Auto Italia Concours- June 01st Stanford Hall

Hot on the heels of this weekends Brooklands Auto Italia event we have the Conrours Event at Stanford Hall. If anyone has any advice on this event, or pictures of the set up I would be most interested to hear from you.

I am now in possession of the club Gazebo and banner, and hope to give the club a similar presence as we had at Brooklands today

unfortunately I won't be going due to the coupe being off the road and lack of funds, any spare cash i have is going on the coupe!!
I've emailed you the details I've had off Phil Ward.
He basically has said we can enter 3 coupes in the concours event but they must be completely standard.
Judging by the standard of cars they get there the coupes would have to be of a very high unmolested quality!!!
I'll happily keep emailing Phil Ward and arrange this even though I won't be going.

It was a pleasure meeting you all today, what a great turnout by club president Begbie and almost the entire committee

Weather was perfect - don't forget the cream for your nose, Barmybob and I can't wait to try my new tyre pressure gauge that Ed sold me from the club shop.

Friend's dad will be entering his Alfa 33 into the concours - the thing is absolutely mint - completely original and totally spotless.

can't say how gutted I am not to be bringing the coupe this year, never mind be back better next year!!

Won't be the same without you Dave but I know you'll be there next year - bigger and better than before.

OK Boys and girls

We have been given the opportunity to have three Coupes entered into a concours event at Stanford.

The three Coupes MUST be of Standard production appearance and, if we want a chance of winning any prizes, be of display condition.

Ideally we need to know who will be entering this competition so we can submit details to the event organisers.

Well that's me not entering the Concours - full Zender bodykit.

Ill be coming to this, although not entering the competition though as mine is far from standard (externally anyway!)

Mr L and I are going to take a bbq along if the weather is nice. Does anyone know if there are any rules against this at Stanford Hall?

I'll pop along in the afternoon, just don't look at my bubbled rear light rings & my cracked LE lips.(it will be in the bodyshop in a couple of months)

I will be going but in my Alfa rather than my Coupe and my Dad is taking his 575M.

the fiat forum usually have a BBQ there so shouldn't see a problem however I'll email Phil Ward to check just in case. I think so long as there is no messed left it should be ok.

Interested in this, and if you're still after someone for the concours my red LE is externally mint (full respray and wheel refurb just a few months back) is internally "very good" and "good" underbonnet. The car appears totally standard but is slightly lowered (30mm) and tuned.

I'd be interested in going anyway - its in my diary

I wouldn't describe my car as MINT altogether. Its a 20,000 mile a year daily runabout. Externally its unmarked and appears MINT. If you want to start looking under arches and underneath though you're going to get a shock!

Myself and my good friend Dave from Essex(he's on here too) are tempted to make an appearance, went last year in my Bravo and it was an ok show. Think BBQ's are allowed if they are kept off the grass (couple of bricks in my case ;))

All Coupés are welcome, there are only 3 going on the concours stand. Mine is far from standard/concours. It'll just get a wash, polish and hoover out before I turn up and that's it.

Hey, James, if I drive mine up to the midlands, perhaps you'll get confused about which one you're supposed to be washing

Bob, will the club be able to look after all the detritus that normally kicks around the footwell/cubbies/boot?

Don't worry about the standard of your car, you should see some of the old wrecks that turn up!

I've arrived at Stanford at about 11 before and had no trouble getting in and parking with the rest of the Coupes.

Some git's run a gouge into my rear nearside bumper (kid on a bike, I suspect). Not a happy bunny at the moment...

Due to a change in plans, looking for accomodation. Anyone recommend somewhere pretty close?

Lutterworth is the nearest small town, just off the M1 and only a few miles from Stanford. There are loads of other sites if you Google "accommodation Lutterworth".

I can't vouch for anything in particular as I've not stayed in any of them. I guess it depends what you're after too - pub, B&B, hotel etc

The polishing has started already!

I've just been out and polished the plastic of my rear lights. Meguiars paintwork polish has brought them up from dull, faded lumps into super glossy minters that look like boiled sweets - yum!

I've also attacked the works bits of grime - in the door shuts and around the inside of the bootlid. Much better now

I've heard a rumour from the Fiat BOO forum that Jeremy Clarkson and crew will be there in their latest challenge cars. Don't know how reliable that info is, but would be interesting if its true!

Me too mabr, but i am being sent to Falkirk from the 30th for a week and that should pay for a mamouth motormech makeover.

next year or next meet, as i feel i will soon have a little more freedom in life

Right, I thought I'd make a list this afternoon of all the "little jobs" I need to do to get the car in as good condition as possible for next weekend.

