AutoItalia Brooklands meet 1st May

It's coming up to that time of year again.

Saturday 1st May is only 8 weeks away, time to start getting geared up for the first big Italian car meet of 2010 here in the south of England.

I'm THERE! Last year was fantastic, best day out I've had in years and highly recommended to anyone who has never been to "historic" Brooklands. Even my 11 year old daughter keeps asking when it is!

i'll be there as last year was a good turn out of coupes and a very good event .

Last year was the first time ive been to this and I LOVED IT! Really good day out for the money, good atmosphere and sooo many great cars. The weather was absolutely boiling, lets hope its like that again!

Turned up a bit too late to get my car in onto the stand with the rest of the bunch, this time im defo getting there early.

Is there any organised entry for FCCUK? or does everyone just to turn up at random times? (Never been to this event before!)

You just turn up, pay your entry fee, and then the guys at the gate will direct you to the coupe area

Although it's worth getting there reasonably early as it fills up pretty quickly. Two years ago I had to wait about 30mins to get in, although most of that time was spent sitting behing an F40 so I wasn't too worried

Similar to Jas and Patch, my car will be loaded with cleaning gear. What I noticed last year was that I cleaned the car and by the end of the day it was dusty so needed another wipe down before driving off

Well, I suppose you guy's will be joining the M4 at some point, so I could meet you on here (at a service station) at any point from Bristol onwards

Been seriously looking forward to this as it was such a good day out last year esp with amazing weather that day.

Insy - I'm joining from junction 4 M25 so could join up from there or at Clackets Lane service station - but depending on timing as aim to get there fairly early.

Does it matter if your Coupe isn't exactly concours? I'd like to come along and be part of the display.

not at all hammy every fiat coupe is welcome but it would be nice to beat the amount of coupe's that we had last year , i think there was about 50-55 coupes .

Auto Italia’s Spring Italian Car Day set new attendance records at historic Brooklands last year. The event’s success highlighted the need for a number of improvements for visitors. For 2010 Brooklands has agreed to establish a pre-booking service for displaying cars entering the site. Even better news is that they have also appointed new caterers!

To streamline entry to the museum and to avoid congestion at the Brooklands Road entrance, we strongly recommend the pre-booking service for displaying Italian cars. To avoid disappointment and to ensure that your Italian car is part of the display please book through www.brooklandsmuseumshop.com. The last date for advance ticket purchase is April 16th.

Late arrivals and all non-Italian cars will be directed to the public parking area at The Heights off Wellington Way.

That way we can escort Princess and keep her safe from those other nasty road users.

(We say that to keep Lashes happy - really, we're shielding the other road users from that gawd-awful interior!)

Give us a couple of days. Mario is going to speak to someone about group bookings and see if it is any cheaper if we do X amount of tickets.

I'm interested in coming (what better way to spend the girlfriend's birthday weekend ).

What's involved in the hill climb? My Coupe is my daily driver so as much as I'd like to do one I stay away from track days etc.

About 150 metres up a steep hill from a standing start.
It is not timed, as there is very limited stopping space at the top.

The cars taking part generally range from pre-war through old Fiat 500s to Italian exoticars.

I raised over four hundred quid for the Air Ambulance last year by being sponsored to drag the old girl's backside up that hill (so I used the coupe to avoid abrasion to Anita's bum!).

If anyone's thinking of something similar...?

Buy them on line, it is already a saving of £2.00 against on the gate prices and there is no extra work for club volunteers getting them to you.

edit You only have until the 16 April to buy them on line too.

As Pete stated above we are unable to secure a club discount this year so its best to buy direct and take advantage of the small saving or pay on the door.

As for the Hill Climbs,

There are going to be two sessions AM and PM we have been allocated three slots in each so that’s a total of 6 places.

We have decided that this should be exclusively for Club members only. I will shortly start a new thread where you can sign up for this. I imagine we will get a lot more than 6 people wanting to take part, if this is the case we will come up with a fair way of deciding.

I'm orpington so will be joining M25 from junction 4. Happy to meet up say at Clackets Lane M25 service station half hour or so before it opens. Insy's thinking of doing similarly. Need to know opening time to judge what the best time to meet will be. Currently thinking to be at Clackets at around 9.30 - 9.40?

Claketts Lane is the service station on M25 between jncts 5&6. For anyone travelling this way then it looks like meeting there around 9am to leave shortly afterward might be a good plan.

i think we are meet Barnacle at Junction 8 at a tesco's car park!

