Hi and welcome

I think you will find this very useful when looking for your first coupe: buyers guide

Also, check the clutch and the turbo are in good working order on that red one, as it's been modified. maybe ask the owner to get a compression test done as well for peace of mind, any garage will do it for a tenner and should confirm that the engine is in good health. \:\)

Hi Sam,

Take a look at the Coupes for sale section here.

The one in the link looks clean enough, but is top dollar. Also, I'm not sure a 2001 car on a Y reg should have the black sills. I thought they were colour-coded from about '99.

Last edited by simonj; 01/08/2008 13:34. Reason: P'raps it was an import at some stage?

Hi there,

I'm guessing you took my advice! Don't worry, my first ever post was moved, these mods are damn sharp!

I'm sure in no time you'll get some help.

Can anyone shed some light on this coupe?

Dave

EDIT:- I would also maybe post this in the 'Wanted' section of the Forum, should get a bit mmore exposure.

I thought that, think this car needs more investigating, should it also have a 6 speed box as standard? not that is says it doesn't.....

the owner is registered on this forum, but hasn't posted since april

5 speed box appears to be genuine - I've just read all his posts and when he bought it, the HPI said 5-speed

Seems like a car that stood around at the dealers for a while before it was sold

I'd be more concerned about the mods than the black sills to be honest \:D

Having said that from the photos it looks in pretty good nick, and if the mileage is genuine I'd say that its being sold at pretty good price. Certainly not overpriced.

The car has a supersrint exhaust gtech 1 remap and drilled air box ! does anybody have any idea what bhp this should be running?

the mods have only been on the car over the last 2000 miles as well which is all the current owner has done !

thanks sam

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure but I think you should have a boost controller fitted with a gtech 1 chip and it should have been rolling roaded to check the fueling. If you don't get this checked, you can damage the engine.

My advice would be to remove the chip and put a standard one and a standard airbox back on. You only gain 30 bhp which isn't a lot when you have to scrap the car because you can't afford a new engine.

Also, have you told your insurance company that the car is modded? If not, your cover will be invalid and you are driving illegally.

Sorry to be so negative but at your age, I would guess you don't have money to burn ;\)

gotta say, and maybe im being paranoid, but if this is your first coupe, I wouldnt buy a modded one first off, and Iv never seen a 2001 5 speeder with black sills, however I am a cautious chap when it comes to buying coupes.....and Fiat were using everything they had left toward the end of coupe production. \:\)

hi guys i have spoke to the guy who am buying off and he said that the feulling has been checked too make sure its running correctly ! the reason it is a 5 speed with black sills is as i think somebody has already said it sat in the dealers without bieng registered ! i could always get it on a rolling road but i have heard this is bad for the car and not alwyas reliable on front wheel drive turbo cars due too the steep tourqe curve causing wheelspin

My we are a friendly bunch today....

Its hardly heavily modded, it has one chip, for peace of mind get it rolling roaded to check the fuelling, you say the car has been remapped, I would be suspicious of this, I imagine, but I may be wrong, it has a chip and thats it.

There is some risk with a chip, but its not like your car will blow up tomorrow (of course if it does, don't blame me ;\) ). Get it RR'd, fit a boost gauge, if not one already and fit some form of boost controller to stop any boost over 1.2 bar. Otherwise the strain on the engine could be too much.

Try and get to someone like Powerfiat or Motormech, and get a good check on the car, but its not heavily modded, as some people seem to be making out. Loads of peeps run a coupe with a chip and not everyone blows up...

As for the drilled air box and exhaust, its all just noise.

Power will be up by about 30 bhp and 30 lb's, also the gtech loses the boost limit in 1st and 2nd, so 0-60 dashes could be quicker if you can stop the wheel spin.

As for the insurance, you should tell them, as to not tell them would be illegal, however, I haven't seen you say that you haven't told them, so I won't go further on that.

As for the car itself, it could be, and probably is, a Y reg with a 5 speed, as the chances are it sat around for a year somewhere before being registered, so again I wouldn't worry.

A PRV is a manual boost controller, you whack it in, and drive hard and watch your boost gauge, if it hits 1.3, its one turn to the left on the PRV, if it hits 1.1 you can turn it to the right. Its a manual exercise, but they work OK. You don't want to go over 1.2 and maybe if the summer is really hot (yeah right) then crank it down to 1.1 \:\)

I've even modded it some more since then \:P

Absolutely fine friend, the coupe looks stunning and I'm sure it is, don't have second thought about buying it.
If the guy used super unleaded, then a fuelling check ain't so gospel but I would take the Gtec out anyway as I found the jerky low-speed running (I cruise around a lot) to be too annoying in my Gtec'd Coupe.
Gtec1 chip is a perfectly safe first stage mod, so long as you don't drive it like you stole it, eveytime you change gear ;\)
