Weybridge mini-meet *Now Sunday 19th Feb* - 10/01/2006 02:45

Well Begbie suggested this in the spotting thread and there were a few agreements there, so who's up for a mini meet in the next few weeks? There seem to be quite a few of us in the local area but obviously anyone would be welcome

OK, looks like so far we have

James_H
Begbie
Kenno
JimO
Bockers
Hamster (?)
Rmcfarlane
Petep
Vickster
DaveG (?)

Might as well suggest some possible dates:

Saturday 28 Jan
Sunday 29 Jan
Saturday 04 Feb
Sunday 05 Feb

All are OK for me; anyone got any preferences from these, or any other dates?

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 05:23

What are we thinking of doing for the meet, just trye kicking or meeting in the evening or for a pub lunch or anything else

Sunday 5th is no good for me
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 05:27

Dunno really! Pub lunch sounds like a good idea, plus there must be some good driving routes for a blast before/after

What would people prefer??

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 05:29

James - would be happy for pub and/or blast too. But I canny do the weekend 28/29 as i'm in France then.

There are some nice pubs out in the sticks if we drive Windlesham / Bagshot way

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 07:03

Yes, been discussing this on Chat with DaveG. We will need a pub with a decent sized car part. Rose and Crown in Thorpe is good but not sure about the food.

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 17:22

How about taking a drive down the A3, get off at wisley and head through Ockham, have some food at the pub near the bell and covell (lotus and scooby garage) and go for a bit of a thrash along the dual carriageway nearby?
Posted By: bockers

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 18:42

Begbie I like that idea. On the chatroom last night we discussed a Pub in the Thorpe area as it has a good Car Park Rose & Crown

However although there are some nice roads around that area they are not for fast driving in greasy winter conditions. A convoy down the A3 would look well impressive.

We could meet in the Brooklands area as some of the Business estates next to the Brooklands museum have huge open car parks and some interesting old Brooklands features for good group photo oportunities.

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 19:30

This sounds fun . I'm not working on the 28/29 Jan. I'm nights on the 4/5 but I think I’ll try and make it down if it looks like it's going to be a good turnout , I'll need to be off by 16:15 though .
It might be a good opportunity to have a go on the rolling road up there too. It's not far from were you're meeting is it?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 19:37

A3 run sounds good to me too.

Surrey Rolling Road is indeed close by. There are people going to a RR day there this Saturday. Don't think we could really link it to a meet though as it would take up a lot of time and not everyone would want to go on the rollers
Posted By: bockers

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 19:52

James I was thinking of popping down to have a gander at the roller session anyway (only a mile or so form home)but agree not realy good for the meet. The 5th is still looking lik ethe best day, and you will have you car set up too by them?

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 11/01/2006 20:02

Well we could meet at Tesco's in Byfleet / Brooklands where i would ponce a lift with someone (900cc uno vs coupe's hmmm... yeah right!) and head up to the A3, short trip on there, then down some nice country lanes which takes up to a pub on the corner here Have a bit of food, drink, tyre kicking and a petrol station is opposite, then head right from there (thats left on the map) across the roundabout, i could stand at the side and film you lot hooning past on the DC thats there, turn round at the lights and repeat then turn round again and take another country lane down into Woking / A3

Well hopefully! I will be testing different versions of Gtec II at the RR on Saturday and hopefully one of these will provide safe fuelling. I'm still going for the Unichip as well, although I doubt this will be done by the 5th. As long as one of the Gtecs is OK I'll still be fine for some hooning around (I mean, responsible fast road driving) though

Nice ideas Beggers, looks like we have a plan forming

Cheers James, I can't do the R.R. meet this week as I'll still be in bed by the time it starts. BUT if this meet start at say 13:30 I might be able to jump on the R.R. before meeting up with you chaps .

Edit
I just invited my girlfriends dad along and he reminded me that it's my g/f birthday on the 5 Feb . Best not come as my excuse for not taking her shopping was that I’m on nights .

The pub on the corner is the duke of wellington and looks like it will be able to house a few cars there too

OK steady on, early days yet

How about, meet at 11am at Brooklands for some tyre kicking and photography. Then on to the pub for 12.30 or 1.00 -ish? Not sure how long the drive will be (Begbie?). Then a bit of a drive after lunch as well?

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 13/01/2006 05:08

I could be up for this, but depends upon the date that is decided. I'm not available on 28/29th, but could probably make either the 4/5th. Depending on which day it is, I may have to come in track day trim, as I am at Silverstone on the 10th, and need to get my car prepared over this weekend .

If your thinking of parking in Tesco's on a saturday or sunday you havent got a hope in hell of getting a load of parking spaces together, obviously people haven't got better things to do on a weekend

As for the drive, reckon it would only be about 15 - 20 mins to the pub, although we could change it slightly to make it about half an hour or so
Posted By: bockers

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet?? - 13/01/2006 17:52

For parking I was thinking more of the business estate (Wellington Way) This backs onto the Brooklands Museum and you can get some good shots with the Brooklands Hill climb in the background. Ultra quiet on sunday too.

We mentioned lunch, so might I suggest we meet at 12 - leaves time for photo's, tyre kicking and a cruise to the establishment of choice.

Petep
Vickster
DaveG
Crazycoop
Gumball3000
Emjay
Civic_Legend (?)
Hamster (??)
Suba (?)

Sorry if I missed anyone - let me know.

