Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June

Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 06/05/2009 09:31

Following on from the success of the Brooklands event at the weekend, the next Auto Italia event is taking place Stanford Hall in Lutterworth, near Leicestershire on Sunday 7th June.

As always, the club will be there, well when I say the club, it will be just myself, as the event clashes with the Spa Italia event which has some of the board members going to and someone else will be on holiday rolleyes laugh

Info taken from Auto Italia's website :

Entries are invited for the Fiat and Abarth and Lancia concours competitions. Accepted entries will receive free entry

Last year this was my favourite auto Italia event and I am gutted that we are going to miss it this year frown

I am sure Mr Begbie would look to host another Coupé club Show and Shine event but he may need a little help.

I really hope this one manages to bust the 50 again cool

Think the website is referring to trade stalls when it says space is limited. Cars just drive up on the day, never had to book in the past.

First time there for me too in N91 PYM. Don't laugh at the car though, its far from Concours. Is the hall itself open as my wife would quite like to look round it?

The club has been asked by Auto Italia to submit three cars for the Councours competition.

If you are interested in entering your car please contact me as soon as possible.

what time is everyone pitching up on Sunday?

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 02/06/2009 11:15

Normally the cars age grouped together.

I understand that the Coupé position is the same as last year. Head up the drive towards the Hall and Coupés will be parked to the left backing the iron fence.

I think for those that are in two minds about tomorrow as regards the weather, if Concours & FCCUK Show & Shine will still take place, if the event will still go ahead given the likelihood of grass being churned-up/expensive cars getting stuck, etc, we could do with some kind of "official" line if any of the FCCUK organisers can enquire and advise please?

The show and shine will continue regardless. I don't have an email address for Phil Ward, so can't email him and find out what is going on, but from previous years the show still carries on.

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 07/06/2009 14:48

Well, I went in the end. There were some beautiful cars there but I have to say it was a real disappointment and, as someone who goes to a lot of shows, I was suprised how unfriendly it was. I parked up next to a yellow 16vt where the coupes were and twice said hello to the guy next to me who completely blanked me. I then nodded a hello to another owner (can't remember what car) who also blanked me. No one came up and said hello and I did try to mingle but to no avail. I've gotta say I was really disappointed because this forum is one of the best. frown

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 07/06/2009 15:09

In reply to Goonv8,
Im so glad someone wrote this before me and really dissapointed that i didnt meet you instead of the people that i did meet!!
Me and the girlfriend arrived and parked with the coops to find most owners sat in their cars, i also nooded to one owner who appeared to blank me. we immediatly got out of the car and walked over to the "fccuk tent" where there were two guys, i made a wisecrack about the tent (which in hindsight couldve been taken the wrong way) trying to break the ice only to have the two men turn their backs to me and tottally ignored!!!
Me and the gf went for a wander round then came back and managed to find the concourse lads who were exceptionally friendly!! credit to the forum especially the owner of the red LE trev??
All in all it was a badexperience and has put me off paying to go to future events!
Heres another idea too, why dont we all put some money together to buy a club banner at least because there was no way of knowing where we were from!

Also just to add, Ive been on many forums (Punto sports club, Fiat Forum etc)with my last cars and i have never had any trouble getting on with members face to face and everyone on here seem so helpful and friendly online! so what was the issue today

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 07/06/2009 15:20

Did you come and say hello to me? I was in my yellow 20vt.. I was very much in the same boat as you (as loud as I am, i'm quite shy) but Begbie came over and even knew who I was (which suprised me as I don't know anyone except Bob!)

Anyway..
On the way there I kept saying to my friend that I bet there will be literally 5 ferrari's turning up if the weather stayed the same.. And low and behold they proved me right.. Hurts the resale value if driven in the wet it would seem ;-)
Good turn out for the Maseratti's and the Alfa's (as usual for this show) despite there being quite frankly the chaviest looking 156 I have ever seen taking pride of place...oh.
Show was all in all a bit of a disappointment for me, especially seeings as I brought a Vw owner with me to try and tempt him away from another mundane vag show.. I'll let the weather take most of the blame for this one.

