The route basis is

B797 to Leadhills, lunch at Mining Museum
Wanlockhead, continuing on B797
Continue via B797/A76, tea at Drumlanrig Castle

Hello

That's something that I would be interested in, weather permitting. I've had all my jabs and booster. Is there anything else I need to cross the border ?

Typical Coupe style, checking over things and it looks like a small coolant leak. It’s at the drivers side, I think it has all the hallmarks of a duff coolant cap, new one on the way, hopefully that’ll do the trick.

Website suggests not.

Re: S. Scotland Day trip 3rd April - 25/03/2022 21:34

Ok, here's the amended itinerary - I've deleted the original one so there's no confusion.

COUPE DAY OUT, SOUTH SCOTLAND - SUNDAY 3rd April 2022

Meet up/assembly would be at Hyndford Loch (aka Lanark Loch) car park ML11 9BJ (opposite HiQ Tyres) which is on the outskirts of Lanark on southbound A73.

1000
Leave Lanark on A73 South

At Hyndford Bridge Turn Left on A73, continue South to Abington approx. 15 miles.
All meet from A73/A74/A702/M74 at Abington Services at rear of petrol station. (25 mins) c.1030 hrs

Take A702 to Abington Village
In Abington Turn Right on to B797 for Leadhills ML12 6UT (20 mins)

c.1100
Coffee stop Leadhills Mining Museum
In Leadhills at the Mining Museum there is a tea room where we can have a refreshment stop.
In addition to the Mining Museum there is a working Beam Engine as well as a narrow gauge railway
Good photography

Hello Everybody

I'm afraid that Valerie and I won't be coming on Sunday.

I hope that you have a good day, and we look forwards to another opportunity.

Re: S. Scotland Day trip 3rd April - 02/04/2022 09:53

Aye there will be other times Paul. Yesterday and today I’ve been cleaning my Coop ending with a ceramic spray. Looking pretty shiny, takes ages though. I’ll be up at 5am fiddling about, then off at 6am. The A9 is one of those roads that you never know what it entails, and of course the dreaded yellow peril cameras, so easy to make very good time and get carried away spending the next 2 weeks keeping an eye on the mail. Hopefully an easy run down and see you all tomorrow…….. driving

Re: S. Scotland Day trip 3rd April - 03/04/2022 21:13

Well done Jim, quick work indeed - 3.5 hrs from Abbotsford thumb

Great effort all round especially after some unexpected food/coffee-related problems mid-morning (Leadhills and Wanlockhead closed)

After that the weather held up, good lunch and chat at Moffat then a leg-stretch at the Grey Mare's Tail along the big glaciated valley on the road to Selkirk. Cuppa at Abbotsford House then home smile

And...

Although the trip did its best to replicate that devised by George, seasonal closures were to cause route deviations by mid-morning; it was nice to know that his two lads were up for joining us and I'm sure he would have approved of our eventual choice - RIP George thumb

Re: S. Scotland Day trip 3rd April - 04/04/2022 07:10

Thanks for the photos Simon.

Cars and the countryside look great, but the drivers look chilly, not cool.

If only we had come, you needed a slower, but red coupe !

Best wishes to everyone

Re: S. Scotland Day trip 3rd April - 04/04/2022 11:15

Good photos there Simon. Quick wash of the Coop and dried, tucked up in my garage. Unfortunately it has sustained a couple of battle scars, two gouges to the near side sill. I did hear a few bangs to that area while tailing Simon car weaving our way on the Lanark twistiest. Yet another thing to address on the Coop. banghead

Re: S. Scotland Day trip 3rd April - 05/04/2022 15:09

Great day out and great to see everyone. Sorry I had to scoot off early but did manage to have a good run back across on to the M74. How was the rest of the afternoon to Abbotsford House?

Re: S. Scotland Day trip 3rd April - 05/04/2022 16:12

Great driving road Brian along there, quite dramatic scenery. Abbotsford itself is an interseting place to visit, if you're into Walter Scott and that sort of thing, and there are good walks along the Tweed.

The tea was ok in the café but the cakes were minimal and mine was stale as hell!