Meeting somewhere near Brooklands (possibly near Sony just round the corner?) at 12 noon and maybe try and get a few photos. Then a convoy down to the pub at East Horsley (link to map in Begbie's post further up the thread) for some lunch, a natter, and possibly some filming

Then maybe a bit more driving if people are up for it.

So, we just need to finalise the meeting point at/near Brooklands. Needs to have plenty of room and preferably good background for some group photos. I'll go and have a look round tomorrow and see where might be good. If anyone else has any suggestions in the meantime, let's hear them

Spoke to my friend at Brooklands Museum, they are not hosting anything on the 19th and don’t think it will be a problem to let us come in and use the paddock and a section of the banking. - would make for awesome pics, especially if we get a good turnout.

I need to finalise this next week with them, being a museum they may want a small contribution for use of their facilities. Would people be willing to donate a few quid per car for this pretty good opportunity?? (its for a good cause!)

I am probably not going to make this now due to work commitments. If this changes, then I'll be there, but its doubtful

@ Suba, sorry mate, no lift, but it sounds as if you'll have your car back by then anyway. I may be in contact after though for some help with my settings if you're up for a drive one evening

no probs mate - I may have the car back - but wont have run in the engine or had it mapped I might pop along in the MK2 Golf TDI.....the clouds of smoke out the back if I floor it are quite amusing.

Did you get the install on you greddy sorted? Happy to help you setting it up whenever. I'm not far from the M3 so nice and easy for those 4th gear runs.

The car is with Rog on Monday, but I haven't got my greddy yet, it is due tomorrow, hopefully i'll get it in time.

Sorry for not calling you the other day aswell, work was crazy manic I'll be in touch for assistance in setting up tho

All, just in case I can get away from work earlier on Sunday, what are the plans for this?

Metting where and what time?

Then going to what pub when?

I might skip the first meet and drive and just venture to the pub, just like any Sunday really

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet 19th Feb - 15/02/2006 17:23

Well from the power of deduction and whats been said in the thread, we are meeting at brooklands museum in the morning some time, were then going to a pub (indicated on the map) for a bit of lunch, so lunch time

I dont know on times, but reckon the pub would be 1pm-ish?

Can anyone make 1 simple post stating times and places along with any appropriate links/post codes etc.

It would make it easier for everyone and hopefully maximise the number of people attending.

I thought we were meeting at the Tesco's at around 11am then taking some pictures, having a trundle to the pub for lunch then going for a random drive???

:-D
I do hope the rain holds off as i would like to put some names to faces.

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet 19th Feb - 16/02/2006 02:24

Afternoon peeps! Apologies for being quiet the last few days, however I have just been to meet my friend at Brooklands.

They have no issues with us using the Museum, parking up in the Paddock (sectioned off area at the front) and using the banking and other back drops for photo's.

They have been a little less forthcoming with the discounts though - they are pushing the regular entrance fee with £1 off per person if we top 15 peeps... not amazing to be honest considering we only want to be there for about an hour. Would be £7 per person, £6 if your a student or have your bus pass so I will leave it up to you guys to make the call.

We can use the museum if we fancy it, if not still meet local and invest our saved cash in some extra pub munch

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet 19th Feb - 16/02/2006 04:21

Me again, some peeps asked for maps and stuff. Its not far from the M25/A3 junction (J10) so I have based the following maps around that;

If we meet at brooklands: brooklands

If we meet just outside brooklands there is a pretty quiet road where could mince about till we all get there; wellington way: Wellington Way

a close up of the two roads, they really are right beside each other: Both!

Other than those starting points, I am open to anything.

Begbie, you gonna give the Uno an airing or you want me to pick you up first?

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet 19th Feb - 16/02/2006 06:26

All

Given the cost of going into Brooklands and the risk of getting kicked out of Wellington way (over zeleous security ) and the fact that Tescos will be packed.

Can I suggest we all meet at Weybridge Station car park. this is free and empty on a Sunday. If so i will post maps etc.

Meet tim 11am till 12:30

12:30 convoy to Begbies pub suggestion.

Objections?

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet 19th Feb - 16/02/2006 21:32

Yep sounds good was going to suggest the shell petrol garage but the station car park is a better idea me thinks.

She you all there, i do agree that the cost to get into brroklands is a tad steep just for some pictures we could go for a drive after lunch maybe to egham way or virginia water find a nice quiet carpark and get some FREE pictures :-D

I personally think that sounds like a better idea and that way i get to drive Angelica for that bit longer ;-)

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet 19th Feb - 16/02/2006 21:57

Indeed - apologies the cost of Brooklands was not more managable, it would have made for some superb shots especially with the recently opened concorde and the race track.

I will try and scope out some other parts of the banking and see if we can get on anywhere else.

Re: Weybridge / Chertsey mini-meet 19th Feb - 16/02/2006 22:30

Location Of Wybridge station:- Google Map

The meet point is in the car park on the Southern side of the Station NOT the ticket office side.

Meet from 11am and kick tyres till 12:30
12:30 depart for Pub with lunch around 1ish

Scenic drive to Pub Lunch at the Duke of Wellington Nr East Horsley
Duke Of Wellington Location

Depart from there once fed and watered.

Looks like a plan to me

No idea on the pub Jim, but you still have time to clean the car before lunch (although I'm confused about the time as your post is timed at 11.35am on the 19th yet it is only 9.20ish ).