Dan (the one who thought it would be a good idea to wear shorts ;-) )

P.s.. Well done to the concours entrants.. All looking lovely despite the crap weather smile

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 07/06/2009 15:25

I think one of the problems at these events is that no body knows who anyone is unless of course theyve met before!! and it takes just one person to make the effort, i was immediatly put on the back foot after being snubbed as soon as i arrived

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 07/06/2009 16:08

Thats a shame Matt - I'd have talked to you if I were there! smile I noticed at last years Auto Italia event that the coupesters weren't overly friendly - the only person who talked to us was Barnacle who was very nice. I did go expecting everyone to kind of introduce themselves especially since my license plate says "FCCUK Mrs_LickyL" on it!! We ended up hanging with the Lancia people all afternoon who were lovely.

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 07/06/2009 16:23

Damn, I wish I'd seen you Matt. I was in the slightly shabby silver 16vt. It was definitely a guy in a yellow 16vt and not a 20vt (Was yours the one with black wheels?) I should maybe have made more of an effort but after two snubs, I thought no. My wife agreed with me,saying it was the first show that she had never had anyone come over and chat with us. A lot of people from the forum have been to my house such as Barnacle, SwiftPete, Darlo Nick to name but a few so know I am a friendly kind of chap. I think next time I will put a sticker with my name on it or something.

I did not notice at one point 2 fellas were the tent that werent fellow coupe owns, as far i was aware anyway, maybe thats who turned their backs or sniggered.

I've had a really good day, was worth the trip from Leeds, but i do agree the weather really did put a dampener on things. However the afternoon brightened up, and even more so when Mr C won best in class!

Goonv8 & Matt - Sorry that you didn't get the reception you wanted. As i was the only committee member there today, i could only be in one place at any one time smile The 2 guys in the tent, if it was whilst it was raining in the morning and looked kind of old, then these 2 were just using the tent and not part of the coupe stand. If i knew what you look like, then i would come over and say hello, as S2C found out (but that was mr_c telling me who you were) and Dan, shy? What was that about the hermaphrodite who you're fond of? tongue

Good to meet you today Phil, another face to the postings smile

Thank you to the people that did turn up, i think i counted about a dozen coupes in total, so not the best turn out. The weather turned out nice after midday when the sun came out.

Thank you also goes to Mr_C, TrevM and jas_racing for entering the concours and jas_racing for being the impatial judge of the FCCUK little show and shine.

TrevM won best engine bay
Taffy20vt won people's choice
Mr_C won best coupe (2yr running!) and best Fiat between 1990 and 2000.

As for the mug shot of me, will this do? hehe

I'm sorry to read some of these posts and I can only apologize for not mixing as much as I normally do, I was busy washing and preparing the car for the comp! I do believe that the weather didn't help in the beginning (we all got soaked even standing under the tent) and also the lack of exotica (again due to the weather).

The new people that I did meet today were great and when the rain stopped and we all started to dry out we all had a great time!

Still can't believe that I won the best fiat (1990-2000) because TrevM's red LE was stunning! smile

Hope everyone had safe journey's home, it took Nismo and myself nearly 3 hours to drive 86 miles! frown

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 07/06/2009 20:04

I thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the weather and poor turn-out, maybe because being a Concours entrant was an entirely new experience for me. Judging the Show & Shine was cool too and TrevM, Taffy and Mr_C thoroughly deserved their respective awards for their stunning Coupé's smile

I found everyone approachable and friendly - the rain initially made it hard work as people were sheltering from it and probably thinking "why the heck am I here?" more than "lets make friends" but none-the-less I found everyone to be fine despite me not knowing anyone previously. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to anyone who came up to talk to me/ask questions about the car (including MattCoupe smile )...I maybe even convinced one guy to buy a Coupé & join the club/forum! wink

It is difficult when you turn up at such an event as we rarely know what one another looks like until the day and are hidden behind nicknames on here but it's a two-way street for all concerned - however maybe for future events we should decide on a focal meeting/gathering point to use throughout the day and make sure all attending know about it beforehand but also attempt (time & other committments permitting) to "meet & greet" all owners as they arrive?

