The bus driver did really well not to panic, but was pretty fortunate to get away with not being able to stop? As was the man with the camcorder!!!

Yes, fair point, but the "obstacle" decided to present itself with just a few seconds to go, what on earth was that car ahead doing? Given the road conditions, perhaps the bus driver had started to skid or knew the bus wouldn't stop in time, so released the brakes (or didn't brake) and carried on, steering around the problem.
But even then, given the conditions, I wondered if the bus was going too fast? The video clip is 18 seconds, the bus headlights become clearly visible at 3s. If the bus was doing 30mph, that's 13.33 m/s, so from in 15s would have done 200m. It looks more than that IMHO, perhaps 300m (ie: 45mph) or even 400m (60mph)...it's hard to tell precisley...
Whatever, there were probably at least 3 pairs of soiled underpants afterwards (assuming the "obstacle" driver was even paying attention?)

Really, in my opinion if you cant stop for an obstacle in the road, regardless of conditions, you are going way way to fast. That bus had the best part of 10 seconds to slow the hell down. It was very lucky he swing it around in time and didnt kill the idiot in the car who ended up on the wrong side of the road. The bus was on an uphill stretch and the driver would have calculated what speed he needed to achieve in order to make the top. Yes, I was always taught there's a fool round every corner, but this car driver action's were sudden and unpredictable, at first making as if to clear the carriageway by mounting the kerb at right-angles but then changed his/her mind by straightening up thereby effectively blocking it. The driver of the bus, which is fitted with really efficient air brakes but also inclined to snatch and lock at a moment's notice, realised that a quick application wasn't going to be applicable so he used slick steering technique instead, banking on the rear end slewing out in a delayed way but also controlling the ensuing realignment. Light front ends + power steering make these a devil to drive in such conditions and I wouldn't be surprised if that was his/her last run as Lothian Buses pulled them off soon after. They've hardly been running since, if at all. Interesting to see how far the van driver was able to reverse....

Fair play she did very well, once she clearly quickly rationalised she was not going to stop in time.
