C’mon Chris - say what you mean..... I don’t see the point in the birthday threads, but I’m not particularly bothered about their presence As Chris says, I just leave my date of birth out of my profile, so I don’t get my own thread However, I reckon the biggest benefit to dropping them is that it means Theresa doesn’t have to check the forum database every morning at silly o’clock, then check whether anyone with a birthday is active enough to warrant a thread and then post one or more threads expressing birthday greetings to people I’m pretty sure Theresa and the other Admins have got far better things to do.....

Also, people seem to think that these birthday threads are taking priority over 'real' issues on the forum.
What! It's the club saying Happy Birthday to some fading old f 'er, where's the harm, and exactly how much time does that take up to type two words and a few smilies

I don't mind the birthday threads and as C2D says the inconvenienced members can simply delete their birth details from their profile. The threads I found out of place concerned names I'd never heard of and who might not have posted much at all. I would miss Barnacle's birthday for example as it's always interesting to see how close he is to receiving the Queen's telegram

Please don't stop the Birthday threads.
It's the only Birthday recognition I get!

Now I know why I did not receive the usual Birthday greeting from Theresa last Wednesday, and as magooagain wrote, it is one of the few that I also receive. Happy Birthday Possum from Up Over!

Hey T! I think it is a nice general Human thing to do and I've met you and you're real and human. This is almost as bad as when I am now. I've been given shit for sending "Blue Landy X9X92XX your lights are on" emails and since some of the vehicles are operational and unmarked its not just some one being able to get home. This is a place full of (cynical) old friends or should be and if that's going to be ending we might as well give up now As a member I'm for Birthdays Lets keep them.

Just a thought but is there any way to script this?
As far as my own thoughts are, as mentioned above, if anyone doesn't want their birthday mentioned then don't put it in your details but I appreciate that generating the threads is a bind for this to be done manually. I don't get the valuable forum space aspect (but see below), if there's a thread wishing happy birthday to someone you've never heard of then don't open it.
If this was possible to be scripted then no-one (for this read T) would have to check every day and I appreciate that would be arduous for little return most of the time. If scripting was an option then possibly including "has posted within the last year" could be an option.
Also as mentioned above by others, it still makes me feel part of this community even though this year means that I have now not had a coupe for longer than I had one (or two) for the first time.
Up yours Photobucket.
