I am now finding that the gearknob needs a replacement to match (I have a VIS with out lift up collar), can't decide on what gearknob so any advice gratefully received.

This Momo works for me click to enlarge

This Momo GTR one aslo might work (matches handbrake), anyone know whether it will fit? click to enlarge

my na has no lift up coller, most knobs will fit as long as there the type that just srew on to the shaft.

I also shortened my shaft before fitting my richbrook knob and the shorter shaft looks and feels much better.

Will take some pics an post up if you want.

The Momo one you posted should fit.

I had the shaft also shortened by 1.5" (I guess) and fitted a Sparco gear knob as shown below:

Best way to get it off is to jam a screwdriver bit underneath and hammer it off like this :-

(It will be on tight)

Here's my lovely Momo knob...

Likewise - easy enough to do.

Am i right in thinking later models have a different setup as to how the lift up collar works?

I substituted mine with a hidden collar and a screw, but would i be right in thinking on later models it can be removed without the need for this?

Nice Stag BTW - not seen you in ages; think it was the RR day at Powerstation a few years back with Jap...

Ive got a few on my photobucket; sadly I can't get on it from here (work restrictions rolleyes ) but I'll get on here later and link to it.

The way I did it was to remove the gearknob, then unhook the collar from the cable. I used one of these with a screw inserted into the side, onto which i hooked the lift cable.

Then covered the whole thing with a black plastic bag (a courier bag if i remember rightly) and replaced the gaiter over the top.

Then, fit whichever gearknob takes your fancy...

It does mean your lift up is permeantly in the 'up' position, but so long as you don't pop it into 6th gear (ie reverse) at any speed you should be OK (mines been like it for 4 years and it's never caused me any problems)

When I had mine removed from my old steely, (by FCSS) it was sawn off - cut in half and peeled back, it would not budge with a bloody big hammer for love or money!

At the moment my Coupe Social Life is in a state of limbo; every weekend i have I'm trying to get my house finished rolleyes

Alas I won't be along to Cosford on the 18th, but once the bathroom is finished, I'm hoping to get some weekends back.
Still need to clay bar the wagon and get the touch up pen out for its Winter scars irked

So I do intend to make it along to something, sometime before December....(seriously I hope so, December is a whole off yet!) yes

I pulled my gear knob off the other day with the intention of removing the lift up reverse. Mine has (had) a plastic sleeve with a lip on the bottom that prevented changing into reverse without lifting it. Simple really, but after removing the 'lip' it quickly became apparent that 5th gear was no longer top right, instead it is top right, and then back a bit as follows:

Code:

1 3 5
| | |
------
| | |
2 4 R

Not happy with this, I've bought another sleeve from a forum member and I'm hoping to modify it to support my Richbrook Turing Plus and keep the lift up reverse. Should find out at the weekend if it arrives...

F****** b****** thing...
