Racing Coupes - 02/11/2010 10:00

Apart from the Drag racing and Sparco in his Coupe, has anyone any info on racing Coupes in the past?
Anyone got any race springs, seats, aka pretty much anything, also any info on anyone that has raced a Coupe (circuit racing)

Thanks

Nigel and sparco are the best bet on here mate!

other than them i dont think may people have done it.

from what ive seen i think a few of the french coupe owners have done a bit of coupe racing.. but im not 100% on that!

I've only played at it - Sparco's efforts are much more professional than mine

His car is a pure track weapon, mine is just a fast everyday road car that has very occasional excursions on the track. Mine is pretty firm on the road but suffers understeer and roll on the track - Sparco's is great on track but would probably be almost unusable on the road

There's lots you can do to a Coupe to make it behave better on the track, but as with any mods, you're always compromising something.

I have mapped a Coupe 20vt which competes in a classic car series, does rather well against the Porsches.

Ah yes i've spoken to that fellow Leighton and gave him some advice. My car is not eligable due to all the extra bits and bobs to make it go round the corners better!!

Yup, they tend to frown upon Batmobile style grappling hooks.

Sparco, maybe you wont let you play because you are too damn fast! (thats usually the reason) I cant compete in the Alfa championship with my production Alfa because it has the wrong bumper!!

Oh, And according to the Knockhill youtube video you call people names when they get in your way .. ;-)

I think there may be a yellow coupe that is track prepared,i have seen it on this forum, possibly from Ireland.
I know the French lads with the track prepared coupes,as do a fair few of us that attend Spaitalia.
The French Blue 16vt owner tells me that his car is now going so well that its his driving that now needs to improve.I was on the track with him in August and he was getting along very nicely.

That's the tourets Alfatim, i really don't mean it honest!

We'll see how we get on in the Scottish Saloons next year, rubbing is racing afterall, i'm sure i'll be well in my element.

Sparco, its your fault I bought a Coupe after watching how quick you were at KH.

Tourets is fine with me btw... Bo deserved it!

I blame Sparco, looking at his coupe and thinking, "I want one" laugh

I'd get the right bumper and race with the alfa. Dont forget the shared platform the fiat is built on, this opens ups a number of other avenues for advice or parts. But its will never be an integra or a escort cosworth so availability of ready to race bits aint so great.

This is one of the biggest problems I'm having, track focused, bolt on performance parts are few and far between for the Coupe.

LiamM I know its a track car, but looks rather blind without the headlights..

Must have cost a fortune to make it track ready though?

Re: Racing Coupes - 26/09/2011 13:16

I must admit that when I got the bonnet and put it on, I wasn't that impressed either, but it's grown on me and i quite like it now, plus it only weights 8 kgs!

As for expense, I suppose its cost me €5k all in (not including the car itself). That's with Gaz gold coilovers, customized K-Sport Subaru Impreza topmounts, OMP braces top and bottom, GT28R turbo with custom exhaust, custom head work, caged and painted inside, GTECH pro X ECU which still needs to be mapped (hoping for circa 300bhp) Seats, harnesses, steering wheel, extinguisher, kill switches, 17" team dynamics wheels, Michelin Slicks. It all adds up!