There are a few options, and I've suggested the Sainsbury's car park just behind my house, but that's only because I'm lazy.

It's just off J8, follow the dual carriageway across a couple of roundabouts and turn left. Watch for the speed cameras - 40mph. There's a Tescos, a Mickey Ds, and a cinema car park (the one with all the trees in the photo) - that last is probably empty at that time of a morning.

Alternative is the Toddington motorway services north of J11, but that's a ten mile each way detour for me and for anyone coming off the M25. I prefer the cinema park.

Marco, the only one of the group who's actually been to the Sainsbury's park is Lashes. It's not difficult if you're coming from the north (exit J9 and keep following the signs) but it's a bit complicated coming from the south or M25. The cinema place is easy, can't miss it, and drops straight onto the A41/M25. And as an added bonus, it goes past the hand car wash at the magic roundabout!

...... I rest my case!

Meeting at the Cinema car park will be fine for me....I will get on the M1 at J13 so i'll be driving past anyway

scratch that....i'll go straight to Hemel on the A4146 and meet you in whichever car park you decide on.

So, would of been 55.

And mine was having the rebuild at the time and was in a garage in bits, so that was another one missing.

You will be allowed in, you will be directed to the coupe area by Brooklands staff, no need to do anything else.

Likewise your mate will be directed somewhere that has been allocated for Stilos.

Thanks guys, I am not sure weather to clean the car before or do it at the show? My car is far from mint but does clean up pretty well,my engine bay and wheels should look pretty good and if I get time to do them my fuel cap and mirrors!! I am slowly getting the car up to my standard lol.

Which ever is easiest for you, otherwise I was going to try and time it so I tagged on the end of the Clacket Lane convoy, I agree on the time though, otherwise we'll just be sitting in a que to get in. Hopefully Pondman will be able to make it as well. Keep me posted on which route you're taking.

You will be directed to the coupe area by marshalls on site as you come in. The only problem is that if you leave it too late, the queue will be long and the coupe area may have filled up.

No problems, we will probably aim to get there bang on opening anyway.

Yeah, you can pay on the door. Just means you need to join the queue at the front with the others, rather than the fast entrance through the mercedes bit - you can't buy tickets there.

Only an issue if you're going as a convoy, where you'd have to split up.

Got my tickets today! Is anyone meeting up anywhere around the M40/M25 area, Beaconsfield services is massive (and 5 minutes drive from me!) if anyone from this area fancies meeting up.

Hmmm I live 5 mins from Brooklands and have a 20VT LE so I really should go to this....trouble is my car is in a right state, lacquer peeling, 100000000 stone chips, 87 different shades of red.......sorting it this June.

Called last Fri to book tickets and i'd missed the cut off day by one day!

if your paying at the gate you will get stuck in a queue but if your there for around 9.30 you will get to park with the rest of the fccuk coupes as the carpark didn't get full untill about 11.30 . if you arrive after 12.00 you will have no hope and have to park in the main carpark .

I'll get there at 6am lol! Well saying that if we're in convoy with others we should get there around the same time?

Has anyone that went last year got any tips for those that haven't been before?

Coupe passed MOT today. Washed and polished (and now covered in rain drops). Got ticket for Sat so please add me to the list!! Its my first time so really looking forward to it.

Get there early and take food & drink with you if possible as the on-site catering last year wasn't up to much and the queues were silly at times (I know they say they've changed caterers but that's by no means a guarantee of an improvement!)

Oh, and if you want to look inside Concorde it costs extra (£4 ish per adult).

And the concrete banking is MUCH steeper from the top looking back down than it appears from the bottom

I would also recommend taking a look around the old planes, most of the old fellas (Think Stan does it part time) will show you around and the kids love sitting in the cockpit.

Not sure if the club bar-be will be deployed due to the weather?

I haven't bought a hill climb ticket, if I fancy it can I get one on the day? Hope you don't have to park on handbrake at the top, I may go faster backwards

After spending a couple of hours polishing etc yesterday not only did it rain but f**king birds used it as a toilet overnight!! All clean again now though !

Just back from Brooklands. WOW You don't get car shows like that in Ireland! What a brilliant day.

I didn't even know this was on. I was just visiting my sister over in Ashford and I saw an ad in a magazine and checked online to find that I'm only 1/2 away. £5.60 train fare and zip, I was there!

Nice to meet you Pete and Bob! And it was great to see so many coupés in one place. The most I've ever seen together is 6 or 7 cars, not the 63 cars that were there today!

