Ok, so "we" have an issue with the AC/alternator belt tensioner.

The belt is still "on", but the tensioner pulley (the plastic part) has separated from the metal centre. Probably never been replaced. The spindle has stuck to the bolt.

It's proving difficult to remove and it looks like the way forward is to remove the AC pump (system already degassed ages ago).

Can somebody please confirm that undoing just these two nuts (+ancillary pipework) are all that's needed to take it off?

In fact I’m sure I’m right as the metal water pipe bolts on to the part you need to remove as well as those 2 top bolts

All 13mm if memory serves smile

Yes, there are 2 more bolts at the bottom that also secure the metal coolant pipe bracket.

Also be aware of the long screw that goes down to the aircon belt tensioner.

And if you remove the compressor completely try to keep it upright and cover the exposed input/output points as well as the open ends of the pipes.

Cheers chaps - remains to be seen whether it can be swung out of the way or will have to come off completely...

Yes, 4 bolts and for the bottom coolant pipe it can be particularly difficult to reach one of the two 10mm nuts. The compressor can be swung out of the way but make sure to support it. Also wortwhile to disconnect the battery sine you'll be swinging spanners close to the back of the alternator.

My air con doesn't work and I was just going to remove the system as the car is mainly for track days anyway. Does anyone know how best to deal with the revised ancillary belt run? Do I need to replace the alternator and mount for the non-a/c version?

I removed mine and kept the same Alternater. I use a Conti teck short belt .
number
4PK 611

I then use a pinch bar to hold the alternater under tension a tighten up the nut and bolts.
All good.
