Bigger than the last, and I once had 14 guys sleeping there one night.

Not sure about the party, 14 guys and a house full of alcohol, now obviously there's Senny Dave's curves to admire (whilst he's still got them), but it's nice to have other distractions smile

Unless i get a return load (paid for).
That could happen but cant risk saying i will be there yet.

OK, we have an exclusive karting session (held until Monday) for the last slot of the day 5.15 - 7pm. This is for 14 drivers only (max allowed), and the cost is £41.95 per person. We need a minimum of 8 drivers to book the session in advance, so please confirm your attendance here and forward payment via Paypal (gift please!). The session includes 5 mins practice, 10 minutes qualifier and a 15 minute grid start race.

Thinking about the food - Za Za Bazaar can easily accomodate us, but for groups larger than 6 people they require a non-refundable deposit of £5 per person. That would require definite commitment from attendees.

I have spoken to FlavourZ (www.flavourz.co.uk) and they do not require a deposit for groups smaller than 20 people. However, they encourage sittings of 7:00-9:00 or 9:00-close, which may not be flexible enough for us. What are other people's thoughts?

So we need a vote on either Chinese or Mexican?

Forgot to add, I'm happy with either.

Mexican is fine by me.

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 02/02/2012 14:41

FlavourZ is Mexican, italian, chinese, indian etc all in one, same sort of thing as Za Za Bazaar. My question was more whether people would prefer to commit and pay a deposit for Za Za, or go to FlavourZ, but then not eat until 9 presumably because we won't make 7pm if we don't finish karting until 7.

How much snow landed in Bristol lastnight?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 10/02/2012 09:55

It depends where you live Joe. Those in the poorer North side of town (Leighton, James, Dan) may have experienced a good few inches of snowfall.

Those in the wealthier sub tropical south (Dave and Myself) didnt even get a single flake.

(This description holds true untill i move into my new place in Horfield, at which point the north end of town automatically becomes the affluent, "must-live", celebrity side of town wink )

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 10/02/2012 10:45

Not yet. So far i've been told July-ish by one person and November by another!

Apparently they wont be able to give a firmer date until the roof goes on and the building is water tight.

Once i have a firm date though, you can be sure there will be a 'pre night out' party at mine where shoes will be taken off at the door and a limited amount of merriment will be allowed. However those who make any spillages will be dealt with severely. grr

(and Reuben will not be allowed to sleep there until he has signed a waiver baring him from buying anything at Jason Donervan)

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 15/02/2012 16:00

Given where we will be eating i have been thinking about the route for our mini pub crawl. Now, given the number of locations I think we should go to, i think it'll have to be a 1-2 drink in each place rule until we reach a club. But for the follow Bristolians, i am thinking:

  • The Ram (for that 'murderer' connection) - but it's actually a decent pub
  • Goldbrick House (no FCCUK trip would be complete without it)
  • The Woods (another lively bar which has a decent outside area for the smokers and comfy chair upstairs if required)
  • The Botanist (Trendy bar, a personal favourite)
  • Magic Bar (just becuase we'll end up there at some point even if i didnt put it on the list!)
  • Club - I'm thinking Poo Naa naas or MBargo.

I'm getting my haircut this evening so i'll ask the girl if there is anything special going on this saturday too.

Not sure about a club Saturday, I'm up for taking the real old mans ales and wine bars route, zero degrees, St Michaels Hill incorporating the Highbury Vaults and others?

But, happy to discuss in the afternoon once we've all met up.

And on that note, I reckon we should meet at the Dovecote,
Dovecote pub for late lunch

which serves good grub, we can all park at, and gives us easy access onwards to the karting.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 16/02/2012 21:19

The problem you have there Dan is that if we do it that way, we'll have a fleet of coops going to karting, then we need to be at Flavourz almost immediately after. We cant have a fleet of coops parked up in town and left over night with everyone then needing to get back to them in the morning (to find them keyed et al.

I can obviously ferry 3 people back to mine after the karting and then we walk to Flavourz but it's still a 15 minute walk.

As for old man pubs? I wouldn't bother coming out! My funds are limited and I don't want to use them up sitting in an old man pub like a bunch of retirees, just chatting the same stuff as we do on the forum. You might aswell just have everyone go home after the karting, get on their computers, open up a bottle of beer and get on the forum.