I'd also like to say a big thank you to Alexis (Begbie) for organising things as a lesser man would've looked out the window this morning and decided not to bother! smile

I bust a nut trying to talk to everyone at last years Auto Italia event, indeed I do at all the events I go to. I tend to spend so much time hanging about the tent and walking up to people I have never met, that I actually miss getting arround the rest of the show.

Last year I try to come and have a chat with you Mrs Lickyl, just after I took that photo I posted recently. When I said hello I got the distinct impression that you wished for me to leave, so I did frown

This friendly thing is a two way street and you will only ever get back what you are prepared to put in. If you come away from an event and can't name three other people that were there then I suggest that perhaps you wern't being as friendly as you may think wink At Spa this weekend I will be doing my best to meet and greet as many of the new faces as possible.

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 08/06/2009 07:41

Hey guys, don't want to make this into a big thing. We did have a list on here of who was going but perhaps we should get some id vinyl stickers made up or something or maybe have a text number to say, "Hello,we're here!" The gazebo was a good idea but as Matt said, there was no way to identify it was the club's. (After all, there were little pockets of Coupes dotted around) I'm sure that had I known who you were Begbie then we would have met. I know that a club rep's task is arduous and thankless. (I've done it enough times)

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 08/06/2009 08:13

I suspect poor Mr Begbie (Our club president) has not currently got a club Banner. We have been passing the banners out to our club regional reps, unfortunately none of them could attend Stanford this weekend frown

All the club regional reps are slowly being provided with a club Gazeebo and banner so you should see an official club presence at more UK car events.

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 08/06/2009 08:18

hi guys, I must admit, despite the weather I made it down quite early, found everyone to be quite friendly but was quite shy in introducing myself. Didn't quite know where to park either as I didn't know if the lineup of Coops were in the show or just parking there, I ended up at the bottom of the hill parked next to a very nice silver LE.
The tent was always empty when I made my way back, but I must admit I felt sorry for the guys trying to wipe off the raindrops in the pouring rain... so understood people were a bit busy.
Sorry I didn't get to talk to any of you, but will be at other events in the year, and will make a better effort when I get over myself.
Hi to the guy in the porto that was arriving just when I was leaving (headed off around mid-day, as I think we'd seen just about everyhting by then).

Sorry Bob but I had probably had enough by then. When you've been blanked all morning you're going to get a little peeved. I remember going to the club tent to ask for a pen from somebody to fill in the people's vote form for the show and shine and I was practically grunted at! I didn't mean to have a go at any one person and I know it's difficult to get round everyone etc etc. I remember going to the event before we'd even found this forum (back in the days when we had the 16v) and nobody from the coupe camp was very friendly then. At the time I thought it was because everyone was in the club and knew each other and we were outsiders. Now, however, I've been conversing on here for ages and thought we'd broken the ice a little. smile I think it's a distinctly English thing to be afraid to have the balls to go up and talk to people so perhaps I will try harder but when I did that last year and asked someone if they were familiar with the forum, they were really quite snobby with me and told me who they were like I should have automtaically known them (they turned out to be a well known member wink ).

In short, I'm sorry Bob.

Also, I can name about a dozen people from last years event - none of them coupe owners unfortunately so don't tell me I wasn't trying hard enough to be friendly tongue

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 08/06/2009 08:49

We got there about 9.30 in the pouring rain and didn't leave until about 3.30. However, this did have something to do with my 2 year old finding a rope swing in the woods which we kept having to revisit !

Not the best turnout ever for a Stanford Hall, but it was ok.

Re: Auto Italia - Stanford Hall 7th June - 08/06/2009 11:46

Ah, was that you parked next to me? I remember hearing someone say 'come on then, lets go to the park' and a little girl running over and grabbing my bonnet lol!

I'm jealous, If I knew there were swings I'd of been on them like a shot LOL.

Didn't turn up in a Coupe but when we came over to the tent everyone seemed very friendly and approachable, big thanks to Alexis for bringing along some bits for me and organizing in some really crappy weather.

Congrats to some incredibly straight and tidy Coupes - quite glad mine wasn't on the road as it would have been put to shame wink
