I know its very quiet , I'd like to know who the smart shiny black one was , and who knocked in the 12's?

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 13/08/2006 17:06

The smart shiny black one was Markus Markus was the fastest car of the day i.e. minus jet car, dragster and funny dragsters. He managed a couple of 12.9s without nitrous and a couple of 12.7s with nitrous... so very consistent it's quite remarkable. Markus also won an award for best car of the day

The coupés were out in force and dominated the 1/4 action which was great to see. I'm finally getting better at the launch having developed a technique. I launch with 1bar and then half way through second quickly flick the "Hi Boost" button in the ashtray Anyway, I managed two 13.3s and two 13.2s runs @ 111mph with a 2.3 60ft. I was the third fastest on the day and managed to take out a brand new Maserati Quattroporte which also won a "car of the day" award There is definately a 12.9s run in the car but whether I can get it is another matter. Barbz had a couple of goes in my car to see if he could "crack it"... I won't mention his times or say any more other than how hard he found it to drive

Anyway it was a great turnout without a drop of rain all day with little to zero queueing There was a nice 360 Challenge Stradale which managed to wreck the gearbox I think on the first launch and was then duly towed home Hopefully Suba's car just needs a new oil cooler... fingers crossed

Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day and especially Barbz

A great turn out by the Coop's,I think i counted 28 on our stand at one point ,plus there were another 4/5 on other stands.

As Flea said the Coupe's were out in force on the 1/4 mile,Markus with his 12.7 and Flea with his 13.2 were the quickest of the Coop's/road cars on the day,The best i could manage was a 13.7 which i was happy with as my Coop's only 270/280 bhp.It was nice to meet a Few more Fccuker's aswell,Scooby,Bobbs,Eldinho,Kenno,Suba and everyone else i met

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 13/08/2006 20:31

I think it was the best event I've been to at the Pod! Aside from it officially being the coldest place on the planet

Flea/Leighton did a fantastic job and produced the goods against the Quadroporte. It was good to see him getting into the low 13s!

I really felt for Simon/Suba - his exhaust blew off in the morning meaning he had to sit it out until it was cool enough to fix. Then in the afternoon his oil cooler pipes went. Could've been a lot worse but I think he had the potential to get into the mid 13s

It was Markus day though all in all, and he was superb throughout the day and was destroying anything and everything on the drag strip. Like Leighton said he was so consistent. Even with a couple of bad starts he still pulled out sub-13s times. There's defintiely a sub 12.5s 1/4m there in his setup if he can get the traction somehow.
It was great when Phil Ward came over to tell him he'd won the car of the day. He also won the Fiat shoot-out where each Fiat was allowed to do 1 quarter mile run.

What a great day, thanks CoupeDave for getting us all parked together.

I didn't do the 1/4 for fear of car blowing up !!! But watching the rest out there made me wish I had brought my driving license.

See you there next year, let shope the Ferrari boys turn up next time.

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 03:14

Good day all in all.

It was very overcast when i got there day but managed to stay dry and pretty much rain free all day.

Muchos hilarity when the 360 driver turned up in a cap and puffer against some lads from Perfecttouch, whose punto put in some very respectable times all day, managed to wheelspin his car in 1st,2nd and 3rd all the way to the end of the strip where it conked out and got towed at about 10:30.. (plonker.)

Some great cars there on the day although the ferrari owners club managed to show up with 6 cars....and the only one that had a go broke (makes us fiat owners feel that maybe we have the more reliable cars of the fiat group), so i have to say it was a pretty pathetic turn out by them.

Car of the day for me was the stealthy ford pickup with a chevy small block putting out around 500hp
It sounded and looked so and the driver and mechanic were top guys.

I managed consistent 14.4s all day, doing about 15-16 runs, my best time was 14.084, this was at 1bar mind, as i didnt want to stress my car to much :P and she managed to go all day without a single hitch

Managed to hit a couple of 2.2 60fts and a couple of 0.150 reaction times too

The jet car was awesome to see, as were the 2 Fiat 500s/600s, a couple of lambos turned up but didnt make much of an impression, same with the deTomasos, although the detomasos managed to only drag each other through some rather annoying queing techniques

Was not impressed with the quattroporte, i expected it to be much quicker, but there were some very questionable launch techniques by all the 4x4 alfas/lancias, the fiat x/19 (the fast one) was good to watch though and made a countach look very silly.