Here we go;

Outside;

Remove all wheels, and clean/repaint inside wheel surfaces.
Paint the rusty bits of the discs
Repaint brake calipers (in situ) all round. I've got some Brembo transfers somewhere.
Clean and re-underseal the rear arches and the metal parts of the front arches.
Very good underbonnet clean.
Collect and fit new foam "wedges" (by front wings)
3-step Meguiars treatment for the paintwork (and wheels).
Meguiars tyre gloss on the tyres

Inside;

Clean/wash headlining
Gliptone the seats (lots)
Go round all the door edges/closures/locks with a toothbrush and get rid of as much gunk as I can.
Give it the hoovering/cleaning of its life (I might even put a new hoover bag in )
Lots of Vanilla silicon spray for the interior.
Use Autogylm glass polish on the windows - inside and out.
Silicon spray on all the plastic bits.

The trouble is, I'm SURE that the more time I lavish on the car, the greater the chance it will rain on show day. Typical sods law. I'm sure that law exists.

I might just chuck all the cleaning goodies in the boot and do it when I get there - better chance of good weather that way.

hope it's nicer than last year for you all, we had monsoon weather on the M6 on the way down the day before!!

Unfortunately I'm looking doubtful for this now. My friend who lives in the area is tied up with the arrival of his son from Thailand after a 3 month visit, and I'm pretty busy with funeral preparations for my grandmother who unfortunately passed away this week.

We'll see how it strikes me on Saturday. If the weather is glorious and I feel I need a few hours out of the house for some fresh air I might pop down.

Then again, the link suggests it is Alfa only... wouldn't be surprised if they binned the coupe idea.

Right, I've just finished giving the car a good clean and polish. I've used some of that Harly wax and I must say I'm very impressed.

As sure as eggs is eggs it will start raining in about 10 mins and not stop until about 5.30 tomorrow (or whatever time the show finishes).

Just cleaned mine and it looks lovely, Will i have issues parking with the club if i turn up around 11:00?

A massive collectiob of coupes turned up - great to see. And to see the red LE get a prize was great! It was stunning !!

Also I followed clarkson round a bit. A nice lady asked him about the fiat coupes and his reply was something like

" I know, I have one. A 20V turbo. It is going to be on the next series of top gear "

Really enjoyed today meeting most of the other coupe owners, quite good fun seeing the top gear filming and the masses following them around...

Great turnout for this show and being my first one I hope I can be forgiven for such a shite dirty engine bay. Seeing others gleaming has given me the kick up the arse needed to get the coupe looking good.

That old boy who owned the Enzo was a champion. He arrived fashionably late, blipped the throttle all the way over to the Ferrari section, bagged it up on the grass, then casually stepped out and mumbled something about how it's bad for his back getting in and out of an Enzo

It was a great day out, and a strong showing for the coupes! I've got some photos I'll post up a bit later.

Another good meet, nice to see everyone again.
It didn't seem that sunny today but i certainly feel as if the sun got me.

Well what a great day out that was

First off the Committee would like to offer thanks to people. To those of you that helped out on the day, to those of you who helped with the organising and planning and also to our three concourse entrants.

There was a great club spirit today and I hope we are able to carry this forward to other events throughout 2008 and into the future

To be honest we expected about 15 – 20 Coupes today, so we were completely blown away to have counted well over 30 I had only printed 30 entry forms for the show and shine competitions

Club president Alexis (Begbie) and Mrs BB spent several hours looking over ALL the coupes and scored each car on a number of points in the following catagories, Exterior, Interior and Engine bay.

The winners were;

Exterior = MR C
Interior = carphone
Engine Bay = Cowboy

Each winner received a winner’s shield

We also had the peoples vote. All in attendance voted for the car that they would most like to go home with. This was very close with the cars of Jap and Cowboy running a close second, but it was the red LE belonging to TrevM that took the prize, well he didn’t actually take a prize because we forgot to bring it, it will be sorted though

Oh and I too have a red face, it must have been the flames on the BBQ

And for those that didn't attend - I passed on a fccuk card to none other than Jeremy Clarkson, so he may pop in....

It was nice to meet a few of you today. The Concourse cars were fantastic to see. I'll have to do better with mine next time. Roll on the September event at Gaydon.
I have to admit that I was one of the morons blindly following the Top Gear filming.

So glad I could make this, it was a great day! And I won a prize! Looking forward to the next one! Mr C

Took a few pics myself today. A great day, I didn't really stick around for long though. I was very impressed with everybody's coupes, some of the engine bays were immaculate...very jealous!

Stanford Hall Photos

What a superb day. Great location, great company, great motors, great weather and a fantastic turnout. I counted 37 coupes at one point! I've been going to most Midlands events for years now and that was the best by far.

To win a trophy blew me away! - I thought (right until the moment I was beckoned forwards to collect the cup) there had been some terrible mixup or the whole thing was a joke. Amazing!

Many thanks to the organisers - the gazebo and club banner looked great. Thanks to those who got the barbeque lit as well - the kebabs were great.

