Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 24/06/2009 21:51

i ran 13.9 at 249.6 bhp stage 1 its hard to get into 13s cuz its soooo hard to launch at pod, my coupes at a bodyshop at the minute so im not sure if I will come but maybe, looking forward to see marco's time.
Marco is your coupe more than 250.4 yet?
Posted By: Nigel

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 25/06/2009 08:08

With 260bhp, anything in the 13's is a good time, but its ALL in the launch, which is far more difficult than you would think.

There is lots of traction at Santa Pod, but a turbo FWD car will still break traction easily, so you have to get the launch just right - 3,000 - 4,000rpm, lift the clutch quite hard, don't let the revs bog down, but don't let the revs flare up either, moderate the throttle to keep traction and once you've got past the first 100 feet or so, its simply flat out all the way to the line. If you're brave, you'll still be in third gear, but very close to the redline

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 25/06/2009 08:16

Nigel your like a mind reader!!!
i was going to say ive been messing around with remp to launch at and found being a little brutal dont really hurt to much and at bang on 3500rpm you can get a 90% perfect launch!

found 4000rpm was a strain on my neck!!

Boostmecoupeup, havent done nothing to the car since the rr session so she is still at 250.4
looking forward to seeing every one there!

i have one question for the pro's...
what tyre pressure do you run on the 1/4mile?
Posted By: Nigel

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 25/06/2009 10:02

Originally Posted By: Marco20valveT

It depends a lot on the make of tyre (some have much softer sidewalls)

On my last runs at Santa Pod, I was down to about 22psi - this hurts the terminal speed, but it helps the launch
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 25/06/2009 17:37

wow 22psi!!!

i drive around on 32psi so i think i will try different psi settings and see what works the best!

must remind my self to bring a pump lol

terminal speed dont really bother me, mess the launch up and you have ruined a run! (imo)
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 25/06/2009 20:18

i did one run on 15 psi found 20 on the front is best for me but iv got low pros on 18s

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 02/07/2009 12:53

13.7 is a good time for a 24obhp Coupe. The best I managed a few weeks back was 13.3 and that was with 416bhp, but with a boost leak as the pipe burst!

I hate to think what much more than 400bhp will be like to launch on road tyres. It will be down to the technique more than the power of the car I think, and my technique is crap!

Is anyone going to be using track tyres this Saturday?

Dont forget everyone that Jasons figures will be well short of what would be possible on a colder day. Ambient was well over 30 degrees yesterday and I believe Jason was seeing intake temps up to 70 degrees shocked

Mine is in for a final bit of tweeking today, but mostly for cold (!?) running and idle. I'm not expecting anything great on power.

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 04/07/2009 16:29

Sounds like it was a good day, really pleased for West as he's been through the mill with his car the last few months. He managed two 12.7s and two 12.9s running just 1.6bar on road tyres, good to see it's a consistent 12 second car. I know he's not 100% happy though as the elusive tenths are as always left out on the strip.

Not sure how everyone else got on today although I think the second best time of the day was 13.5 by either TurboJ or Squid. I believe there is some good video of the day including a couple of coupe head to heads smile

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 04/07/2009 16:46

just got back and i am burnt and i finished the day with a 12.9 with a boost leak peaking 1.4bar and dropping off really quick, turboj is still there trying to crack a 12,bare in mind its his first time running at santa pod,but is times are getting quicker

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 04/07/2009 17:23

just got back from pod, didnt go in the coupe as its wrote off as you may know, seen a few good runs, spoke to westcoupe, good times by the way gt30 serious turbo.

Didnt see marco run-- did he?

oh and the ink black put in a good run im sure I saw a 13.6 and the same time for the Bravo, what set up are they running?
The red coupe was nice who's is that? im still looking for 1

oh and I saw a coupe SPANK a 3.0 gtv 24v it ran a 16.0 and a 15.7 not in the same leauge as a 20vt.
e46 m3 hard top loadsa runs best time 13.9 and the convertable best i saw was 14.0, so slower than mine who was it who said im a deluded liar if I say I kept up with an e46 M3 in my stage 1 coupe, a muppet springs to mind.

