apreciated.

Don't think I saw it when it went bang. Only when you had just got it down the Holiday Inn carpark.

Yeah, may be up at crail again this Sun if the weather is ok...

What are normal 1/8 mile figures for a standard coupe and then a tuned one? I have around 400 hp in my 20vt and went 3 weeks ago to try the 1/8 mile but was horrible with the launch and too much wheelspin etc... Best time was 9.299, std tyres and only 0,9 bar boost, but i guess looking at your stats not bad at all as i thought?
