Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 05/10/2009 09:10
Well I guess its time to get the ball rolling for this year's Scottish Crimbo meet/dinner/luncheon/tyre kicking!
Last year's event organised by Baz was a success with us meeting in Ayr, going for a drive, and a meal at Troon.
Before I work out an itinerary for this, I was wondering if anybody had suggestions for a venue this year.
I guess the things to consider is that there are places to drive, is accessible for most folks, and of course fun!
I'm thinking sometime in mid December?

Rob, does your restaurant cater for xmas meals?

Re: Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 06/10/2009 10:35
Just spoken to Rob over the phone..
What does everyone think about having it at his restaurant in Carlisle?
That way we can include the Carlisle boys and those at the south to join us and have Rob as our lovely host :
La Mezzaluna We can either have ala'carte or the xmas menu. This years xmas will be up next week but heres last year's to get an idea..
Xmas Menu Having it in Carlisle would also allow us to have a good drive round the Lakes.
What does everyone else think?
P.S..Steamer.. just before you start to whine that its too far, theres free garlic bread!! yes.. F-R-E-E

Re: Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 06/10/2009 11:08
Roll up, roll up, xmas dinner with a difference.
I'll chuck in some homemade garlic bread and other little treats as a thank you for coming.
I've told the waitresses to brush up on their pole dancing techniques
Oh, did i mention topless service?
So, who's coming
Dont take too long to decide guys, bookings are coming in thick and fast so the sooner we have some numbers and dates the less chance of disappointment.
I can provisionaly book 15/20 for now, or more if needed, but need a date asap.

As I think others have mentioned it's a pretty dire month for trying to get free days together, but I'll keep my eye on this and if it's on a day I can make I'd be up for it

Re: Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 06/10/2009 11:32
ps I'd rename the title if it's going to be in Carlisle.. I only looked out of curiosity, wouldn't normally have thought about joining the Scottish meet with it being a bit far

Looking good so far guys
If the 20th is getting a bit too close to xmas for anybody, we still have plenty room on the 13th, just another option.
Angelo will be coming and JohnA to confirm.
Dave, see if the red 16vt owner fancies a quick trip to Carlisle for a couple of hours, if he hasn't bought that

Might or might not have my car sorted by then. If so, I'll try and make it although
the 20th is not the best date for me. It's my youngest sons 2nd birthday.
Posted By: Kelv27
Re: Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 07/10/2009 10:55
What better way to spend a 2nd birthday than to have a blast at the lakes!
Folks, Rob has booked us in for dinner at
7pm on the 20th of December. That should gives us plenty of time during the day to have a drive around.

If it's on the 13th, then not a problem, but the 20th is a bit awkward

Will be a bit of a tight one for me, it's only 25-odd miles away from me my mothers, but I'll be at work in Chesterfield the following morning. It may be a case of a late drive back down afterwards and a tired Monday morning...but no change there anyway.

Re: Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 21/10/2009 00:09
I'm keeping an eye on this too. Can't commit yet but really fancy it. What's the craic though? Meet Sunday sometime, go for drive, then stay for dinner/evening meal? Or do you have to stay over
(I know I don't come on here as often as I used to but...... Who is Scale's and where is his place)
You don't have to stay over Chris, you can go whenever you like. People like myself and cowboy, etc usually stop over due to the distance and being alcoholics
scal_LE33, rhubard, custard, etc all work/run/related to a pub in the centre of Penrith (can't remember the name of the pub now either)

Actually, due to distance and being an alcoholic, I think you should stop over too Chris

Re: Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 21/10/2009 13:39
Right, i've increased the max number to 30 as its easier reducing numbers nearer the time than it is to try and find room if we're full.
We normally charge a small deposit of £5 per person over the busy xmas period but this is obviously not going to be straight forward as everyone is coming from away so will not be asking for this.
I would therefore respectfully ask for a definite number by 13th december.
This should give everyone that has put their names down enough time to get sortd and to know what they're doing by then.
Hope this is ok with everyone?

Good routes there dave

Yeah the one through hallbankgate
Adusted route Probably don't want to be on the top if its blowing a gale but it would be nice on a clear (if cold) day we can all have cake and tea if hartside cafés open for lunch?

the portofino is heading to the garage again tomorrow to have the brake pipes done. going by the look on the mechanics face last week, im not looking forward to the bill lmao. today i noticed the brake compensator is unoperational aswell.
binding front brake problem solved by means of grinding the sides of the pads backing plate.
crossing my fingers that the guys who run the garage will pass it with the supposed "brake inefficiency". the front brakes are awesome at any speed and the handbrake holds perfect on my steep hill at home.

Re: Scottish / North England Christmas Meet 2009 - 08/11/2009 21:32
There is an IBIS hotel 100yds round the corner with secure parking and cctv covering the car park or The County Hotel, even closer, but maybe not as nice or modern as the IBIS.
There is also the Hallmark Hotel, right next to the railway station and about 100yds opposite so plenty of hotels within easy staggering distance of the restaurant

I'm working Saturday night and have some stuff to do Sunday morning, so won't be able to make the actual meet, as it's also approx a 2 1/2 hour drive up there.
I'll just get up there in the afternoon, book in at the hotel and see what happens from there

What a fantastic night well done Kelv & Dave for organising and also a big thanks to Rob for the great food.
I will echo what Baz said, that was the best Steak Rossini I have ever had, the sauce was to die for. Trish had a rissotto and she loved that too.
It is fantastic to be able to spend a weekend with such nice people (Friends) and it is just what we have come to expect from meets up here
Thanks all...

Guys and galls, thanks so much for the kind words.
My biggest worry was that you might have been stuck in the snow or not be able to make it at all.
It was an absolute pleasure seeing you all again and happy that everyone enjoyed themselves.
I reckon we've got one of the best clubs going, members become close friends, meets get better and more enjoyable and it makes the lousy traveling worth the effort. Hats off to you all.
Steamer, sorry you missed out on the party but hope you enjoyed the wee takeaway that Ronnie kindly offered to bring you back.
I managed to keep you some homemade garlic bread, some bruschetta bread with marinated chopped tomatoes.
I hope the fillet steak rossini wasnt too dry by the time it got up there and that the cream was still fresh on the pear and chocolate torte.
Ronnie, thanks again for your help in not depriving your friend of some of the treats of the evening, thats true christmas spirit.
Lakes meet? Bring it on