Anyway some movies and pictures (im the ink black 20vt):
The Integrales.
Countach
Daytona
Diablo
Awesome Fiat!
Nice Camaro! (700hp)
Jet Car firing up
There it is...!
Damn, wheres it gone!
Major Burnout, yank stlyee!
Worlds fastest scooter! Official.
My fastest 1/4
My fastest reaction time

Me vs the Pickup (14megs)

Me vs 300hp+ Thema Turbo (9megs)

Me vs an Alfa 33 (6megs)

Camaro (5megs)

Me vs an Uno Turbo (5megs)

Me vs a GTV (9megs)

Me vs a 20vt (4megs)

Me vs Thema Turbo again (8megs)

Countach vs X/19 (10megs)

Fiat 500 vs Beetle Dragster (5megs)

Drag Bike (2.5megs)
Drag Scooter (2.7megs)

Bike vs Scooter (4megs)

Camaro vs Pickup (7megs)

Dragster

(edited: messed up the hosting, so did it again, hope it works well)

Was dissapointed in the amount of coupes that actually ran, as it seemed only 6-7 of us did more than 1 run if any at all, did get to see an intergrale blow up though

Next time hopefully the supercar boys will turn up in force and show us what they can do with their expensive posing pouches.

Hi, I'm the guy with the Maser,

Just thought i'd pop in to say how impressed I was with all your cars.

That was my first time @ pod and the first time dragging the Quattroporte, i was a bit worried about using the launch control after the 360CS with what is in theory the same gearbox lunching itself off the line, so I was soft launching, but it still couldn't find traction unforitonatly. On a good day it should do a 13.6, and i managed 3 14.0's which aint bad for a 2 tonne 4 door which probably isn't run in yet.

I have some videos of you guys kicking my arse if you are interested?

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 07:48

Hehe, good on you for getting some runs in with your new car m8, least you tried

I was really expecting a bigger presence there for ferrari, lamborghini, maserati etc + maybe a few zonda's, hell theyre werent even any cheeky riders on ducatis :/

Ive been to a couple of Japfest's before and for me the turnout for the italian car day was an embarrassment, i suppose it is a new event, but in comparison it was nothing to be proud of

The Fiat 600 has a VW Beetle type 1 aircooled engine in it AFAIK and is a regular at Beetle events (like Bugjam). Don't know about the others, but they're more likely to be a VW engines than Fiat ones unfortunately.

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 13:56

ALL the Fiat drag cars were VW powered

Quick though!
Posted By: JohnS

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 15:15

I think the choice of the VW engines has something to do with keeping them air cooled, as the Fiat 500 and 600 also had aircooled engines as standard. People in the aircooled scene are quite protective over their aircooled technology - Porsche owners included

Red (very fast coupe) V Moi in the QP.

You can hear us both still wheel spinning about half way up the strip. grip was shocking, I thought there would have been some mega high grip tarmac or something.

From that video, just click on the guys name who uploaded it, there are a few more of you guys. seems the Fiat club are a little more organised/enthusiastic than the Alfa/maserati clubs.

Some excellent vids and pics from a great day! I will post some that i took later hopefully.

I was very impressed with the coupe turn out, even though we were missing some by the looks of the numbers who said they were going.
I was dissapointed with the lack of supercars there though, surely there are more than that in the UK. Or are they just scared they may end up looking silly being beaten by a coupe?.

Great day though, hopefully get along to the next RWYB days at the pod and any coupe meet's in the future!
Like i put on last thread before this new one was started - Who was the idiot who smashed the smirnoff ice bottle in between my coupe and another - Any takers? i assume it wouldnt have been any coupe owners.

Was i the only blitz blue coupe there? Cant recall seeing any.

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 19:00

I like everyone else had a good time on Saturday, didn't get a chance to mingle much as I had my daughter with me, but despite only going to watch, thanks to Scooby twisting my arm (didn't need much twisting to be fair) I managed to finally have my first run down the strip.