Hows about you old codgers do that and Mario, Reubs and myself have a proper night out. laugh

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 16/02/2012 21:36

I'll probably be taking the Coupe down to town after karting and leaving it down there so I can take 3 others too.

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 17/02/2012 10:18

IMO the best approach would be for those staying at Shay'Dans to all meet there, then people like James and Myself who are happy to give lifts, should go there, get as many people into as few as possible cars, then goto a pub between Dans and the karting place.

Admittedly it probably wont be the nicest of places, looking at a straight line between southmead and avonmouth sick but it definitely would make more sense. Theres no point zig zaging up and down Bristol with lots of cars.

Then we can head back toward town, i dunno, perhaps some would go with Leighton back to his and then share a cab to Flavourz, same for me if we really want to save time (rather than walk for 15 mins).

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 17/02/2012 10:52

Are you not karting Mario?

Plan is to meet at mine between 12-1.30, then as Truff says, take as many people in as few cars as possible and head over to a nice pub for lunch pre-karting, then we can consider options for where we dump leave the cars afterwards smile

Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 17/02/2012 11:29

I don't want to do drive all the way upto yours Dan only to drive back almost past my house to get to the pub, absolutely pointless! smile

Not sure how best to accomodate you Mario. As i'm not karting, i could probably leave there early and pick you up, then we'd be on time for Flavourz despite our short walk. (Or we could get into town ahead of time and have a sneaky bevvie on the waterfront)

Problem is... and dont laugh laugh

The only time i can get my haircut is 12 laugh (Truffle can sympathise while others can point fun and laugh)
So now thats booked i can realistically be in bristol at 4ish...

That's the problem, there isn't time between the karting finishing and the meal for everyone to go back to Dan's or whatever.

People will have to take a spare shirt with them to the karting.

I might be able to meet late arrivers at Dan's as I probably won't go to the pub for lunch. I could meet people and transport them to the pub or straight to karting depending on time.

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 19/02/2012 22:27

Sorry I didn't make it into town in the end, was all going so well, got dropped off in the pub car park to scoot the coop over to Dan's, and the battery had died... all I could hear was Truffle roaring off into the distance! Spent a cold 45minutes as the RAC had no knowledge of me.. crazy

Ended up ringing a mate and pushed it out of the space to jump it... only for it to totally die, no dash lights or anything when I tried to turn her over frown Fiddled round in the dark with the earth and stuff but no good.

Had to push it back into the space and tell the pub it would be staying there over night - only for them to say that's fine, but we had a car broken into last week at the back of the car park frown

Managed to blag a lift back to mine and then was far far away from town and not in the best of moods! grr

Big thanks thumb to Joe (again!) and Senny Dave for sorting it out this morning.

There's always next time...nice meeting everyone at the karting anyway!(Damn that slow kart eh Dan?)

Yes dead battery cell so there was no way it was going to start or hold a charge, fitted a fresh battery and it started on the button, you missed a good evening but we always have a good laugh so I'll collect you on the next one so you won't need to worry about transport thumb

A big thanks to leighton who organised the karting (well done Rob for getting 1st place wink ) James for sorting the restaurant, Dan for the loan of his sofa and a mega big thanks to sennydave for heping out with Paul's coupe Sunday morning, I owe you a drink or two at Spa mate thumb

I had a great evening catching up with you all, Jonny who've I've not seen in ages, Joe and Howard and all the usual faces.
From memory I think the only issue was James reversing into a lamp post sick but after a few Black Russians he soon cheered up laugh

After 14hrs sleep I'm now ready to face the day smile

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 20/02/2012 13:02

Rob was the a dark horse, managing to literally drive away from everyone with relative ease! I have to say my competitive kart career is over because frankly I'm not very competitive rolleyes I don't know where to find the extra speed, so I'll stick to the bigger versions on a bigger track smile

Very enjoyable evening, and the Magic Bar is just... well magic smile

Re: Bristol social gathering Feb 2012 - 20/02/2012 22:57

I've just seen a big round of drinks from the magic bar on my bank statement of which I have no recollection. I get the distinct impression that there may be far more that I will never recall. God knows what I was doing at 4am at Dan's that was so funny, but I hope I was only talking crap/gibberish... I would rather not have video evidence on the internet though.

About £26, so not that large really. Dave, I do remember her and only thinking she was tall because she was up some steps. I did the realise she was as short as me when she came down.

Just one video James. It was a re-inactment of your minor bump. Nothing too embarassing just a giggle.