James, if you want it I have a full-res version of your pride'n'joy on its way to collect the prize that should've been mine, y'git

Hi guys and girls just a quick note to say what a great day it was I really enjoyed it, my black LE will be back next year and I will even open the engine bay next time. Think the red LE that won the concourse is the bench mark for next years turn out. Also thanks to Richard for the 2 coupe convoy up from Banbury and then to the Alfa spider driver who I followed onto the M6 and left him for dust :-).

Oh did anyone see the red 16v "Rat look" coupe that had parked down by the Alfa's that was fairly busted up??

Just to echo what Bob said earlier, brilliant turn out of coupes yesterday, was really good to see 30+ coupes all looking gleaming and shiny

Big thanks to Bob for setting up the gazebo / banner / bbq / supplying the food whilst someone (me!) overslept Needless to say i managed to make it from Guildford to Stanford hall in just over an hour and a half, but took me over 3 hours to get home, bloody things in the road and people breaking down, grrr...

Well done to Jap - I showed my mate's Dad around your car at one point, he's won Alfa Concours prizes 9 times in the past and was very impressed with the standard of your car.

Also well done to FCCUK - really good organisation and presence.

I think two of the three TG guys left with club cards, Clarkson got two - Taffy - your young lady wasn't backwards in handing them out!

As mentioned before a very good day, I came along with a friend and his Maserarti and spent nearly the whole afternoon walking around the looking at the various cars on display, and hardly spent any time in the FCCUK area . Was surprised so see so many of us to be there as well, apologies for not speaking to hardly anyone other than a quick hello to Neil (Barnacle) and then a quick goodbye to Begbie & Barmybob.

Congratulations to JAP for picking up the his award, I noticed the compare classed the Coupe as a "Modern" Fiat

just to say thank you to you all for making me feel so welcome. I'm new to coupe ownership and it was nice to meet other owners and see other cars. It was nice to see a good turn out and the weather was dry other than the small shower we had.

the club concourse competition we had was good fun and it was nice to get ideas for what i want to do with my car next.

When we next have a Club meet get yourself to the tent and introduce yourself to those hanging about there. Normally it will be Ed, Begbie, PeterP, Bockers, Barnacle and other well known forum peeps too. You might even see me but I have a tendancy to walk off and leave Mrs BB watching the stuff

Good to meet old friends again and put faces to names too - I didn't know Begbie either. Finally managed to get hold of some Club stickers which are now in the side windows.

Clarkson and co really did put in an appearance which was a bonus but the highlight (which I missed) was hearing that Phil Ward said it was nice to see an unmolested coupe winning the concours (referring to Jap's LE) - James have you had the heart to tell him how molested it really is?!!!

Thanks to everyone there for making it such an enjoyable day.

I was talking to Jap's partner when she said "who brought you here"?, to which I replied "I drove, I am 28"!
I think she thought I was a bit younger than I am.

your black LE was stunning, mine needs a bit of TLC to get it up to your standard - from the outside at least he he.

No Vinci Greys on show though, which was a shame.

Now, has anyone else noticed in that photo the people who are standing on top of Stanford Hall? How did they get up there?

She was having lunch in the cafe with her mum and dad on the table next to me, but I didn't want to look like a complete Coupe perv in front of her parents by asking her who she was

Unfortunately as I had our fractious 2 1/2 year old and wife in tow I didn't get much of of a chance to meet anyone, we spent most of the time looking round the rest of the cars ( Enzo ) and buying ice creams

We also had to leave early as we had some tickets for the Kenilworth show.

SimonJ - its a Savage Universal slash cut backbox, running on a cat back pipe. I think its a 3 1/2" box, but ive had it on ages so im not entirely sure - dont think its a 4" though.

It tends to be a bit of a marmite exhaust - some people love it, some people think its too 'Jap look' for an Italian car, but I like it...

I did not bother to do the inside but after seeing what the deal is rest assured next year it will be doors and bonnet open, now to find a steam cleaner!! LOL

I wonder if they were security for the Top Gear presenters?

I saw them too. I think they were TV director type people. I didn't see any snipers......

I thought you and your old man had worked wonders on the Coupe, when you first posted a picture of it earlier this year I thought it was a bit of a shed...but seeing it in the flesh on Sunday has completely changed my mind. It's lovely and the wheels really work!

If anyone is interested, the photography company who were taking photos of the cars as they came in have now uploaded all of the photos onto their website. I went to take a look at them in the tent but thought the photo of mine was a bit naff, but I might just order a small one to scan in a work some magic in photoshop.

I know what you mean, that's why I never bought one on the day. The one of my car is really dull and there is a big green banner or something behind the car. A bit of work in photoshop though, adjust the contrast, clone out the green bit and crop the image, it might be a keeper!