I think the ink black is Steve_G on here, a GT28R which I mapped back in April. If it is good to see it putting in a nice time, the Bravo is TurboJ with a GT2871R. No idea on the red coupe.

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 04/07/2009 18:47

The 1/4 mile is all about the launch for the ET. This is where RWD ad 4WD have a big advantage over FWD. That said, the terminals give a very good indication of a cars power and are fairly immune to a poor launch, so you can get an idea of how the time is being made. I'm sure the 135i isn't seeing too much over 100mph.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 04/07/2009 18:55

I didn't see the 135i run, id expect it to be around 99-101 in 13.5 seconds, the e46 was running 13.9 - 14.3 at between 99-103
my coupe ran 13.9 at 102 and a few 14.0 between 101-103 before I fitted my blueflame and I cant launch as well as a rwd car, i want my coupe back, I should of bought the salvage back.

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 04/07/2009 19:21

I think its best run was 13.274 @ 106 though I can't be absolutely sure
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 04/07/2009 19:33

Ok just got back and the best time I could manage was a 13.4096 @ 107MPH. The only way to get the time down was to find a balance in boost pressure vs wheel spin vs full traction power. I am just wheel spinning most of the way. frown All of my 8 times were in the 13’s today except my first run where I blew a boost pipe and managed a 16 laugh.

I have noticed a few things that could really improve my time:
1) Falkon Ziex camber tyres don't grip 205/40/17
2) Couldn’t adjust tyre pressures as I can't take off my valve locks so I ran 32 psi instead of 24 ish
3) I need the addon for my blitz to control boost in every gear.
4) It’s all about the launch wink

Since this was my first ever run I can now take these points on board for next time. My target at the beginning of the day was a 13.2 so I guess that wasn’t bad for a pod virgin.

Westerns car was fully stripped out. I mean fully to the point where he took the bolts that hold on the alarm on, off laugh . He has good Toyo tyres @ 24 psi and with boost gear control with 420BHP. 12.7 was an excellent time but I think with a few tinkers here and there and some r888's flea's 11.94 might be up for a challenge, so well done to him 2day.

Squid leaft very early due to other commitments and only done a few runs. I’m sure he will be on here to give his details later.

Steve_G ran r888’s and a few other tricks to get a 13.8 wink I’m sure he will be on here later to give his story too.

We got some good HD vid footage so when it gets edited i’ll post it up.

Here is my time slip:

That's a lot faster than factory figures, although a remap would be on the cards.

How's your car going Maria after the remap, still enjoying the extra oomph? smile

Really love my car that little extra torque low down makes a big difference still was not brave enough to have a run today, maybe next time. Oh and you'll be pleased to know I no longer have killer brakes laugh

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 05/07/2009 00:34

all over quite a good day. A bit gutted about my times. Only ran 3 times and best run was a 14.2 gave up trying after my 3rd go. Didnt want to push my car with out more supporting mods.
Thinking getting a few bits done next month and go see flea to get a brilliant map sorted! Then i hope to get mid 13's lol

There where some mental coupes, westerns was mental!
Got a few videos so i will upload them soon!

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 05/07/2009 09:33

Marco I couldn't get lower than 14.2 with the std 16s on with our power, when I put my 18s on I got more grip and my 1st run was 13.9 so maybe you couldn't get the power down its all about the launch, I bet ur terminals were still over 100? Also did you try letting your front tyres down?

no, i didnt touch my fronts just left the car as it is! After watching the video clips i noticed that it was a traction issue. So i getting so toyo r888 and spare alloys to use at pod and keep them on low psi!

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 05/07/2009 11:15

im in cyprus 15-30th july so if its not in them dates then yes.
i missed your runs cuz i thought it was today, i saw your car parked next to a red 20vt though. I thought u might crack into 13s u defo will with r888s that will sort it, also I had slightly uprated suspesion so it wont lift up as much at the front so maybe that helped because yours actually put out an extra 1bhp than mine didnt it so theres no reason you cant get mid 13s also im sure you put out a few extra tourqes.
is usc on the dates im away then, if uv not got your r888s by then we will let your pressure down, run low fuel under a quater, even could empty your washer fluid and get your spare wheel out, thats what I did. Maybe a octane booster ul give you that extra tiny bit you need.

i found my boost leak today,i have split one of the rubber doughnuts inbetween the the plenum and inlet and it is split about an inch going round and i still managed to pull a 12.9 with the leak with the boost peaking 1.4bar and dropping off rapidly

Split doughnuts seems to be quite common now

I had a huge split in one of mine too

can you not swap rubber doughnut on the inlet manifold for like samco hoses? will that not make them stonger or do they have to be a certain design?

