Roly, I was actually thinking of suggesting a joint meet with you Yorkshire boys as I noticed you're still trying to get something sorted.

Not sure what everyone else thinks, but maybe we could meet halfway somewhere?

I barely know Ripon, but I do seem to recall that the town centre itself is bad for traffic and parking.

Is there somewhere on the outskirts we could meet?

Well following on from our tour of the lead mines, we need to keep up NE COC's tour of historic & interesting places.

There's Fountains Abbey & Newby Hall close by to Ripon. Newby Hall is worth a look round but doesn't re-open until 1st April.

Never been to Fountains Abbey - is it worth a meeting up there rather than in the centre of Ripon?

I actually went to Fountains Abbey two weeks ago when I went to have a look at my new toy which was near Ripon so I can vouch for the following.

1. Not too far from me!
2. Reasonable amount of parking (although beware that it looks like there are two separate entrances depending on which way you enter from).
3. Big ruin to walk around, walk around potential, enough space to sneak a footy in and have a kick around (can bring my industrial strength Neoprene knee support to protect my dodgy ligaments!).
4. Large cafe to sit around in.
5. Lots of twisties to get there.

Newby Hall looks like there more to do though IMHO. I'd also have to actually drive past the house where I bought my new toy from so would be a trip down memory lane for the motor.

If your looking round Ripon etc i would be up for this, but will someone PM me when you have made up your mind when and where.

If i'm available i would be up for it. As long as it doesnt involve, freezing cold temperatures, fells, or gale force winds (again)!

If you don't want windy and freezing you should be looking to attend a soft Southern meeting.

We 'always' end up on the moors. you gotta love those roads.

is it me or does a 'meet' have to be a huge drive / day out cant we just do something smaller and more regular?

There's no reason why we couldn't, if people were up for it, but there might be problems attracting enough people to a regular do.

I suppose we could have a meet in a pub on the 1st what-ever day of each month or something and change from pub to pub so that it doesn't always end up with the same people driving miles.

OK, throw my hat into the ring ... how about the 2nd Tuesday of each month?

Edited to add: Which would be a spectacularly bad choice, because the 2nd Tuesday next month is Valentine's day.

How about the 3rd Tuesday then and have the first meet somewhere in Newcastle?

Just a suggestion but the 3 mile inn in Gosforth has a big car park and its a decent pub!

Right,as this is a non starter for Tues night I am taking the coupe out for an extended drive next sunday (26th) to Whitby. Hoping to park in the car park on top of the cliff close to the Cook statue. Should anyone fancy a micro/mini meet either post here or may see you there on the day. We were hoping to be there around lunchtime.

Weather and gardening dependant, we may see ya in Whitby.

I'm now a maybe as my plans this weekend may have to be cancelled (was going to visit brother in Wolverhampton but he has flu (?) so maybe not good idea). Will not know until late so will let you know.

Sh*t has hit the fan at work so needed to be in this morning. Consequently only got 2 hours of Thomas the tank engine related fun while evryone else got all day.

Pag, FYI the parking right next to the museum is 7 f**king quid (and only takes coins but tokens can be bought at the front desk) so a park and ride may be advisable if you can stand the hassle. The queues for rides look pretty horrendous but mostly go down fairly quick. I only had time for a ride on Percy and didn't get to meet the fat controller

Panic, sh*t has hit the fan badly enough for me to be getting a train to London tonight and fly out to San Jose in the morning so Whitby is going to be a touch difficult.
At least the weather should be nicer.

Thanks for the update Dave, but will probably be giving Thomas a miss if the weather is the same tomorrow. A trip to see Chicken Little now looks more likely.

Fantastic day had by all,well us anyway. Nice bracing sea breeze (fccuking freezing) great fish and chips at the magpie in Whitby and on the way home we stopped at Sandsend and got drenched as the waves were breaking over the sea wall. Now that was cold. Coupe behaved impecably. Must do it again sometime.

i was in Whitby from 12 til 1420 but didn,t see any coupes and yes it was brass monkey weather,where did you park?

parked in the West cliffe car park,next to capt cook statue.

Yes I know the way! Sh*t is proper hitting the fan here (otherwise I wouldn't have been sent out on a days notice).
All the way to California and it's p*ssing down, at least I still only need to wear a T-shirt though
