Carlisle Xmas Meet Saturday 15th December 2018

Time to start getting names for the Carlisle Christmas Meet

For anyone who hasn't been before, we all meet up in Carlisle, go for a few drinks, go to Rob40's excellent Italian restaurant for food and drink Peroni on draught : http://www.lamezzalunacarlisle.co.uk/ have more drinks, stay overnight, meet up in the morning for breakfast/coffee, etc., go shopping/home, etc

You don't even have to turn up in a Coupe, as long as you're prepared to talk about them and the Club/Forum a lot, then you're welcome

I decided against the Crown and Mitre - nice place but they made no effort to sort out their cock up on the pre-booked parking beyond pointing me at a public car park. Bah.

Please remember that Robs restaurant is his business/income which he relies on, so I'd like to make sure we don't let him down on numbers when he could be booking bigger, confirmed parties in at prime times and could move us to a later time if there's not many of us.

I know it's still a few weeks away but anyone travelling past Lymm services (M6 / M56 junction) on the Saturday want to meet up and travel in convoy to Carlisle?

Is that north of the A66? My route will be avoiding roadworks on the M1 and M62, so across to the A1 and then turn left at Scotch Corner.

Ach I'm still Coopless. Made it down a couple of years ago on the train.. Still want to this again accompanied with my Coop. Have good one you all...

I'd rather not tie myself down to a time yet regarding meeting up and also find convoys are more tiring than travelling alone I convoyed up with PorkyPaul once and it was hard work

Ah... the good news is, Rob's place is just across the road from the station. The bad news is, on previous occasions, we've barely started eating by then...

A few of us will meet at the Howard Arms up Lowther St (about 400m from La Mezzaluna) before gravitating down to Rob's.

Btw Theresa what time is the meal booked for?

Guys, and galls, I'll check when I get in but I think your table will be ready from 7.30 and the meal from 8pm, gives you time to settle in and have a couple of drinks.


No adverse weather on the forecast so anyone driving should be fine.

Only I've had this new grandniece for a week now and still haven't seen her, so we're planning a visit on the way home.

I may break the habit of a lifetime and come up in the Bravo rather than the Coupe tomorrow - it has the snow tyres fitted.

Don't know about our mode of transport... abarth or volvo but certainly not the coupe its tucked up in the garage til march.

Latest update is that the snow seems to be forecast from the afternoon, turning to rain on Sunday.

Hope everyone has a safe journey but please don't take any unnecessary risks, there's always next year's 10th anniversary to look forward to if you feel it's safer to bail out this time.

Bravo, M1, M6 - not the way I would have preferred to do it but it does *not* look a good day to come across the A66 in a coupe on summer tyres... even Shap might be interesting but at least it should be cleared.

Rob, if you can try and arrange that the river doesn't flood this year please?

Folks - really sorry but after looking at this morning's forecast predicting 2-5 cm snow on the M6 plus gales and freezing rain then I'm going to dip this. For those brave souls driving to Carlisle do take care and have a great time!

I'm still in my pj's and drinking coffee while debating whether Robs food is worth taking the risk for again.

I plan to leave about 11.30am and see how things go

Remarkably, we've had very little rain to worry about so far.
Typically, it's been fine driving weather for weeks now, until today!

Still dry here, no hint of anything yet except a chilly breeze.

Sorry Rob (and everyone else); I'm going to have to drop out. I'm not super keen on travelling if the weather is to be bad, coupled with feeling decidedly ropey the last couple of days and not much better today.

Nothing falling yet around the Sports Man pub but its getting darker. Hills have started to disappear to the west.
I'm probably going to go into Penrith earlier and wait for my train...

Sky is a little grey here but not snowing yet - setting off at 2.00 for a leisurely drive....

Except for the usual wind, sleet and rain, weather is fine here in Carlisle

We is here, eventually. Found the A66 closed as we got to the A59 so came across via Skipton, and for complicated reasons involving the satnag and some closed roads, Shap.

Snow on the tops and ice lying in the road junctions for some reason.

Mucho respecto for those who made it May have been a bit of an over reaction from the Met Office but had to make a judgement based on the prevailing weather alerts. Shame I missed it but fingers crossed for next year

A crap journey to Carlisle, but I've been through worse to get there Thanks to all who made it and was lovely to see you again

Gutted that some of you couldn't make it

Just got home after a long day, glad to hear everyone got home safe and sound.

As always, its a great pleasure for myself and the gang to see you all again over the Christmas period. The staff always look forward to you coming for dinner and commented it wouldn't be the same without 'the coupe club gang'

Hope this year's Novello goes down ok with your Christmas roast. Jack, I forgot to give you yours as you legged it for your train so I'll keep it for when you next pop in with your mum.
