Local Meets (Cambridge)

Local Meets (Cambridge) - 21/07/2014 10:25

Not sure if their is an appetite on FCCUK for local meets any more? These used to be really popular, and regularly attracted a good turnout.

Format used to follow.

1. Select a local pub.
2. Meet up, chat and enjoy a spot of lunch.
3. Take a bit of a drive, nothing too spirited, more a Coupé convoy through the villages.
4. Park up somewhere different and take some pictures.

So, If I were to propose re-starting the Cambridge / Essex / Suffolk meets would anyone be interested?

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 21/07/2014 12:34

yes, but a bit of a drive for me.... would prefer something like this closer if there is anything ?

if i happen to be in cambridge on the given day then i would come - my HQ office is St.Neots, but go about once per year.

Hi Bob,

Yes this would be brilliant! but as long as nobody pokes fun at the cosmetics on my 99 20VT...it looks 15 years old but only because Roger keeps giving me mechanical bills! :-D

Thank you,
Dan

Yay we are up to Three / four peeps... smile

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 24/07/2014 16:26

This post shows, either, how few of our members regularly check the forum, or, how few are interested!

If the forum enabled one to target mailshot people, by location, perhaps more people would be up for meeting / events?

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 24/07/2014 18:27

Not sure if im local up in Kettering! as essex dont feel that local to me! although i have (or my wife has) family in caterham Tunbridge wells and in ockendon essex
I want to get out a bit more (car wise) just got a few more bits and bobs to sort then should be ready to really enjoy the coupe! hoping to get near to the end of big spends by end of this year then it will just be the usual servicing and service parts also only on a 3000 mile policy this year so hopefully change that to somewhere around 9000 in october at renewal!
so im sort of a maybe but not that local really!

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 24/07/2014 19:29

I don't think it can, Bob. It only knows the locations of people who are members or who have seller's rights.

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 24/07/2014 20:20

Sadly I think you are correct Neil frown

Some forums do mailshot peeps if events happen in their area, it has never been a feature on here though.

I used to mailshot any local owners / members I knew of in a mass PM. But that involves knowing who is local and then having the ability to send mass PM's.

Depending on the date I might try and come along. It has been a while since I was last in Cambridge

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 24/07/2014 21:19

I've managed to get over to the Cambridge area in the past Bob, so no reason why not again.

Hi, I'd love to meet other Coupe owners in Cambridge (I live just up the road in Bury St Edmunds). smile

Date, time, place?

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 12/09/2014 15:13

OK folks would we prefer an Evening meet or a weekend?
Posted By: Barmybob

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 12/09/2014 15:25

And how about Herbie's in Melbourne?
Posted By: barnacle

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 12/09/2014 15:43

Herbies is cool with me; after work *slightly* preferred (weekends liable to be flying but don't know until Thursday or Friday).
Posted By: Barmybob

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 12/09/2014 17:12

OK they are closed on Mondays.

I've asked if they would be able to welcome a mini - midweek Italian invasion and they seem quite open to it smile

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 12/09/2014 19:15

Thanks for starting to organise! Weekend or midweek good for me. Don't know Herbies, but Melbourne sounds a good venue. The sooner the better - dead keen! Cheers, Cliff

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 14/09/2014 22:56

Ah bugger, whilst it is good to see a Cambridge meet after so long, i'm only able to attend at weekends due to working 2 jobs...one for the house, and one for Poweritalia! laugh

I will keep my eyes open for any weekend meets!

Have a good evening.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 15/09/2014 12:14

We might have a few interlopers...

A friend has said that he'll try and bring something old and Italian, probably an early Fiat 500.
Posted By: barnacle

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 15/09/2014 19:32

Bob, Anita would like to go shopping with Trish before the meet; if she's interested, would you PM me a contact for her please? She's planning on arriving by bus in Cambridge around 1pm

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 15/09/2014 20:54

Only just seen this, 6 is a wee bit early for me with work - what's the deal with such meets, dinner then go for a drive? If so I may be able to make a post dinner appearance, would be good to meet some fellow coupé owners!
Posted By: davep

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 15/09/2014 21:01

Well I coming then see you all around 6

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 15/09/2014 21:58

Great to see the Cambridge meets happening again. I can't make it this time but maybe the next event could be on a weekend. I could get my old man to come along with the interceptor too
Posted By: barnacle

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 15/09/2014 22:13

At this time of year a drive is unlikely - it's dark early which rather removes the point!

(Also, I'll be in the Bravo; the coupe isn't all that well at the moment.)

So most likely something wet, then something chewy, then something else wet... but Bob's organising, and I don't know what he's got arranged.

I was hoping to bring the X1/9 but when I used it yesterday afternoon the fuel pump failed (I think) so the new one may not arrive in time. Probably will bring the Grande Punto as I don't want to use the coupe again before Spa.
Posted By: Barmybob

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 16/09/2014 09:38

Looks like I had better take a Coupé, it looks like they will be a bit thin on the ground this week shocked smile

As for times - Meet up from about 6pm with a plan to have a bite to eat at about 7 but nothing is cast in stone.

Really enjoyed my first FCCUK meet in Melbourn tonight, great chat, welcoming peeps and fab cars. When's the next one barmybob?
Posted By: Barmybob

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 17/09/2014 22:33

What a nice evening. Really nice to meet up with friends, both old and new smile

Was really good of Rob to bring his wife's 16V N/A along, his first ever coupé meet in some 17 years of Coupé ownership.

Great to meet two other Coupé meet virgins too, Cliff and Dave. One is mad about French cars and the other obsessively in love with his gorgeous yellow coupé, though I think he should get shot of those wheels. Just so happens I could have a buyer for them hehe

And finally, so nice too to catch up with Peterp, Neil and Anita, that's twice in a week folks smile

So, weekend meet next then? cool

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 19/09/2014 12:33

Yes Barmybob, a weekend would be fab! I have had my coupe for 9 years and the only time i ever speak to another coupe owner is when i am at Poweritalia!!

So it would be nice to meet a few others, but away from receiving a big bill!!

Any photos from this meet??

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Local Meets (Cambridge) - 20/09/2014 15:00

I do have a few pictures but to get them on here I must first remember how to get into photobucket!

The consensus from the meet this week seemed to be for me to organise another meet ASAP - So I'm currently looking to plan a route, and possibly a treasure hunt too!
