Bristol Auto Moto Festival 2010 - 31/12/2009 01:54
Has anyone or is anyone organising a visit to this in 2010?
The date is
Saturday 24th April 2010.
If no-one's bothering to organise then I'll make my own arrangements but thought I'd check first.

I had no plans to organise this Craig and I've not heard anyone else mention it either yet.
Might be a few people who want to go with you though?

Good stuff.
I've just had an email from Paul saying that application details will be published in 2 weeks time.

I attended this last year. For anyone considering it, the day out was brilliant. All the cars which you would expect, plus lots of small cafes and shops to look around for the other half.
Don't think I wil make it this year as I want to get the car re-sprayed before I do anymore shows this year.

Got to agree. Last year was my 2nd year and despite the fact that I wasn't too well at all, it was still an excellent day (public thank you to Mr & Mrs Taffy for offering to polish my car
).
If you're into Italian cars per se then you'll see stuff here that you probably won't see at other Shows all year.
I'll give Joe a call on Monday and find out what's happening.

The 'BIAMF' website will be giving details on how to enter in the next few weeks-I get e.mails from the organiser. Last year my coupe was written off the week before the event (seriosly gutted) but definately taking my new 20vt plus this year. Word of warning - don't leave it too late because the spaces get filled really quickly.

Fantastic day out - bring the missus/family even they'll enjoy it! Plus they can always bugger off shopping if they get bored.
I'll be there again, might even bring the Coop this year!

Entries are now being accepted for this years event. Entry details are on

Yea they will be. I remember the first one I went to in 2005 - I was the only coupe there. It would be good if we can try and match the amount of alfa GTV's that are shown this year.

I'm interested in going to this and entering my car. Can someone tell me:
If I Exhibit, will I be free to leave whenever I want? the wife and kids want to come along too, but they are not going to want to be there all day. (And to be honest the longer they spend in the shops the more it's going to cost me
)
How much is the entry?
Will all the coupes be able to park together? Is someone from the club going to co-ordinate this?
Many Thanks

Re: Bristol Auto Moto Festival 2010??? - 20/01/2010 21:24
Mr_tickle we try and meet in the morning just outside Bristol so that we can all arrive and park together, late stragglers get placed by the organisers where they can so the earlier you can be there the better really.
As for exhibiting, it costs £5.00 per car this year and you won't be able to leave until afternoon I'm afraid. Last year we started leaving around 4pm so it's quite a long day but we have to be there early to set up before the public arrives.
I'm coordinating for the club this year so if you have any further questions please feel free to ask or check out the web link

Although you can't leave until they open the gates you aren't tied to stay by your car all day. When we've gone down before we usually go for a leisurely lunch at a near by Italian restaurant (If i remember rightly Marco's), do a bit of shopping and have a bit of a mooch around. By then it's knocking on going home time. If the weather is good it should fly by, if not... well you'd best hide your wifes purse!
I'd say it's probably the best car show going for taking the family to.

I was speaking with Paul today about the limited number allowed for the Coupes and he says there's a very good chance he'll allow more but he won't know until 2-3 week in February.
Seeing that we already have 10 confirmed places booked already if you're interested in coming along lets start a reserve/extra list. I was going to bring two cars again this year but changed my mind as I didn't want to be seen as hogging extra space
So to date the confirmed and paid list is:

As this is now less than 2 weeks away, I thought I would try and arrange a meeting place for those travelling east and over the bridge.
I suggest that we meet at either Macdonalds on the Coldra (Newport M4) or Magor services?
I believe that the entire group needs to meet just outside Bristol in order to park together, and maybe JOE can advise us on where and when?

Re: bristol meet - 13/04/2010 20:20
If most are doing M4 then M32 then there isn't really anywhere to meet before you get into the city centre. Could do M4 then M5 South and meet at Gordano Services. Its a bit of a detour but easy drive from there into Bristol.
Posted By: Anonymous
Re: bristol meet - 13/04/2010 20:24
Anyone not in Wales will want to keep away from the bridge (TOLL!!!). Gordano Services seems like the most convenient and it's on an exit so north or southbound on M5 it's a great spot. I'm up for this. I'll PM Joe and see what he thinks.
Sorry for the silence, I've only had time to lurk recently.
For all the guys travelling down the M5 the best route is along the M4 and M32 as it brings you straight into Bristol and you don't need to do the extra mileage along the M5 but if we are going to attempt a meet a good point would be the Texaco garage on the A38 after coming off junction 16 of the M5.

