Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 04/09/2017 07:41

Hi All,

As newly appointed Midlands club rep I have started the ball rolling on securing club attendance at the 2018 Silverstone Classic which will provisionally take place over 20-22nd July next year.

The event has a lot to offer over the three days for the whole family, from racing to live music and much in between. Tickets don't go on sale until November so I am just getting in early to gauge the likely interest at this stage?

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 05/09/2017 05:08

Thanks for leading the charge here Pete, I don't think we've had a stand at this show in recent years.

Early interest from me!

Sounds like fun. Its the first weekend of the Summer Hols but if we are not going away I would be interested. Kieran

It's a great show, I'd definitely be interested.

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 09/09/2017 09:46

I am planning to go next year, missed the last one unfortunately but I usually go with the X19 club. If the Coupe is behaving itself, I would happily take that instead... Mainly because, after the last few I have been to, the Coupe is more water resistant than the X19! hehe
The campsite facilities are pretty good now, when I first started going, back when it was the Coys festival, they were a bit grim!
Earlybird club tickets are usually 2 weekend entrance passes plus a car pass for about £90 IIRC. Prices on the gate are about that per ticket per day! ooo

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 10/09/2017 18:04

Count me in! I'll be going next year for all 3 days anyway and it would be great to go with the Coupe Club (always been with Ginetta Club before)
Never seen a Coupe there before and as Pete says it would be more waterproof that the Ginetta! laugh
Earlybird club tickets are 2 for one and discounted.

Full weekend for me too, usually set off early and call at the Rugby Truck stop on the A5 for a full breakfast to give me the energy to pitch the tent!

I have camped at Woodlands for the last few years, there is a decent selection of food outlets which don't cost the earth and saves on washing up, live music (until 11pm) and bar - along with a decent shower block big enough so your not waiting forever for a shower.
Litchlake is pretty good too to be fair, but it is a bit quieter and not as many facilities. Whittlebury Hall wasn't bad either but its a bit of a trek into the main area of the circuit and the queues to get the car in are worse due to the location.

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 25/10/2017 13:02

Update regarding the Silverstone Classic 2018 as follows:

I have applied to register the club with the organisers and am waiting for them to send a specific code for FCCUK member use. One this arrives I will post an update.

In terms of pricing they are holding the 2017 price for those who book as 'super early bird' before 31/12/17, and I will post prices along with the code mentioned above.

For club bookings of 10 or more car club packages, the organisers can start to provide complimentary tickets for club members to use. In view of this I would like to gauge opinion from those interested as follows:

1) Do those intending to go wish to book their own tickets via the website? OR

2) Shall I collect the names and confirmation to attend and then complete a group booking?

Option 2 would be simpler for members, although there is a cut off date to ensure the best discount on the tickets.

More when I receive the code. A reminder of the provisional list so far

Further information about the 2018 Silverstone Classic.

There is no extra booking fee on top of the ticket price but a transaction fee will be applicable per order (not per ticket). Group bookings for more than 10 packages are available and upwards of 10 bookings is where we may start to get complimentary tickets.

I wouldn't bet on it Pete but she already chose Dom Rep for Honeymoon and Silverstone falls smack bang in the middle of the holiday. Hopefully Im home for a few other events this summer though and we manage to catch up with a few familiar faces from last year.

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 16/05/2018 17:37

The Silverstone classic weekend is really shaping up to be a great event. As well as some great motor racing the live music over the weekend includes Soul II Soul and UB40. There is also a fair, shopping village, and even a number of air displays taking place. When I think about how much I spent to get into Brooklands this year there isn't a great deal of difference in price, but a world of difference in relation to the organisation and attractions. Four club members have confirmed so far- can we get any more? Its looking likely to be a memorable event...

For those attending the organisers have produced a vehicle factsheet template, in case you want to display a few details about your car https://www.silverstoneclassic.com/__media/Docs-for-download/SC18-Car-Club-Fact-Sheet.pdf I already have a factsheet and folder of restoration pics that I put out when displaying Doris- its not mandatory.

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 01/06/2018 12:17

Tickets for the club stand now closed.

According to the list above there will be 4 of us on Friday, 7 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday so not a bad turnout!

