Carlisle Christmas Party Sat 13th December 2014 - 07/09/2014 01:11
I was going leave posting this until after the Agm next weekend, but Rob has said a few people have asked him about the dates, etc already, so thought I'd make the thread now so people can book their work holidays off, book hotels and give Rob a rough idea of numbers attending, etc
For those that want to come along, but haven't been before, it's basically a meet up of friends who have Coupes or used to have Coupes and we go and have drinks in Carlisle, a meal at Rob40's restaurant
here and then go back out for more drinks
We usually stay overnight at a hotel/guesthouse and then meet up for breakfast in the morning
It's a great night with a lovely atmosphere and I'm looking forward to it already
Please add your names below if you'd like to come along.

Re: Carlisle Christmas Party Sat 13th December 2014 - 22/10/2014 23:08
There are a lot of mistake in the menu
Mozzarella caprese -> in Italy we say only "Caprese"
Caneloni della casa -> 2 "n", caNNelloni
Tortelloni ala panna -> 2 "l", aLLA panna
Spaghetti carbonara -> Spaghetti ALLA carbonara
And many others!
I hope for you that dishes are better then the name!

The lad that made the web page is dyslexic, sad but true! The printed menu, however, is error free
Gimmo, FYI, we're not in Italy! Caprese, on it's own means nothing to the average Brit. Neither does Cacciucco, Tomaselle or Pandolce.

Neil, the Ibis is the hotel most stay at and where we meet up too.
Simon and I are tightarses/skint, so we book the Corner House

The Ibis is currently showing as £67 for next Saturday night.
Don't order breakfast though, we walk across the road and get a better one there

The Premier may be cheaper, but work out what your taxi costs are in and out.
The Ibis is in the middle of everything going on

Re: Carlisle Christmas Party Sat 13th December 2014 - 07/12/2014 07:40
Well, given that I don't drink...
What's the plan for meeting? Where, when?
Posted By: Theresa
Re: Carlisle Christmas Party Sat 13th December 2014 - 07/12/2014 10:01
The County hotel is pretty much next to the Ibis too Neil, but the Premier will be a nicer place to stay and yes, as you don't drink, then makes sense to stay there.
Update:
Rob has just text me. Our table is booked for 7.30pm so everyone can settle down and we'll be eating around 8pm or shortly after.
As he's now expanded the restaurant, there's more room for us to sit and wait for each other, rather than waiting in the Ibis.
So, meeting point is now at Robs:
http://www.lamezzalunacarlisle.co.uk/ and we're welcome to arrive earlier for drinks and to meet each other, rather than the Ibis

Simon and I are tightarses/skint, so we book the Corner House
So what's the plan for getting out of our rounds this year T?
Thanks for the update, that'll be good to meet in Rob's rather than the Ibis which has crap beer!

Lol, I always try and get out of rounds anyway, I'd rather just buy my own drink or just take it in turns with one other person.
Yeah, the Ibis isn't bad, but would rather give my money to Rob and drink Peroni
Sorry to see you can't make it nismo

Our table is booked for 7.30pm.
Rob has other customers booked in for food, etc., before us, so I think a 7pm meet time for us all to have drinks at Robs is early enough, as our table won't be ready until 7.30pm ish and we don't want to be cluttering up the place for over an hour before we're booked in.
Jack (or anyone else that needs it) pm me and I'll give you my mobile number

Re: Carlisle Christmas Party Sat 13th December 2014 - 11/12/2014 19:14
Fair shout T, are you suggesting we drift in to the Ibis beforehand as in previous years?
Maybe there's a nice pub nearby with decent ale
Any suggestions from the locals?
Will do a little research...
(5 mins later) Ok there's a place just around the corner with 40 different ales
called the Moo Bar (not all called that, you know what I mean
) - it gets busy later on but early doors it should be fine.
T, what do you think, you're the boss 'ere, fancy giving this a go?
Posted By: Theresa
Re: Carlisle Christmas Party Sat 13th December 2014 - 11/12/2014 19:55
Yeah, I'm happy with anything concerning alcohol Simon
A Moo bar sounds appropriate for the old cow
I just don't want to descend on Robs place too early when he has other customers to consider.
I also like a pint or three shortly after I arrive in Carisle before going back to my room to get changed for the night ahead
I'm easy going as to what we do and where we meet up, I'm just trying to consider Rob and his other customers before us.

Can't quite believe I'm not going to make it to Carlisle, first one I have missed since its inception. In my defence it has been an unsual and trying time for me and my family.
Gutted.
It was only the other day I was sitting on the Erskine Bridge contemplate life with my walkman, when I heard Snap, The Power and thought of Nick & Mike and smiled to myself, or as I like to call them, Girly arms x
I will need to know if Matt and T actually get it on, it's like Dallas all over again but better x
Could you pass on my apologies to Rob, Angelo(chubbs) and Sofia x and all the staff who might recall me.
I'll also miss how involved Rob and all the lovely staff are with the crimbo tree,it's a sight to behold, can't possibly be better than last years effort !
I hope each and everyone of you have a safe journey and a great night, I'll be thinking of you's xx

Big thanks to all who made the trek to Carlisle, it's always a pleasure to see you guys again. Shame about the poor local turnout but the long-distance travellers made up for it.
Glad everyone got home safe and sound, was a bit worried when I saw a police checkpoint breathalysing drivers at the north end of town.
Hope to catch up with you all again at a meet in the new year.

Thanks to Rob and crew for another Fantastic evening and meal, delicious as always.
Also huge thanks to Theresa for keeping this meet going. We really do enjoy visiting Carlisle and attending the meet. We always try to make it when other commitments fall into place.

Hi Neil, hope you had a trouble-free trip up north and that the Skye bridge was finally opened again.
If you fancy a pit stop on the return leg, you know where we are.

Yeah, it was opened to cars but still closed to high-siders. See how we go on Sunday.

If you're planning to come along this year (12th December 2015), then it might be a good idea to book your hotel now
I've booked mine at the Cornerhouse Guesthouse, which I've stayed in the last couple of years, but also looked at the Ibis again and it's price is currently just under £40, which is a good price, as it never seems to drop below that these days.
If you know you're going to be attending, then it'll be worth booking now

T, never thought about this before, don't know why as it's a great idea and you been a female should be applauded for thinking outside the box
The only reason I came on this forum is that stupid welsh male git pm's on here, I don't come on here much anymore for reasons I would love to bitch about at crimbo "15
Texting Rob tonight and hearing how well Sofia is doing really brought it home about how much I missed it
I really want to make it this year and will book a room , I missed each and every one of you guys/girls this year*
* going pound each and every one of yous, I'm so excited I want to start now

I'm glad this has knocked sense into you at last Sparkers old chap
Yes indeed Sofia has made a remarkable recovery even if still a wee bit shy....maybe geezers with beards make her nervous
We had a great night and Rob and crew looked after us royally

Would be great to have all the gang turn up again
Baz, Cowboy, Steamer, Custard, Scal etc.
The loud shirt competition this year was......err....rather quiet!!

Cowboy is involved in some transgender stuff.
Steamer is in the process of being extradited.
Talked to Baz for an hour but couldn't understand a word.
Fingers crossed for Custard, Scal ..