Joe, that petrol station is on the northbound side of the dual carriageway and would require going back on yourself twice to get going in the right direction. Might I suggest that you meet at the pub on the southbound side a little further back up the road?
Pub car parkJust a suggestion as I'm not even taking the coupe down there, but thought it might help...

Yes,whatever really....just let me know what is eventually decided.
Paul
I've asked Paul from BIAMF to confirm what time he wants us all there but from memory it should be around 7am so it looks to be an early meet at the garage. As soon as I've had a reply I'll update the thread.
Sam are you joining Phil and myself on the M5 somewhere, junction 7 would be good if you're going that route?
Fingers crossed that the car will be ready for this, if so will you be going down the M50 or jumping straight on the M5 Joe? I'll be up for meeting somewhere along the way.
Pending Sam's route I'm sure Phil and I could meet you at junction 2 of the M50.
Ok I've been chatting with Paul today and he's asked me if there's anyone who'd like to marshal?
If so you need to be in Bristol for 6.45am for a marshals briefing, your entry fee will be refunded and you'll also receive a free gift
Marshall's will be expected to be there to also see cars off so be aware it'll be a long day.
As for a time for the group to arrive and be parked, Paul says 7.00-7.30am so we can get a good spot, if we arrive later we'll be parked down a side street so it's important to take advantage of the placing.
I propose us meeting at the garage at around 6.30am, from there it's only 10 mins to Bristol.
What's peoples opinions?

I'll be popping down in the morning albeit not with my Coupe on display.

Re: bristol meet - 16/04/2010 22:04
I'll be at the the garage for 6.30!! At least there's no traffic that time of the morning!
That's exactly why I love early morning runs to coupe meets.
Doesn't matter which model I'm cruising down the motorway in, it's the empty motorway except the general lane hoppers, dawn sky and the road.
If the weather stays fine it'll no doubt be another great meeting like last year
If anyone hasn't received their Entry pack by Thursday can you please email Paul and let him know you've been missed off the list, his email is:
OurHeManPal@aol.com
Sorry for the silence, I've only had time to lurk recently.
For all the guys travelling down the M5 the best route is along the M4 and M32 as it brings you straight into Bristol and you don't need to do the extra mileage along the M5 but if we are going to attempt a meet a good point would be the Texaco garage on the A38 after coming off junction 16 of the M5.
Pace Patchway, Patchway, South Gloucestershire BS34
clicky click From here it's straight down the A38 into the old town and we should be on Corn street again.
What do people think?
Joe, that petrol station is on the northbound side of the dual carriageway and would require going back on yourself twice to get going in the right direction. Might I suggest that you meet at the pub on the southbound side a little further back up the road?
Pub car parkJust a suggestion as I'm not even taking the coupe down there, but thought it might help...
James
Thanks James, appreciate the info on the road layout
Ok we'll meet at the Travelers Rest pub, Patchways, South bound on the A38.

Sorry guys, I can't go. Something major has cropped up. Gutted.
Does anyone want my ticket gratis?
Sorry to hear this Dave, would of been good to of had an LE there
Sam might be after a ticket as he's left contacting Paul till the last moment and I'm not sure there's space for him.
I'll let him know if he doesn't read this.

Re: bristol meet - 21/04/2010 22:34
Thanks Joe, do let him know. I can send it first class tomorrow or failing that my friend (as of this moment at least) is still going so can take the ticket to be collected at the venue.
I'd need to let the organisers know of the car change, or is it maybe better to let them know to withdraw my entry and to re-do one for Sam?
bit last minute I know but don't want it to go to waste....
hope to do Brooklands the following week

Re: bristol meet - 22/04/2010 08:19
Thanks Joe and Dave, I'm not going to be able to make this one, I have two much going on with work over the next few days, I'm back up north on Friday and I just know i'm not going to get done what needs to be done
I suspect Monday will be a early start for me
Dave, thanks for the kind offer, and thanks for looking out for me Joe
Stupid work, missed far to many meets this year because of it
Ok no worries Sam, thanks for updating the thread and make sure you keep Brooklands weekend free or they'll be trouble
Lets see who else might like to come only who's missed their chance, if no one takes this place I'd like to reserve it for a member called Chalky but he's not 100% he can attend yet.

