Coupe Meet East Kirkby Airfield - Lincolnshire

Hi All,

I am looking at organising a club meet at East Kirkby Airfield in Lincolnshire.I just wanted to get a feel for numbers that would be interested in attending. it is quite a good location (WWII Airfield)the main attraction at the site is a fully functioning Lancaster Bomber (good back drop for photos of your beloved coupe) & C-46 Dakota, bit of a museum, cafe etc. Dates to follow dependant on interest

its only 44 miles from me n if everything is sorted on my car then i will be up for it

Its a decent-ish run, but I'm also a possible. Anything less than 100miles, and this is 90.

T460 - My mum lives at Healing, so if you see a Broom in that area on a weekend there is a reasonable chance its me.

Shame you can't be there I'm sure you'll have fun in Spa looking at the dates it's getting quite busy July is the next window but I guess most people will be away on holiday

im going away in may n august so any other time really is ok for me if the funds are ok

21st April is a bit too close to Spa for me too Guiseppi.

July would be better for me, but it's almost impossible to please everyone.

maybe I could arrange one for April and another for the first weekend in July.

Sorry for not getting back sooner waiting on a response from the venue. Dates now look like the weekend of the 7th - 8th July which seems to be better for most. I have provisionally given these dates to the venue.

Like Paul has said just a meet nice little Airfield good photo oppertunity especially with the Lancaster Bomber in the background, bit of a cafe & museum.

Unfortunatley its a grass airfield so no track time (that includes you Paul)

How many coops expected ? I may pop by to see other coupes

I would absolutely love this, my grandfather flew in the Lancaster in WW2 and me and dad have somewhat of a bond with them. I've been to this particular airfield and my dad had a taxi run in the Lanc. It was quite frankly the best day of my life and I'd love to visit again.

It would be fantastic to take some photos of my car infront of the Lanc too

My father and his father before him know the Pantons very well who own the Lanc and my grandfather's memorial tree is up there so it'd be nice to see that too.

I shall be going on to Kelstern afterwards where my father flew from and where 625 Squadron's memorial is located.

That's where my money is, too. But it is slightly strange, as the filter has been there months and not leaked so far.

For all those attending current plan is to meet at the Venue about 1000hrs but any time in the morning especially for those with a long drive

Looks like eight coupes attending lets hope for good weather if not plenty of cover at the venue (not for the cars though)

hi guys and gals just letting you know i will be attending, will be meeting up with crazylegs first then driving up in a mini convoy so if anyone else from the mids is going and wants to tag along...

sorry i missed the track day on the 2nd aswell guys, didnt realise you had to show the track staff your licence and im still waiting for dvla to send mine back with change of address... so soon as i get it back il be at the next available track day so you can all have a good laugh at the newbie spinning off! lol..

anyway see you all saturday! oh and whoever keeps singing can you please knock it off! i want SUN!! lol..

The Airfield is only 15 mins from my house so I'll see you there

Great to see all you guys especially as some had come quite a distance. The weather held off long enough just a shame the Lancaster did not come out of its garage.

That was an interesting day. Thanks for organising it Giuseppe.

345 miles, just under 6 hours on the road, 34mpg and worth every minute.

Fantastic day, cheers for organising it Seppe. Shame none of the other locals made it.

Well i had a great day out, thought the venue was top notch for a get together, the displayes of the crashed planes realy brings it home just how brave our grandads realy were.
Theirs even an old b2 cockpit you can sit in, iv never seen so many switches! Lol

So as all have said thanks for a great day out!

Oh and a thank you to crazylegs and porkypaul for errr lets say a intresting drive down! Some great driving roads and only 3 speed cameras the whole way! Well done crazy mate! Lol

I did get to see one of the local Coupes on the way home!

I was driving through a flood in Middle Rasen at the time (for about 300m!) and a Silver one, yet another TxxxWEU, came the other way. I think Mrs. Mansilla took photos - will try to remember to post them when I get home on Tuesday / Wednesday.

Huge thanks for organising this event, it was a fantastic little venue. Trish, Adam and I had a great day out and enjoyed catching up with old friends and new ones too.

Oh and 450hp ..... My standard little 20VT left you for dead You only caught me because the in-built speed limiter and anti overtake device kicked in

Great day for and for £5 entry it's worth every penny.

The latest edition of "Flog It" had a piece about the musseum at East Kirby airfield and in particular about their Lancaster.

Heres the BBC IPlayer link for anyone interested.

The museum is in the opening sequences and with the main piece from 17:25 onwards.

I think the link will expire on 21st December.