Hi Leighton,

The 135i would have been running a map so his terminals should be between 106-108mph, this is what I've typically seen on this model. I've seen a 135i run sub 13 seconds (12.7!!) so either this one has a normal remap pushing about 360-370bhp or he's running a strong map at 390bhp+ but is a bit inexperienced so not quite getting the times. My ex mapped 335d did a best of 13.2 at 107mph, quicker than a couple of manual E92 M3's but slower than a DCT equipped E92 M3, they posted 13.5 and 12.7 secs respectively.

You can't directly swap the doughnuts for a short length of samco - the doughnuts have a thick lip inside them that bridge the gap between the plenum and the manifold. There are ways of getting around it - and I've been planning on removing a lip from the inlet manifold to the gap is flush. This also means moving the plenum to manifold brackets though.

Well we had a HD camera with proper quality. One of the vids is so funny. You see West and Squid line up and west boosts off, Squid is just sitting there popping the launch control, the joys of wearing sandals for racing laugh

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 08/07/2009 12:25

Evan worse than that on the next run. I was lined up next to TurboJ when I was being told off like a naughty school boy by the woman on the line for doing a burn out too close to the start line when the light goes green and Jason shoots off. 2 seconds later she finishes having a go at me and off I trundle....

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 08/07/2009 12:29

So what was your best time of the day Squid and terminal?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 08/07/2009 14:43

My best time was 13.5 @111. However, I did not manage to beat my performance the first time round where I got 13.3 @113.

I was playing with different launch techniques on Saturday. I tried the launch control once, but it was the first time I had used it and I think it was the second slowest time I did!

I was still running with the spare wheel, jack tools and loads of assorted junk in the car as I forgot to take it all out. I was in a bit of a hurry as I had to get back home by lunch time. I don't fancy ripping out all the trim etc from the car as it is likely to get messed up.

My front tyres are not at their best now, so I think I will get a spare set of rims and buy a set of R888's. That should help.

However, the Coupe is not really cut out to be a drag car, it is much better on a propper track day where it can really use the power.

so basicly what your trying to say there's room for improvment and a better 1/4 mile time ;-) car looks like it's going well congrats same goes for the rest of you there! Squids car seemed like it was wheel spinning alot off the line, but as he said street tyres and full interior. Well done to all of you putting in some good 1/4 mile times.

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 10/07/2009 08:07

im changing around 6.5k as i said, this was the first time ive ever run the 1/4

launches were nearly spot on so im not sure,,what terminal where you doing??

obn my 14.2 run it was a terminal of 97mph
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 10/07/2009 08:57

terminals were all over 100, 13.92 was 102 i did a few 14.0 at 103 i did a 14.5 at 104 my average was 14.1 or 14.2 at 102.
are u changing into 4th as u cross the line, im at the end of 3rd.

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 10/07/2009 09:17

i think i was mate!
cant remember!

i thin i was short shifting from 2nd to 3rd...

thats where im losing my mph, also, i remember my gear changing not being as quick as normal.

oh well, there is next time where i will do it better, strip it out and adjust the tyre pressure's ect

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 10/07/2009 09:31

iv just bought a sprint blue its just over 300 bhp but wont have a chance of getting into 13s because the gearchange is so slow and sloppy like stiring coal im trying to sort it out, if ur gearchanges arnt good at the redline it will hamper the terminal.
i doubt id get this new one over the line in low 14s because its not right yet but il get it sorted.

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 10/07/2009 09:33

Re: Sant pod Sat 4th july 2009 - 10/07/2009 09:36

black 1s dead, I miss it it was just right not too powerfull a nice blend.