Re: bristol meet - 22/04/2010 11:31
Hi Joe, If no-one else can make it then I'll be able to take the spare place at short notice if necessary
James
Unfortunately it's looking unlikely I'll have the Coupe ready in time, real shame and a big thanks to Joe for going out of his way trying to sort it out in time!
All depends on if the local garage has time to squeeze in a last bit of work & MOT.
Either way, I'll be there but might have to borrow a car off the old man. If you see this come say hello...
Looks like this maybe filled now James, Rob from Carlisle has just rung to ask if there's room and Chalky has also sent me a pm confirming as Sam isn't able to join us.

So what happens with the ticket i have? any ideas?
Sorry, been mega busy in work today, think sending by post is out of the question!
I spoke to Paul about new tickets being issued and he said not to worry, the reg numbers were all he was after so I think we're all sorted now Dave

Just spoken to Paul from BIAMF, he's happy for me to take the Alfa down but it sounds like I'll be still parked with the FIATs. No bullying please for being the odd one out!
See what happens in the morning I guess!

Re: bristol meet - 23/04/2010 18:35
im coming to the show for the first time in my coupe, only as a visitor sadly where is everybody parking who is not in the line up, just visiting i understand the streets are closed off, had a look on google earth but cant find where visitors will park..! cleaned and polished my steel grey coupe!
would recomend just finding a multi-story somewhere close to the centre. There are plenty as it bang in the middle of the shopping area. We did that one year, was still a great day out!

Re: bristol meet - 23/04/2010 18:50
Hi mate, there's no 'visitors parking' unfortunately as the city centre is far too small. Your best bet is to try and find a space in an NCP such as the ones on Queen Charlotte Street (closest), Rupert Street, Wapping Road (behind the industrial museum), Trenchard Street or others.

Near miss of the day: Patch's bonnet trying to decapitate him
Best paint finish of the show: the Purple De Tomaso Pantera
Apologies to: the owner of the silver 20vt next to mine, I really wasn't worried by the oil mist from the "start your engines"
Best sounding 20vt,: the red 2.4
Thanks to Joe for organisation and Spit for excellent marshalling.

Well we got back late yesterday afternoon after an excellent weekend. Once again a fantastic turnout of 4 and 2 wheeled Italian Auto Exotica and some really nice classics (search has now started for a Fiat / Pininfarina 124!
Thanks to Joe for the organisation of the Club Stand and Spit for the excellent marshalling - no-one was getting near our cars without him knowing about it!
We kept popping back to the stand but kept missing people so apologies to those we didn't see.
Finally, a big thanks to Paul Hanmore and his team; without whom none of this would be possible.

Unfortunately, I've got other plans this weekend, a birthday do on Saturday, and the GTs at Silverstone on Sunday, otherwise it would have been a definite.
Thats the problem with summer, too much crammed into too few weekends!

Hi guys,
sorry for the late reply but spent the remainder of my time off in Halifax catching up with an old friend
and ripping up the Dales
The meet was a fantastic day out for me and so different to other car events in that it was in a city centre as opposed to a park, field, stately home etc. Well worth the journey from Carlisle and will definitely make the trip again next year.
A huge thanks to Joe, Adam and the family for making my stay so welcome and for topping off a brilliant day by inviting me to a barbecue at their home
Its always great putting names to faces and was a pleasure meeting you all.
I hope you all have a great time at Brooklands, i hope to get to that next year too.

Re: Bristol Auto Moto Festival 2010 - 05/05/2010 17:25
Just had a chat with Paul (BIAMF) about the event and told him I had no momento to remember my marshalling experience from festival.
He apologised (he is a nice guy) and asked what I wanted and I chose I nice automoto T shirt. What a guy !
Anyway, after the chat I had with Joe (countrycruising)while we were there,it was suggested that next year, someone else from the club (FCCUK) should have a go at being marshal.
Get ready guys/gals....your turn next year
Paul
