Christmas Meet, Carlisle, 14th December 2013.

Christmas Meet, Carlisle, 14th December 2013. - 30/09/2013 09:51

Same as every year, a nice meet/catch up in Carlisle, with a meal at Rob40's restaurant here and quite a few drinks and a night around the town laugh

For any new people to this, if you want to stay overnight, there are plenty of hotels close by and the ones we use mostly are the Ibis and The County.
Plenty of others within short walking distances too though cool

Booked at the ibis - price seems to have gone up since you guys booked....

Re: Christmas Meet, Carlisle, 14th December 2013. - 06/10/2013 22:21

As soon as a hotel gets a couple of bookings for the same date, within a couple of days, they think something is happening and increase prices.

Always happens and is why I booked The County last year cry By the time I had the money for the Ibis, prices were at £50 or £60 frown

Re: Christmas Meet, Carlisle, 14th December 2013. - 06/10/2013 22:59

Corner House currently has some rooms available (I think Simon stayed there last year), starting from £30 (breakfast included in price) and not too far away from the Ibis and The County either.

No up front costs either, pay on the day.

I've just booked a room, just in case the prices for the Ibis and County go up higher before I have the money to pay.

Is this the kind of event you could bring an (almost) one year old to?
We wouldn't partake in the drinking aspect anyway.

Jim, this is a pic of the inside of Rob's restaurant

I'm not sure what Rob40 would have to say on this but I would imagine one of you guys would be holding your wee lassie at any one time while the noshing was going on. It's a great atmosphere for potentially rowdy but well-behaved folk but not convinced that it's great sleeping ambience laugh
I'm thinking of the room/space etc. but you'd be better PM'ing Rob on that issue.

But, start 'em young, and she'd be sure to get loads of attention!

Beforehand everyone tends to meet up from around 5.00 onwards in the Ibis bar, then go to eat 7.30/8.00ish. Afterwards the tarts and chavs adventurous young things go out for a night on the town laugh

Breakfast/coffee next morning often in what used to be Wotherspoons if not/as well as in your hotel...or it's up to you.

Great, someone to keep steamer company and on his level, maybe if all went well even laugh at his jokes.

No offense intended Jim.

Cheers Theresa!! Be good to meet some other owners, met one guy with a maroon 20vt in Teesside and not even seen another coupe for a year around here!!
Got a b&b but will get along to ibis and look forward to meal...home early next day though so no after drinking etc!!;-)
Cheers
Marc

Re: Christmas Meet, Carlisle, 14th December 2013. - 17/11/2013 23:01

Which b&b have you booked Marc? Always good to know which ones are close to the Ibis/main drinking area laugh

You'll have to give us a review after you've stayed there. The Ibis is getting too expensive these days, once a couple of people have booked for the set date, so always good to know which alternatives are close by cool

Shame you won't be coming out with us afterwards, although may be a wise move laugh

You'll find most of us in the Ibis hotel on and off from around 5pm, regardless of where we may be staying overnight ;D

A genuine huge thanks to all who made the epic journeys, from the North and South, and for your incredible support and generosity towards Sofia. It's a shame the rest didn't make it, you were all sorely missed.

You guys, and galls, really are THE BEST

From Sofia, Angelo, Jane and myself, we wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy, peaceful and stress-free new year. I'll be more than happy with that if nothing else laugh

As always a great time up in Carlisle. Thank you all for the welcome and hospitality. We had a great time and felt very welcome smile

I took a few pictures. A few seconds after the smiling photo of Ronnie he looked very serious about his beer... Don't you worry Ronnie with the welcome we got. We'll be back lad.

I did change the dates to suit you two or three years ago Bob and you still didn't come along, although I've stuck with those dates ever since, even though it means I have to take time off work frown

Re: Christmas Meet, Carlisle, 14th December 2013. - 18/12/2013 21:39

just to echo what others have said, great to meet you all.

I'm just into therapy to deal with how inadequate sparkyman has made me feel about my lack of hair and the porto blue colour/lack of power in my NA.

only consolation is that they do say "small engine, big something else"

look forward to seeing you at the next whatever

all the best richard

T, I wasn't having a dig, far from it!

I was making reference to the fact that we can never seem to get time to be able to get to a Carlisle Christmas meets. But we do usually get to visit Rob in June, for the last three years at least, to catch up - so six months late wink