I manged to improve from a 16.1 to 15.3, which I put largely down to my lack of technique, plus the fact that my car is standard and starting to show it's 118,000 miles.

A big thanks to Scooby for looking after Jasmine while I had a play, she spent the whole journey home pointing out the differences between the Plus and my standard 20VT. Even down to the differenct colour of the speedometer needles.

That's my girl.

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 19:03

I found the track to be quite grippy.

I noticed alot of people were having poor launches mind, alot of rev limit hitting too, i think some launch technique classes would benefit the majority of car owners there

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 20:10

I started my runs from pretty much as soon as I was allowed on and I was having real problems with traction all day!

My runs ranged from a 15.9(OMG , but wheelspin pretty much all the way down ) to a 14.0. Think some people found it easier to launch better than others !

PS: Cheers Taffy for the close race we had - 6/100ths in it!

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 20:42

Nice Videos, can everyone else get sound?

Anyway I am was the only Thema there, my terminal turbo lag is a joke (may need to scrap Disco Potato), on pulling from stand still I did not even have to hold the steering wheel until about 4000rpm in 1st when everything begins to pick up and then my clutch begun to slip!!! I tried to let cool to no avail However with some clutch slip I think I did well.

If it were a 1 mile strip of a rolling start I would have done much better. Excuses, excuses hey!

On the way home I played with my mate who was getting 14's an left him for dust no problem... really good day though, hope they do it next year! I should have a GTA clutch fitted by then.

Anyone got any Thema vids with sound?

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 14/08/2006 22:02

Fantastic day - arrived well late (2pm) as I had to go to Biggleswade to get some new tyres. I was gutted to have missed the Countach (although by all accounts I didn't miss much) and the De Tomaso Panteras but it was really cool to put some faces to names! My first run of the day was against that evil Punto which is on the Italiaspeed website, I was quietly chuckling to myself, grateful that I got an easy opponent for my first bomb up the track - Well and truly had my ass kicked!!! How embarrassing, but had to take my hat off to him.

Highlight had to be the rocket car - maybe not as quick up the 1/4 mile as the big drags, but so much more fearsome - scared the bejaysus out of me.

Biggest laugh was definitely giving Crazycoop a whupping, (ya nutter - get that chip sorted out!!!) She's well game and it was nice to see someone having a laugh - there seemed to be alot of 'serious' competition going on.

Great to get the chance to meet her, Cowboy (finally - great car buddy), Kenno (one of the friendliest guys you'll ever meet), Flea (started after me, overtook me, finished before me, you swine!), CarlT (stayed with me in yer standard - gutted about the 'homemade lathe' bolt in the wheel affair - sure you won't find it hard to source another) Scooby & Bobbs (great to meet you guys, gutted I couldn't make it up the night before), Taffy, Coupedave etc etc etc - sorry for names I can't remember - top banana.

Thanks for organising this Dave - it was a blast.

The rocket powered car was awesome, the guy piloting it must have been a nutter! See how the windows behind and the banners flex when he boosts it:

Great day, good to meet Scoob / Bobbs again, hat's off to the girlies Crazycoop & Bobbs for putting in some good times (and some impressive launches). I was too chicken to run this time, but I will next time (will remove the sub-box 1st methinks) Thanks to CoupeDave for organising it, excellent showing by the Coupes - proud to be part of it !

Heres my pics... Forza Pics

Ive been to a couple of Japfest's before and for me the turnout for the italian car day was an embarrassment, i suppose it is a new event, but in comparison it was nothing to be proud of

I agree. If it wasn't for all the coupes there would have been next to nothing there, what i shame, especially as i drove all the way from Cornwall to go. The Japfest's are exceptionally good, went to the last one at Castle coombe and it was awsome. I see there is going to be a Eurofest show there this september, if its anything like the Japfest it will be really good with loads of trade stands, track displays and events.

