Any recommendations for a good self-learn guitar book suitable for a soon to be 10 year old?

MicroWishy has an acoustic that was bequeathed to us a while back and Santa is going to get a book to for her to teach herself. I thought this would be a very easy trawl on Amazon but it seems hard to gauge what would be age suitable hence this post. Any recommendations? If there is something that would also be helpful for an adult with no musical talent that would also be useful (I may have had too much to drink on Friday night and declared that I would also learn to play).

Up yours Photobucket.

To add some context, she has played violin with school for a couple of years and can read music to some extent already. I on the other hand, am completely clueless as I haven't read music since school (I am however the secondary concern in all of this).

I Sort of try to play guitar but never had the time
I think it’s more about what they would understand best as in what would suit their wavelength
I found a book which was called somethink like highway to guitar learning I will have a look and see if I can get a definite name, but it’s more I found it easier to understand than other books not nesssasarily that it was a better book
Songs they like, will always be a good way to instil dedication

The learning or physical part is just about sticking at it as it is painfull on an acoustic until the fingers harden up

Another good book is not so much for learning but for songs is called something like the 3 chord song book great songs in there and easy once you have learnt the common chords
There are always lessons!
Best of luck!

I hate to say this but my son picked up a guitar last January and is now IMHO not bad at all.

He used the dreaded 'You Tube' with not a book in sight

Thanks for the ideas.

I hadn't though of YouTube, that's a not a bad idea as it would whet her appetite for that particular website whilst simultaneously avoiding the drivel that she normally uses it to watch.

Lessons would be a possible next step, I was just going to start with a book to see if there is any interest there at all (the guitar was free) first. I suppose I should probably add a sodding One Direction songbook as well!

Where did you find that video of me sometime in the near future? laugh

Definitely YouTube - I’ve learned a fair bit of new stuff after 35 years (and quite a few books) by using YouTube.