Never seen an F40 in the flesh until today where I saw 3 and watched one being started up

Nice 288GTO, loverly Iso's and Monteverdis. Loved the Integrales of course and the Alfas. Great stuff.

One of the best bits was after the show was over, standing at the junction of the Brooklands entrance and the Main Road. There were queues of exotica flooring it in 1st gear as they pulled out into the road. The 458 Italia sounded awesome as did the 3 F355's. Nice V6 roars from the various GTA's that left. The sprint blue Maserati Ghibli/Bi-turbo and the Black one made a good note too. Those Integrales can fairly move it too!

I'll be back next year, perhaps with my coupé!!

And for all of those watching the queue at the out gate... yes, I did go home on a trailer.

Sadly, leaving the event, an injector failed on the 20vt. Not wanting to risk melting the engine by running the engine lean, I took the Green Flag option.

To the great amusement of the neighbours, who had been complaining that they hadn't seen me come home on a trailer for a while...

Well another good day at Brooklands with some great cars and an excellent turn out of Coupes. Shame I couldn't park with the gang but was only just across the grass , this will teach me not to stop for a coffee en route.

Found a few Coupe gems hidden away as well with the other clubs, maybe we need a bigger plot next year so we can all squeeze in. I'd say numbers with the other clubs were well down so I think we did well.
Great to chat to those I spoke to and some excellent spirited hillclimbing from Phil, Joe and all the others.

Not sure of car of the day overall as so many nice bits of Italiania. Got to say though I thought that Focus RS green Coupe looked the business

Anyway hope everyone had a good drive back, see you next year.

right... So you have never been there and you KNOW that the hill is a piddly 200m straight....

Hmmm I don't think so, the hill climb has quite a gradiant to it and tests alot of cars to breaking point.
I don't think it's a good idea to comment on it untill you have given it a go and seen it for your self!

The hill was designed for testing acceleration and braking. Not designed to be a race track as say Shelsley Walsh.

Also, as cars drive up it, and 'it' is a hill, actually, it IS a 'hill climb' in the true sense of the word

Wow...what a good day...amazing never been to a show like that. Can't believe how many Ferrari's and Lambo's there were there to lust over...Anyone like to guess the total value of all the car's there that day? Saw one old Ferrari worth a cool 450,000!!!

Wow, what an awesome day, really wish i'd had more time to meet everyone and have a chat but there was just so much to see. Highlight was tagging on the back end of 4 lambos having a blast down the A3 on the way home. Got loads of pics but its going to take a while to sort through and upload them.

It was really nice to get to meet a few of you. I felt quite proud to own a Coupe watching the hillclimb in the afternoon.

I had a wicked day!! I was in hevan with all the coupes that was there! And all the other fantastic cars!

Thankyou to the guys that made me feel welcome ie joe,a guy with a green jumper and his zender porto blue coupe and his friend! and a few other people that spoke to me through out the day thanks guys!!

I was the one with the wine red coupe with the polished engine bay for those who don't know who i am.

Great day out for a tenner, sooooo many good cars, lots of nice coupes too!

Good to put some faces to names, met quite a few friendly people from the coupe gang.

I got there at 10, half 10, next time it will be 9am sharp, time went so quickly, would of like to of met a few more coupe owners off the forum.

Got myself a clay bar kit and some dodo wax, with some advice and tips off Phil. Cheers, good man.

It was great. Weather didnt really impact it.

Think I spent all day chatting, mostly to coupe
owners and a couple of lambo owners.
The red lambo coutach 5000 was bought for 50k 5 years ago and is currently worth around 85k.

We spotted a red supercharged Fiat 500, see pics.
(Have tried to keep image size down)

Yeah, had various chats about it during the day, but never saw it's owner. Bit like marmite, either love it or hate it, I liked it

Have to confess to being a little uninterested in most things Coupé thus far this year I almost didn't even bother going to Brooklands, it was only the fact that I had taken the day off work that made me decide to go. That said Meeting up with old and new Coupé folks did go a little way to getting me interested again. Thanks ALL

I do have photo's of everyone on the hill climb, but my internet is limited to work at the moment (still awaiting a phone line to be connected up) so my pictures will be up in a months time or so. Count i made it in the end was 67, we had 58 on the coupe area, was told there was another 8 dotted around brooklands and i clocked a red 20vt parked out in the normal car park

Thought I might have cooked the clutch on the 1st run as the smell was pretty overpowering. Too much adrenaline going on and diddn't want to look a knob by stalling it. Seriously good fun. Some excellent pics been posted so thanks to all for these.