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 15/08/2006 01:17

Turnout was disappointing, sold my missus on it being like the old days at Brooklands but with the bonus of a drag strip

kappa wasn't as quick as it might have been, part down to me being crap at standing starts and pulling away like I do in my tow car - best 0-60ft was over 2.5 seconds. And part down to a misfire which plagued 4th gear. Downloaded the log from the Motec and it was dropping boost for a tenth here and a tenth there - stopped me beating 13.5 @ 114

More worrying was the log was showing 1.9 bar boost. Have identified the problem, usual rush to get ready meant the kappa turned up at Owens on Thursday with a freshly installed engine and the turbo worked just loose enough for the exhaust to blow a little. Once fixed it threw all the calibrations out and was overboosting thus popping the wastegate I presume

Will be winding boost back to 1.7 bar for this weekend's race at Anglesey

Quite impressed how quick some of the Coupes were

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 15/08/2006 01:22

People i do agree with you it was a POOR TURNOUT BUT...................A lot of people were put off with the weather as they thought it was going to rain and obviously is a new event and venue NEXT YEAR

We will need to "spread the word Like praise the lord for we have sinned, we have burnt rubber and BOY DID IT FEEL GOOD "

Next year - HAVE FAITH!!! All it needs is to get a good write up in a few places and it will generate interest then we will have more cars to KICK ARSE AGAINST!!!!

My mum runs the Fiat motor club and she HATES racing & speed but she ACTUALLY admitted to me that she really enjoyed it (even tho her daughter was hoooooning up and down the strip )

i got a mug too, took it to work to have my 10000 brews a day!!!

everybody thinks i'm a weirdo, and they say it's only a fiat for gods sake"! except for the people who have been in it!

last week i had one of my work mates in my car, gave him a quick blast! he couldn't believe how fast it was! he doesn't know loads about cars (he likes bmw's and mercs) , he said "wow, thats well fast! it gets to 60 in about 3 and a half seconds!"

i kept quiet and let him believe it!

Glad someone got a picture of the most ridiculous ALFA ever seen...yes - that one with the wheels / decals / and an allergy to any kind of small undulation in the road infront of it. Was very laughable when him and his mate started to bling it up with their stereos pumping the boomastic tunes....

Call me a bit extreme here, but what pleasure is there is some poor bastard's misfortune? Enjoy the fcat that he had the balls to come out in the first place knowing that some tuned up relatively cheap car would probably be quicker. At least he went for it, switching the box into launch mode rather than just cruising up the strip

I gave him a lift back from the end of the drag strip. He didn't seem too gutted, probably because the car is still under warranty I guess.

Re: Pictures from "Forza Italia" at Santa Pod - 21/08/2006 22:09

I can understand (sympathise, but not empathise, unfortunately) that from the point of view of someone who races I must appear callous in my post, and it must look to you as though I am revelling in someone else's misfortune.

I do not race however, and so when I watch Formula 1 or Le Mans racing, it is not from the point of view of a competitor, but of a spectator. It is with a similar mentality that I hope to see someone spin off into the gravel - it is the excitement and thrill that makes you realise all the dangers of racing, which is what makes it an exciting sport to watch. Doesn't mean I hope to see people smash into walls and get killed, but it is a dangerous sport and people take that risk, indeed get given big respect for it.

Let me make this clear - I wish no ill at all on the guy that owns the Ferrari, and I'm very sorry that in your opinion I represent a faction that is slowly taking over the forum and spreading an ill wind - to me it was just part of the day.

Surely when someone takes their car up the strip, they know the dangers that the strain of this puts on their engine? I applaud the driver for switching off all his electronic restraints and flooring his supercar against other budget-built cars in the spirit of the day.

For sure, if he had screamed up the track and walked it, I would have doffed my cap to the chap and my respect for he and car would have been deep. However, he ploughed it through the redline and dropped his gearbox on the track when others risked their much less exotic but no less loved cars and managed to reach a finish line which was just a quarter of a mile up the way.

Sorry, but man spend that much on a car and rag it like that - man take responsibility for garage bills when he breaks it, no?

That's entertainment!!!

From the pic in your sig, I'd say your car is looking pretty good with the kit on it Phil. I'm still waiting to have mine fitted

Some stunning pics their phil. I do like the one with the black and white background and the cars in colour. Your car just needs lowering now to finish it off.

Hmmm you may be right. Bearings have gone in front shocks so wondering about what to do, replace shocks, springs etc. Bit strapped for cash at the moment
