New north west RR day 31st Oct

New north west RR day 31st Oct - 14/09/2009 15:14

Hi all.

I'm looking to organise another North West Rolling Road Day. For the relative newcomers on here, we've run a few of these in the past and they've been successful, albeit with a few surprises (both nice and not so nice).
Our last outing was at our usual location of Dyno Demon in Neston, Wirral. This threw up a few irregularities so we agreed to find another location for a "compare and contrast" session.
we will be haveing it here Ric Wood Motorsport;

http://www.ricwood.com/aboutus.html

This guy has excellent reviews and perhaps more importantly for us, a set of Dastek Rollers.

Cost £35 per car. For this, you'll get 3 "Power Runs" and 2 full colour charts, plotting BHP, Torque and Fuelling.

Due to the cancellation last time, I'll need a £10 non-refundable deposit through PayPal to show your commitment.

to get this price i need ten cars so please stick your names down now,if i dont get ten car buy friday there will be no rr also the date will be the 31oct

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 24/09/2009 09:27

This might sound really daft as I've never been to a RR before...but is it possible to have the car tested, then fit my Powertek chip to see the difference then decide by the third run whether to keep it on?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 24/09/2009 10:08

You should communicate that with the RR-guys, but if you make easy access to the ECU id suppose its no problemo!

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 26/09/2009 12:04

I've never been to one before...but if I manage to get the Gtec before we go, I intend on running it standard, then with the chip - to see the results. If thats going to be possible.
Posted By: cowboy

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 26/09/2009 16:13

that might not be a good idea,as you need to run it a few miles for the chip to set in,i might be wrong

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 26/09/2009 19:33

Oh right ok. Well that's kinda good news as well - means I can fit it the minute it arrives and not have to wait tongue

Thinking about it...that would be better as the ECU will be used to the chip and I'll (hopefully) get a decent reading on the rollers to see if its over / under fueling.

There is a good bit of interest from the Renaultsport club so i think we may have around 15 cars going now. Including clios, meganes and a monaro i think

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 09/10/2009 09:48

Ok, there are currently 8 people from the renault forum coming! I have told them that is the maximum number. I didn't think that there would be so much interest from their side! So it looks like their is only 1 or 2 places left!
Sorry if i have stepped on anybodys toe's. If anymore coupes put their names down i'll have to ask a renault to drop out.

Remember it helps to have your towing Eye handy although I am sure this should not be a problem for the FCCUK people who are in Coupes as some one must bring one... Helps keep the car still on the RR.

What is the plans for lunch confused Need to prioritise these things!

Hello Everyone,

I've got good news for someone as due to unforseen circumstances I am no longer able to attend this event on Saturday. I'm pretty peeved about it as I've never had the car on a rolling road and would love to know what it can do, but there's nothing I can do about it as the circumstances are beyond my control.

Someone is going to get a fabulous day out for a paltry £35. Good luck to whoever gets my space!

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 01/11/2009 11:11

Was not to bad there were some unfortunate missing coupes though.
I got 200 at the wheels Not sure I believe my peak power number of 250 as it was at more RPM than the max wheel BHP..... not sure how that works. Not a bad torque curve but Cowboy's is worth a look at really good area under it. Sure he will get a scan and be singing Flea's praises soon.

I'll try and get my graph up soon but have to fix my web server firstly.

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 01/11/2009 12:14

start off were the hell was samsite,(end of rant)o and never try and bring a silver coupe to a RR you wont get there missed you both and bad luck matt, all the Renault guys turned up as they said they would and they had some nice figers aswell nice bunch hope they come again, also we had a tour of ric,s place what he is doing in there just blows you away.ill leve flea say if i had a good results our not as i cant figer it out but it do,s look rather good for a hybrid with charge cooler and the car fly,s

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 01/11/2009 20:27

Excellent results Karl, 290bhp+ from 5000-6500rpm. The torque is fantastic at almost 300lbs/ft and it reaches this at 3000rpm holding it all the way to 5000rpm. It's like a standard coupe on massive steroids, it simply does everything better smile
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 01/11/2009 20:33

From seeing the graph on the PC and a talk with Ric (Rick?) the drop then rise in my torque curve coincides with my car going first rich (the dip) the lean. I think you may have a supper-spool cowboy as you come on boost (torque is earlier) than my hybrid and my peak power although down on yours is at more RPM.
Your curve does not drop off as drastic as my one Karl and 250 @ the wheels is nice.

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 04/11/2009 08:51

That's a pretty big boost/torque spike!! Peak torque is showing 277lbs/ft, but the reality it is 240lbs/ft, try cleaning your EBV. Other than that nice solid results.

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 04/11/2009 13:08

Forgive me if this is a daft question...but by cleaning the EBV - what difference would that show/gain?
Posted By: Flea

Re: New north west RR day 31st Oct - 04/11/2009 16:47

It will be the reason why you have a massive boost spike as shown at 3200rpm on your graph. The chip should limit boost to 1.2bar with a small over boost i.e. 1.4bar. Unfortunately the standard EBV can become a little tired resulting in slow response with overboost going up to 1.8bar hence an increase of 37lbs/ft very briefly! Try cleaning with WD40 which can help improve the response time.