Will post up further details once I know where our stand will be located, along with any other info as required thumb

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 29/06/2018 07:47

For those attending the Silverstone Classic the organisers have just released the site map for the event. We are in blue zone 8. This appears to be a really good location and just across the road from the Ferrari and Alfa club stands- so their cars will be in good company this year lol.

I am setting up a forum email group for the attendees and will get further information to you as it comes in. If you are happy to give me a personal email address I can get all the maps and other information across to you more easily than posting it on this thread.

The tickets/infield display passes etc will be emailed out via the organisers over the next two weeks.

I have the club flags and gazebo/shelter which I will be setting up on the Thursday at some point so all will be in place for Friday morning.

Not long to go now!

hi all,
If anyone has bought tickets for this event but can no longer attend, or knows somebody that is selling some please let me know as I would be very interested in buying them. I know they are still available from the Silverstone website but the boss (swmbo) has said they are too expensive frown therefore ill only get to go if I can find some discounted tickets.
thanks in advance
regards

Unfortunately the display vehicle entry tickets are for a specific vehicle Nick.

You may have some luck with a general entry ticket, but it won't get your coupe onto the club stand though we will be pleased to see you anyway.

Really cheeky question but is anyone going who has the laptop diagnostics and would they care to bring it along? There may be a liquid inducement involved .. wink

I'd like to attend on the Saturday if possible

It's too late to have your car on display, but you can still buy general entry tickets from Silverstone on line.

Here's a link.

Having never camped at Silverstone before - is it just a free for all? Weather's looking good :-)

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 18/07/2018 07:03

If you are camping at Woodlands I am told it is really clean and well organised. Close to the circuit with a few shuttle bus and all the usual amenities

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 18/07/2018 11:06

After years of b&bing locally, we camped at Litchlake Farm last year. We booked pre-pitched tents through Pillow Motorsport but there was a mix of tents and campervans on the site.

There's a footbridge from a corner of the field over the road to the circuit.

I don't know about Woodlands but Litchlake are saying they're booked up but there are a few spaces left first come first served. Here's a link...

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 18/07/2018 15:53

I'm on the club package that includes the camping pitch so must state somewhere the location but unable to view them at the moment.

Cancel the above - I'm at woodlands so will have to get on the stand first then take my kit over to the pitch.

I'm booked in at Whittlebury park, will be arriving later today, not camped there before but it has good reviews.

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 20/07/2018 15:06

Peeps - may not make this as I've got running / firing problems after trying to change leads and I'm hoping to resolve but it's chucking it down. Note to self - should have left well alone without tinkering before a big event grr I'll keep you posted.

Heading your direction tomorrow .. yipee

Fingers crossed then. It was hot sun for all of day 1 but it honked it down with rain while the bands were on!

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 22/07/2018 18:04

BBR - you're right and BP made the same observation this morning. If we had an LE then that would have completed the set.

Good weather made for an enjoyable weekend all round. A group of South Africans (Fiat and Alfa nuts with their own museum and who had flown in just for the weekend shocked ) were seeking a mint 20vt for their collection as it's the only one that's missing - apparently they were never imported to SA. Sorry I missed BP before he set off on his holiday so hope he has a good trip to Italy and everyone who attended the weekend gets back safe and sound smile

Forgot to say sorry DDouble if you got back to your car and found we'd packed up and gone. Glad I darted off at 1545hrs as the local roads were already getting snarled up frown

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 22/07/2018 19:10

Pete, well done for organising this, just a shame my Coupe never made it.
Had a quick chat with G-Man whilst looking at our great display.
I have just got back home after a great weekend of being soaked inside and out one night and toasted the next two days. Great cars, good racing, plenty to see and do. Here's to next year.

Re: Silverstone Classic 20-22 July 2018 - 23/07/2018 18:41

Glad everyone enjoyed the event- whether it is 1,2 or the full three days this show is hard to beat in terms of organisation, atmosphere and sheer amount of stuff to do. The Coupes were much admired over the course of the three days, it's always great to meet coupe owners (and their cars) and looking at the size of some of the other club stands made me want to grow our numbers next year. So I will definitely be organising the club stand again and think it would be a good midlands venue for a future AGM.
