Scottish Summer Sunday Drive

Scottish Summer Sunday Drive - 25/05/2015 15:34

Sounding out for this after the great run through Moffat and the Borders last year...

Finding a handy mid-point is the main thing bearing in mind we've got [cloud9] in the north of England, Fife and the great Weegies (that we never see tongue ) - I think the Borders is great for a spin smile

Sunday 28th June through to Sunday 19th July doesn't suit me; any dates before or after then work for people?

Re: Scottish Summer Sunday Drive - 25/05/2015 18:00

Last year was awesome, great group of people. I'd love to tag along in the VX (again) but still on stork watch.
Will monitor this thread with interest and envy. smile

Not that I have a working Italian car, but I'll keep an eye out also. Work might get in the way, of course.

End of July into August would be no good for me.

Re: Scottish Summer Sunday Drive - 26/05/2015 10:29

This is probably too far north for everyone – depends what the spread of people around Scotland is I suppose – but my girlfriend runs a castle in the Cairngorms.

Makes for a handy stopping point if driving north and we can arrange access for some nice photos in the castle grounds. The Morgan owners and Caterham clubs usually stop there. It’s on the A93, which is a cracking road through the mountains.

That was the Roddyn castle meet wasn't it? Complete with coupe poetry and a helicopter!

Well, Laura’s castle is a lot smaller than that … but the road is a beauty.

http://www.bvac.org.uk/thirlestane/

The Moffat show is 27th & 28th(so you could do the Sat Simon) and they have a drive on the same route we did last Summer.

I was at the Thirlestane show last year and it was very impressive. Absolutely huge range of cars and car clubs from all over Scotland, Military vehicles, machinery, stalls, activities and stuff for non petrol heads too.. Different league from the Scottish Italian car show.
Well worth a visit as a punter or as a Club ( free). Loads Great auto jumble Stalls. (I spent hours at them) They also have an arena where all cars clubs get to parade throughout the day. Check out the website.

Here is a Raw unedited Video diary straight off the camera to give you a flavour of the above mentioned event. Thirlestane show 2014

Think I may give it a visit again this year!

@ Graham. Good times. laugh cool
My Mrs and I can be seen in your first photo, about a quarter of the way in from the left. I see the legendary Graham and Penny far left too.

Different day but same era, if I'm not mistaken you're dead centre here in Nardini's...

This is really annoying! Second year in a row I won't be able to attend this, as Mrs Ed has arranged a family get-together for grandson birthing celebrations - no way out laugh

Used to do both Thirlestane and Moffat shows in my Porsche. Good days out.

Since there's a bit of everything in this thread so far... Anyone doing the Tartan Tarmac breakfast meet on Sunday morning?

+1

Last time there was a north Scotland meet opporchancity I have no recollection of and perhaps we could entice those usually too far away for our meets...MattB, jimboy, MRS for starters?

How about dates? I can only do June 21st then not until July 26th...

Yep, I’ll be along there for a bit. Need to get back into Glasgow in plenty of time for the Gibson Street Gala though.

Tartan Tarmac are a bunch of ex-Pistonheads guys who wanted to start up something on their own to try and run/promote car events in Scotland.

On the last Sunday of every month (so, this weekend) they have a breakfast meet. It’s in one of the big car parks at Eurocentral, halfway along the mate.

There’s a Berits & Brown deli that opens for us all to get bacon rolls and coffees and we get some cracking cars along. About half-nine onwards. This month there will be some detailing guys on hand offering discounts on their products.

If you use Facebook, there’s an event page here.

Re: Scottish Summer Sunday Drive - 27/05/2015 13:45

Did someone say 'Cairngorms'!!?

(I might get the 'other' Italian car out for this!)

I'll be there, but I can't make the weekend of the 13th & 14th June or the 11th & 12th July.

Anyone doing the Tartan Tarmac thing? Or has this been covered on another thread?

Re: Scottish Summer Sunday Drive - 27/05/2015 14:14

I've started a new thread about Tartan Tarmac under the Events section.

Guys, don't miss this one! Last year was a blast and the scenery was spectacular. Don't think I'll be able to make it this year due to staffing problems but I hope you all have a brilliant time.
Barney, maybe catch up again next year mate.

Sorry for the lack of follow-up on this as too much on. I'll have to pass on 21st June as too close to leaving country.

Doesn't stop anyone else carrying on though or we could try for a date later.

Yes, fair enough- might give a bit of time to generating a groundswell of greater attendance...

I'm actually not even sure I'll have the car back for this weekend....

Er … this is awkward, but the castle’s off the agenda anyway. I broke up with the girl.

The A93 is still an amazing road.
