Essex Meet IV- 13th June

After a nice long drive down to Bradwell Power Station the other day, I've decided this will be the destination of the next meet's drive From the Halfway House, this is a great stretch of roads (for Essex) with alots of good photo/ filming opportunities near the power station. Here's one I snapped while I was there last week for a taster...



A coop without as many dings and faded paint would look very nice here

There are also lots of parking spots at the side of the roads leading up to here you could catch some great video of a convoy from. I'm going to get in contact with a mate of mine who works with a filming company (They do X factor and did the first few series of New Top Gear). He reckons he can get hold of some filming gear and could certainly do some decent editing.

Here's the route. Essex Meet IV drive

I think the format should run something like this;

• Meet at the Halfway House at midday 12:00
• Get some lunch in there if required
• Leave for Petrol at 13:00 (I'd suggest everyone filling up)
• Leave in convoy for Bradwell Power Station
• Meet at first filming spot (approx 14:15)
• go from there

The roads on the way to Burnham are really good aswell, go down that way on my bike.

This is what we need Dan, feedback on good routes for subsequent meets. Compared to Wales, we're pretty lacking for good roads around here, but we can still string together a few to put a decent enough route together

Diddy, does Morrisons Erith work for you or would you prefer the services just north of the Dartford tunnel? If you can come to the Morrisons there is a nice dual carriageway stretch with RBs leading up to the M25?

lol Amazing mate. even when your driving slow the feeling inside you get just because you know you can blow pretty much everything away including motorbikes. on full acceleration the passenger cant sit forward to save their life through the 1st and 2nd gears and barely lift your arms forward 200mph no problems

I'm just thinking, it'll probably be best if everyone fills up before the rendevous at the Halfway House. If we try to get petrol in convoy we're going to end up clogging up a petrol station at best, or getting split up at worst. Brimmed tanks at the pub please, cars running on fumes will end up being a real pain in Bradwell...

I'm going to try to pull this thread together in the morning so that we're all clear.

Just a few points for now;

• The Kent crowd will have to organise their own convoy on the way to the Halfway House. Just ensure you get there for 12, so you'll need to work out how long you need.
• I'd expect us to arrive at the Power Station at around 2pm.

There's not a great deal of point me meeting anyone in Erith Tolga as that's off the motorway for me. Do u want to meet at Thurrock services in big car park instead at say 11.30?

Also Chef as you live down the road if you want to drive down with me, just give me a call and we'll meet and head down together.

Now I have the new car I was referring to I have put the post in the 'other cars' section on here. I am happy to bring it along to act as a pace car for the next Essex meet... My gf will drive the coupe so we aren't one short.

I thought the meet went rather well

We loosely managed to stick to the schedule, leaving the pub a little after 1 after filling up (chicken and bacon stick

Only one person needed fuel *ahem AudioGuy* but that was pretty painless now that we have a Shell garage on the route . Unfortunately we still managed to lose two cars after leaving the pub. I'm still not sure how that happened as we waited in convoy in the car park for a few mins before heading off.

Seven of nine cars made it to Latchingdon OK, but one of those '16v' jobs apparently couldn't keep the pace. Poor Diddy got lost and needed us 20v boys to wait for him to catch up. 16v vs 20v aside, that thing makes one hell of a noise, easily matching some of the 20vs; a very characterful, throaty burble that certainly opened my eyes. Not all 4 pots are 'ridden' Shabs

I'm not sutre who the other car was (a Sprinty I think it was said) but hope you come to the next one. It's difficult to get everyone on board when trying to get everyone moving at the same time

When Diddy eventally caught up, he also brought the rain... Next we got onto the decent roads and all had a good blast, Joe's exterior mounted camera taking some decent rearward facing video of the convoy. Some of the slower bends looked very impressive Joe also had the shoulder job pointing out of the back so we got plenty of footage of Diddy's coop as well as the rest of the group including one fy-by which should be pretty impressive. We even outran the rain leading to lovely sunny skies!

I think the site was a good choice enabling us plenty of room to maneouvre (as well as a measure of privacy) for some nice shots and footage. I say 'measure' because the security at the Power Station seemed to be getting shirty with the 'exhaust comparison' feature you'll see later, and started watching us in hi-vis jackets from a distance. I'd hoped that the area around a Power Station on a Sunday afternoon would be discreet enough to not cause any disturbance. Not wanting to get anyone's back up, we decided to make a move, planning a little drive by feature on a particular bend we'd passed earlier. Again, this will be in the final video, although most people seemed to miss the point. You were supposed to pass one after the other so Joe could record each car on the pass. Instead we had a whole heap, but at least the noise was good

That was it for me as I had to go back to get Joe and the convoy moved on. We got little more footage before finding some patchy showers meaning the camera gear went back into the car.

Where shall we go next, any suggestions?

Oh, one final thing. My arms have been aching like hell all day today. I wondered what might be causing it and so did a few searches, adding in 'pollen' after it occured to me that there was a LOT of it on the cars when we got to the Power Station. Apparently it's a sign of hay-fever, something my optician told me I may have a mild case of after seeing inflammation of my eye lids. I learned someting new today!

Some great roads heading up to great dunmow and thaxsted...

Fantastic write up Trappy, what a great trip it was too and I'm gagging to see some of the footage as I've never pushed my car that hard in some of those bends and the camera was on me. A small bit of poo was coming out.

Oh and the 16v lacking in performance...not reeeeally. It was the fact I went totally the wrong way around the roundabout and got stuck when you all left and got a tad lost but found the way in the end thankfully. Good old sat nav!

Appreciate the kind comments regarding the noise and keeping pace though, a couple of the 20vs I felt I could have passed too with the silly torque figure the old 16's got it was fun!

The pollen has coated my car and I've still yet to get it all off after closer inspection but it was still well worth it. On that corner shot I dropped the car into first just to make things lively for the vid haha!

A cracking day out though and I'll definitely be up for another one and eagerly await the video!!!

I was the sprint blue at the back that went the wrong way at the first roundabout following DidCoop (I blame him entirely!)

I guessed we wouldn't catch the convoy up as we'd missed the turn off the A127 as well, so just went home. Disappointed to miss out on all the fun and games on the way to Bradwell, but was good to have a chat with a few of you at the Halfway House.

So the vids on now chaps, the quality isn't great and YouTube put it up in 4:3 when it was shot and exported in 16:9 but you get the general flava.

Feedback welcome for the next cut, I made it fairly 'clean' and only cut it in a few hours so can be changed if requested. Oh and please excuse the typo at the start. Wait till the end of the vid also as I added the exhaust sound section as a hidden part at the end.

Seriously I can't stand the place as a venue for a car meet. 50mph for 20 mins on the A127 and then 40/30 the rest of the way. I much prefer a meet with a decent drive in the middle and I'd like to think everyone else did at the last Essex meet.

I'm feeling the urge to do another meet though, so will have a think about where we could go.

some really bad news, R1DAN is breaking his porto blue coupe, the shell is near mint condition, its such a shame if it gets crushed
